This study aimed to investigate the suitability of some concrete components for producing "high-performance heavy density concrete" using different types of aggregates that could enhances the shielding efficiency against ${\gamma}$-rays. 15 mixes were prepared using barite, magnetite, goethite and serpentine aggregates along with 10% silica fume, 20% fly ash and 30% blast furnace slag to total OPC content for each mix. The mixes were subjected to compressive strength at 7, 28 and 90 days. In some mixes, compressive strengths were also tested up to 90 days upon replacing sand with the fine portions of magnetite, barite and goethite. The mixes containing magnetite along with 10% SF reaches the highest compressive strength exceeding over M60 requirement by 14% after 28 days. Whereas, the compressive strength of concrete containing barite was very close to M60 and exceeds upon continuing for 90 days. Also, the compressive strength of high-performance concrete incorporating magnetite fine aggregate was significantly higher than that containing sand by 23%. On the other hand, concrete made with magnetite fine aggregate had higher physico-mechanical properties than that containing barite and goethite. High-performance concrete incorporating magnetite fine aggregate enhances the shielding efficiency against ${\gamma}$-rays.
Analysis was done on the particle size distribution of sediments flown into Saemangeum from the Mankyung and Dongjin River. The organic pollutants and heavy metal existing in the sediments were analyzed, which was further used to study the properties of pollution in the sediments according to the particle size distribution. Conclusions shown below were made from these analyses. The particle size distribution showed a big difference between the upriver areas of Mankyung and Dongjin River. Particles under $75{\mu}m$ showed to be around 85% at Dongjin River, while it showed to be around 70% at Mankyung River. This kind of distribution in particle size concluded in greatly affecting the contamination density of the sediments. From the analysis done on the soil type of sediments, deposition in Mankyung River categorized into Silty loam and Sandy loam, where Silty loam covered most of area and deposition in Dongjin River categorized into Sand, Loamy sand, Silty loam, Sandy loam. Considering the weight ratio, the density of contamination of the sediments by particle size at Dongjin and Mankyung River has been analyzed to show that organic pollutants and heavy metals occupy more than 70% of the whole contamination in the range under the particle size of $75{\mu}m$.

Shaking table tests are performed to evaluate the dynamic group pile effect in fine sand. Single pile tests and $2{\times}4$ group pile tests are performed on 3D pile spacing. Dynamic p-y backbone curves are obtained to evaluate dynamic group pile effect by using dynamic p-y curve of single pile. And dynamic group pile p-multiplier is estimated by dynamic p-y backbone curve. Dynamic p-multiplier can be calculated by using subground reaction ratio of dynamic p-y backbone curve which is the same displacement of p-y curve peak point As the result, dynamic group pile effects are evaluated in terms of a shaking frequency, a shaking acceleration, and a relative density. Dynamic group pile p-multiplier is the largest at lead pile, and the value decrease at middle pile and trail pile. p multiplier increases as increasing input acceleration and decreasing relative density. This results coincide with NCHRP's research which suggest p multiplier increases as increasing pile cap displacement.
Antibiotic activity of selected biocontrol agent Trichoderma harzianum ABGS-95 showed 59% to P. graminicola, 65% to P. aphanidermatum and 57% to Rhizoctonia solani compare to non-treated control. ABGC-95 showed resistant to major agrochemicals such as metalaxyl+mancozeb, etridiazole, propamocarb, toclofos methly, terbuconazole, pencycuron and flutolanil. The biocontrol agent T. harzianum ABGC-95 grew vigorously in low nutrient media and water agar. And sand mixture with wheat bran or mowing debris of zoysia grass also provided good growth of the organism. Application of sand mixture of Trichoderma spp. into aeration cores in golf showed most effective biocontrol of pythium blight. Top dressing application of T. harzianum ABGC-95 reached 83% control efficient while spray application of same biocontrol agent showed only 69% control. The biocontrol agent ABGC-95 successfully suppressed the population density of Pythium spp. in soil. The population density of total Pythium spp. in ABGC-95 treated soil was sustained almost same population at beginning(early May) up to end of August, while the population in untreated control plot was increased 5 times that of beginning and even 10 times in pathogen accumulated soil.
The purpose of this study was to provide basic information for judging cultivation suitability by analyzing the growing environment of Zanthoxylum schinifolium habitats in Gyeongnam-do. The site environment, soil environment and community structure were analyzed in habitats of 7 cities and counties. The habitats were distributed in slopes at 87~764 m above sea level. It was found habitats was distributed in the well-drained soil with high content of sand and soil texture of habitats was mainly loamy sand and sandy loam. Bulk density and particle density were 0.89 g/cm3 and 2.65 g/cm3 on average, respectively. The soil had 5.10 of pH, 6.41% of OM content, 0.29% of TN content, 3.84 ppm of available P content, and CEC of 12.3 cmol+/kg on average. The habitats were classified into four communities (Z. schinifolium-Lindera erythrocarpa, Castanea crenata-L. erythrocarpa, Pinus densiflora-Z. schinifolium, P. thunbergii-Z. schinifolium by clustering analysis. Ecological niche breadth was highest of 0.885 in site (T VI ongyeong) and lowest of 0.608 in site (Goseong).

Performance of a laboratory scale closed seawater recirculating aquaculture system was evaluated. Twenty-kg Korean rockfish (130 fish) with an average body weight of 153.8 g was stocked. Over 107-day culture period, fish reached final density of 51.7 kg/m$^3$ (initial density, 33.3 kg/m$^3$) on the culture tank volume basis. On a daily basis, water addition was 3.4% of the total water volume in the system. Total ammonia nitrogen (TAN)concentrations were below 1 mg/L and nitrite nitrogen (NO$_2$-N) concentrations were within the range of 1-3 mg/L on most sampling days. TAN was removedin bead and sand filters and it was removed or produced in the sedimentation basin. Basically, NO$_2$-N was removed in the bead and sand filters while it was either removed or produced in the sedimentation basin. Nitrate nitrogen (NO$_3$-N) was produced in the bead filters and removed in the sand filter and sedimentation basin. Foam fractionator performed well in the recirculating system. The maximal daily removal values for total suspended solids (TSS) and protein were 10,9 g and 1.4 g, respectively. Whole water quality parameters were within the levels commonly recommendedfor fish culture on most of the sampling days. However, further studies are needed to evaluate the commercial feasibility of this system because of the small-scale system used in present experiment. At least, present study still provides some basic information for further studies of this kind of system.
It is well known that water leakage from decrepit sewer pipe mainly causes frequent occurrence of ground subsidence in urban area. Thus, laboratory model tests were carried out to investigate ground behaviour according to location of sewer fracture and various relative densities of surrounding soil. The portion of fractured pipe was assumed to be 20% compared to the circumference of pipe, and to be positioned at the top and bottom of the pipe. Ground conditions were made as loose sand ($D_r=30%$) and dense sand ($D_r=70%$). In addition, comparison and analysis with results of model tests were carried out by Finite Element analysis. As a result, not only water leakage from the bottom of pipe (scenario 2) caused greater ground behaviour than leakage from the top of pipe (scenario 1), but also much greater surface settlement occurred when the ground condition is loose.

The purpose of this study is to analyze seasonal distribution of insects, birds, fishes, and benthos for Gongji stream in Chuncheon and to explore some strategies towards creating a desirable close-to-nature stream. The number of species occurred in the study stream was 23 for butterflies and 149 for other insects, 23 for birds, 15 for fishes, and 47 for benthos. The study stream was dominated by Artogenia rapae, Polygonia caureum, Cyntia cardui for butterflies, and Passer montanus, Anas crecca, Anas platyrhynchos for birds. The dominant species were Rhynchocypris oxycephalus, Zacco plutypus, Carassius auratus for fishes, and Limnodrilus sp. 2, Chiranumus sp. 2, Hydropsyche KUb for benthos. Attracting insect species of higher density requires planting of host plant species and stabilization of plant coverage against disturbances. To enhance species diversify and density of birds, it is desirable to provide diverse habitats including preservation of downstream wetland and natural vegetation, creation of sand bars and islands with sand and gravel, and restriction or traffic passing and parking. Restoring fish and benthos habitats needs improvement of water quality, layout of gravels and stones on sand-dominant streambed, and use of close-to-nature revetment techniques.
In this study, series of cyclic triaxial tests and shear velocity measurement were conducted using Pohang sand, which was taken from liquefaction observed area, to verify the liquefaction characteristics of Pohang. The cyclic resistance ratio(CRR) was derived based on the test results. A specimen was reconstituted into 40% and 80% relative density conditions and then a series of cyclic triaxial tests and shear-wave velocity measurement were conducted. As a result, the effect of particle distribution and relative density to liquefaction resistance was verified. The liquefaction resistance of Pohang sand was evaluated by comparing with other liquefaction resistance of sands from previous research. In addition, the liquefaction resistance curve from field observation data was used to verify the reliability of results from this study by measured shear-wave velocity.
