  • This paper provides the evaluation method for the pressure vessel with internal wall-thinning defect, which is based on ASME design criteria. Pressure vessel has wall-thinning partially and patch reinforcement has been attached for reliable operating. However, present partial wall thinning could be through wall thinning at the next inspection time with present corrosion progress speed. Therefore safety margin was calculated for various conditions from present wall-thinning condition to additive patch reinforced condition via two-dimensional and three-dimensional, geometrically linear FE analyses using elastic materials.

  • In general, the reinforcement of a structure is performed with cylinders. In this study, it is attempted to compare the safety Circular reinforcement with 4 fins and Honey-comb at the equal mass. Circular reinforcement with 4 fins have two kind of the models One has no hole in the upper and lower plates. The other has holes, and it is divided by 3 cases. And the maximum stress is investigated for the circular reinforcement with 4 fins and Honey-comb. The results shows that honey-comb is more strength than the others. And reinforcement with 4 fins of hole case2's maximum stress is 82% by compare 10 honey-comb.

  • The present study evaluates geocell reinforced slope behavior. A three dimensional analysis is carried out to simulate soil and geocell elastoplastic behavior using the finite difference software FLAC3D. In order to investigate the geocell reinforcement effect, the geocell aperture size, thickness, geocell placement condition and soil compaction had been considered as variable parameters. Moreover, a comparison is evaluated between geocell reinforcing system and conventional planar reinforcement. The obtained results showed that the pocket size, thickness and soil compaction have considerable influence on the geocell reinforcement slope performance. Moreover, it was found that the critical sliding surface was bounded by the first geocell reinforcement and the slope stability increases, by increasing the vertical space between geocell layers. In addition, the comparison between geocell and geogrid reinforcement indicates the efficiency of using cellular honeycomb geosynthetic reinforcement.

  • In evaluating explosion-protection capacity, safety distance is broadly accepted as the distance at which detonation of a given explosive causes acceptable structural damage. Safety distance can be calculated based on structural response under blast loading and damage criteria. For the applicability of the safety distance, the minimum required stand-off distance should be given when the explosive size is assumed. However, because of the nature of structures, structural details and material characteristics differ, which requires sensitivity analysis of the safety distance. This study examines the safety-distance sensitivity from structural and material property variations. For the safety-distance calculation, a blast analysis module based on the Kingery and Bulmash formula, a structural response module based on a Single Degree of Freedom model, and damage criteria based on a support rotation angle were prepared. Sensitivity analysis was conducted for the Reinforced Concrete one-way slab with different thicknesses, reinforcement ratios, reinforcement yield strengths, and concrete compressive strengths. It was shown that slab thickness has the most significant influence on both inertial force and flexure resistance, but the compressive strength of the concrete is not relevant.

  • This paper deals with the reinforcement performance of acrylate for reinforcing the settled railway roadbed. Concrete tracks have the advantage of reducing track maintenance costs and high resistance to track destruction. However, roadbed settlement is occurring in some construction sections, and the safety of railways is a serious concern because of difficulties in maintenance. Currently, maintenance through the track restoration method is being carried out in Korea as a way of roadbed settlement in concrete tracks, but continuous re-settlement can occur because the roadbed itself cannot be reinforced, and there are very few cases of reinforcement of railway roadbeds and field application. So the development of reinforcement materials and construction methods to reinforce railway roadbeds is required. Therefore, in this paper, acrylate was selected as reinforcement material for railway roadbed, and the reinforcement performance of acrylate was analyzed through experiment. As a result, it was analyzed that the acrylate can penetrate into a permeability coefficient of 1×10-4 cm/sec, and secure uniaxial compression strength of 0.5 MPa/30min or more and stiffness of 80 MPa or more.

  • For the practical application of U-flanged Truss Hybrid beams, the flexural capacity of hybrid beams with end reinforcement details using vertical steel plates was verified. The bending test of U-flanged Truss Hybrid beams was performed using the same top chord under the compressive force, but with the thickness of the bottom plate and the amount of tensile reinforcement. The initial stiffness and maximum load of the specimen with tensile reinforcement have a higher value than that of the specimen without tension reinforcement, but the more tensile reinforcement, the greater the load decrease after the maximum load. In the case of the specimen with tensile reinforcement, because the test result value is 76% to 88% when compared with the flexural strength according to Korea Design Code, the safety of the U-flanged Truss Hybrid beam with the same details of the specimens can't ensure. Therefore, the development of new details is required to ensure that the bottom steel plate and the tensile reinforcement can undergo sufficient tensile deformation.

  • In this study, in order to investigate the effects of reinforcement length and vertical spacing on the factor of safety, the road embankment reinforced by geogrid was analyzed using RSS(Reinforced Slope Stability) program based on limit equilibrium analysis. The result by computer analysis showed that the factor of safety for reinforced slope increased with increasing length of reinforcement and with decreasing vertical spacing of reinforcement up to certain limit. Also, numerical analysis by FLAC was performed on reinforced slope to evaluate the horizontal displacement, horizontal stress, and distribution of tensile forces of reinforcements in the cases of several reinforcement length. The results of analysis showed that the critical failure mode was toe failure or slope failure and the effect by the additional reinforcement length on the slope stability was negligible under stabilized condition.

  • Current design codes regulate the minimum torsional reinforcement requirement for reinforced concrete members to prevent their brittle failure. The minimum torsional reinforcement ratio specified in the current national code and ACI318-11, however, have problems in the minimum longitudinal reinforcement ratio for torsion, the equilibrium condition in space truss model, and a marginal strength, etc. Thus, in order to overcome such shortcomings, this study presents a rational equation for minimum torsional reinforcement ratio that can provide a sufficient margin of safety in design. The minimum torsional reinforcement ratio proposed in this study was compared to the test results available in literature, and it was confirmed that it gave a proper margin of safety for all specimens studied in this paper.
