  • In order to compare Kimchi fermentability of Chinese cabbage cultivars, five cultivars grown in Korea were fermented in 3% NaCl. The measurements were done for both the fermenting properties: bacterial growth, $CO_2$ generation, acid production, dissolved oxygen, pH changes in the fermenting broth and extractable sugars form the cabbage tissue and salt solution, respectively. The measured values were scorized to evaluate the cultivar's fitness to Kimchi processing. The most rapid cultivar is Naeseu Baekno and the lowest one is Mussang.

  • Electrodialysis with bipolar membranes (EDBM) has recently gained increasing attention for the recovery and production of acids or bases from the corresponding salt solutions and other high value-added business like food processing and biochemical industry. EDBM possesses economical and environmental benefits and can complex with other process such as ion exchange process, extraction and adsorption. So this paper investigates a brief overview of development for bipolar membrane and EDBM with the practical application.

  • To utilize hemicellulosic biomass efficiently, the microorganism producing xylanase was isolated from fermented sawdust. It was a Gram positive, aerobic and rod shape bacterium. It had endospore and secreted strong hydrolases, such as amylase and protease. Through morphological, cultural and physiological tests, it was identified as Bacillus sp. GS. To increase the productivity of xylanase from Bacillus sp. GS, the enzyme production medium was optimized. The composition of the medium and incubation conditions were like follows xylan 1.25%, yeast extract 0.1%, NaN030.2%, K2HP04 0.1%, MgSO4 0.02%, mineral salt 0.005%, pH 6.5, incubation temperature 37$^{\circ}C$.

  • In this paper, sensor ring for antilock brake system was studied using the 400 series ferrite stainless steel powder. Because of more excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical characteristics than iron, sensor ring has been manufactured by P/M(Powder Metallurgy) method 400 series ferrite stainless steel. the results are following. 1, Compared with sensor ring made by iron, 400 series ferrite stainless steel has shown a good corrosion resistance without an addition surface treatment. thus the decreasing production process has been obtained. 2. The products before sintering are much more corrodible in the condition of spray test of salt water and ammonia than humidity and nitrogen condition.

  • Pyronaridine tetraphosphate (1) is a well-known antimalarial drug. However, it required a carefully optimized production process for the manufacture of pyronaridine tetraphosphate. Each step of its manufacturing process was reinvestigated. For the cyclization of 4-chloro-2-(6-methoxy-pyridin-3-yl-amino)-benzoic acid 6 to 7,10-dichloro-2-methoxybenzo[b]-1,5-naphthyridine 5, an improved process was developed to eliminated critical process impurity (BIA). By the redesign of the formation of triphosphate salt, the purity as API grade was increased. Thus, a robust manufacturing process with an acceptable process performance has been developed to produce high quality pyronaridine tetraphosphate.

  • Fish sauce is a liquid form of salt-fermented fish and has played an important role in Korean dietary life. Fish sauce was manufactured by utilizing Alaska pollack scrap from Himedara(seasoned and dried Alaska pollack tail) processing . In addition, the effects of squid viscera as a fermentation enhancer were also evaluate.Ph of Alaska plllack scrap sauce with squid viscera was lower than that of control over the entire fermentation process. Squid viscera acceleraged the production of amino-nitrogen, VBN , TBA and free amino acids, and the degradation of IMP and Inosine. The addition of squid viscera and koji at 5% concentration, respectively , also accelerated the digestion of Alaska pollack scrap and was similar to the results of squid viscera at 10% concentration.

  • In this thesis, using the 400 series ferrite stainless steel such as 434LD$_2$ which are furter excellent then the existing ferric products in mechanical characteristics, and experiment has been conducted on corrosion resistance of sensor ring. The results are following. 1. The products before sintering are much more corrodible in the condition of spray test of salt water and ammonia than humidity and nitrogen condition. 2. 434LD$_2$ ferrite stainless steel has shown a good corrosion resistance without an addition surface treatment. thus the decreasing production process has been obtained. 3. As hardness value of $H_{RB}$ 80 and tensile test, 434LD$_2$ ferrite stainless steel with show a good endurance when it is combined to constant velocity joint (c/v joint), and has a good hardness properties endurable to sand and pebble impact.

  • Agrobacterium-mediated genetic transformation has been widely used for the production of genetically modified transgenic plants to obtain specific desired traits. Most of the molecular mechanisms that underlie the transformation steps have been well elucidated over the years. However, a few steps, such as nuclear targeting, T-DNA integration, and Agrobacterium-plant proteins involved remain largely obscure and are still under extensive studies. This review describes the major steps involved in the molecular mechanism of Agrobacterium-mediated transformation and provides insight in the recent developments in studies on the Agrobacterium-mediated genetic transformation system. Some factors affecting the transformation efficiency are also briefly discussed.

  • The morphology and composition of anodic films, formed on aluminium at various current densities, in the range $1-100{\;}Am^{-2}$, in the molten bisulphate melt at different temperatures (418-498K), have been studied using transmission electron microscopy of ultramicrotomed film sections, and ion beam thinned films. The first sign of incipient breakdown revealed by transmission electron microscopy of stripped films, is always the appearance of dark regions about 1,000 nm in diameter, representing local overgrowth of the film. The breakdown mechanism is closely related to thermal effects, because temperature rises at regions representing local overgrowth in the stripped films were observed at voltages close to the breakdown voltage, likely arising through impact ionization.

  • In order to develop a novel yeast which produces the charateristic aroma of soy sauce, a protoplast fusion between Zygosaccharomyces rouxii WFS4 and Torulopsis versatilis IAM 4993 was carried out. Auxotrophic mutants as selective markers were obtained from Zygosaccharomyces rouxii and Torulopsis versatilis by treatment of N-methyl-N -nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine. The conditions of the protoplast formation and the regeneration for fusion were examined. The protoplast fusion using polyethylene glycol 4000 led to the fusion frequency of $4~5{\times}10^{-7}\;cells/ml$. Among fusants, a fusant ST723-F31 presented the best results in terms of the aromaticity of fragrance, the growth pattern, the resistance against salt and the degree of growth according to pH. It makes easy to control the production and the balance of aroma components so that it gives a good flavor, shortens the fermentation period and, simplifies the preparation process when using a bioreactor into which fusant is immobilized.
