  • The advanced traffic management system of intelligent transport systems automates the related traffic tasks such as vehicle speed, traffic volume and traffic incidents through the improved infrastructures like high definition cameras, high-performance radar sensors. For the safety of road users, especially, the automated incident detection and secondary accident prevention system is required. Normally, CCTV based image object detection and radar based object detection is used in this system. In this paper, we proposed the algorithm for real time highway incident detection system using multi surveillance cameras to mosaic video and track accurately the moving object that taken from different angles by background modeling. We confirmed through experiments that the video detection can supplement the short-range shaded area and the long-range detection limit of radar. In addition, the video detection has better classification features in daytime detection excluding the bad weather condition.

  • Current removing process is labor intensive and time consuming, employing a conventional grinding type manual machine. This manual tasks trigger various dangers such as unexpected traffic accidents or explosions of propane gas used for finalizing removing process, leading to health damage and environment pollution by dusts and noxious gases. Accordingly, it is necessity for the development of new alternative equipment. In this paper, we have developed a prototype equipment for road stripe removing made up with a high-pressure water-jet system as a mobile type system. The following shows the results. First, an analysis of the current road stripe removal process showed that it can be divided into a) preparation, b) removal and c) ground finishing. It also showed that the b) removal process requires equipment which can cover the whole process. Second, the study compared between the productivity of the developed equipment and conventional methods, and it obtained 280% productivity improvement compared to the conventional equipment.

  • As military service members are fully permitted to use mobile phones for sickness after work, it is time to minimize the direct collection of personal information from telecommunication companies when opening mobile phones to secure the safety of military service personnel's personal information. Prior to introducing the use of mobile phones by soldiers after work, the Ministry of National Defense established a security control system such as blocking the mobile phone shooting function to prevent security accidents and concerns about some adverse functions such as illegal cyber gambling, game addiction, and viewing pornography. come. Mobile telecommunications companies entrust personal information processing tasks, such as opening mobile phones, to telecommunications agencies and carry out management and supervision, such as checking the status of personal information protection measures. When a military service member opens a mobile phone, a personal information management agency is newly established using the right to portability of personal information, and a system for requesting the transmission of personal information from the military service member is proposed.

  • In construction projects, the safety and productivity of machinery operations are of paramount importance. Contemporary research and industry endeavors predominantly concentrate on equipping machine operators with sensory information and establishing a comprehensive situation-aware operating environment, such as virtual reality-based machine manipulation training. However, significant limitations exist in direct information exchange and processing by on-site personnel. Notably, research on analyzing communication patterns in construction machinery operations remains scarce despite its critical role in preventing hazardous instructions/actions and enhancing machinery work efficiency. Thus, this research aims to (1) develop a novel interpreter modeling system predicated on millimeter-wave radar technology and (2) select the crane as an illustration to investigate the potential applications of this emerging communication paradigm during construction machinery operations. In this investigation, a spatial gesture signal interpreter was devised specifically for machine operators and signalers to augment the quality of communication during the execution of spatial localization tasks. Corresponding limitations that will be encountered in current communication systems were also addressed. This research uses a 60 GHz millimeter wave radar as a gesture trajectory detector, with the benefits of portability and robustness. Its millimeter-level precision enables the capture of highly accurate micro-gestures. The research constructs a novel 3D Spatial Gesture-based Trajectory Modeling system, which will be compared with traditional communication models in future research stages.

  • Cracks in structural materials present a critical challenge to infrastructure safety and long-term durability. Timely and precise crack detection is essential for proactive maintenance and the prevention of catastrophic structural failures. This study introduces an innovative approach to tackle this issue using U-Net deep learning architecture. The primary objective of the intended research is to explore the potential of U-Net in enhancing the precision and efficiency of crack detection across various concrete crack detection under various environmental conditions. Commencing with the assembling by a comprehensive dataset featuring diverse images of concrete cracks, optimizing crack visibility and facilitating feature extraction through advanced image processing techniques. A wide range of concrete crack images were collected and used advanced techniques to enhance their visibility. The U-Net model, well recognized for its proficiency in image segmentation tasks, is implemented to achieve precise segmentation and localization of concrete cracks. In terms of accuracy, our research attests to a substantial advancement in automated of 95% across all tested concrete materials, surpassing traditional manual inspection methods. The accuracy extends to detecting cracks of varying sizes, orientations, and challenging lighting conditions, underlining the systems robustness and reliability. The reliability of the proposed model is measured using performance metrics such as, precision(93%), Recall(96%), and F1-score(94%). For validation, the model was tested on a different set of data and confirmed an accuracy of 94%. The results shows that the system consistently performs well, even with different concrete types and lighting conditions. With real-time monitoring capabilities, the system ensures the prompt detection of cracks as they emerge, holding significant potential for reducing risks associated with structural damage and achieving substantial cost savings.

  • Hazard Analysis is one of the basic tasks to ensure the safety of chemical plants. However, it is an arduous, tedious, time-consuming work and requires multidisciplinary knowledge and demands considerable cognitive load from the analysts. To overcome these problems, there have been attempts to automate this work by utilizing computer technology, particularly in the area of knowledge-based technique. There is two methods in the risk assessment of Chemical plant; quantitative and qualitative risk assessment. Both of them have been applied respectively, but if the integrated method of quantitative and qualitative risk assessments is used, all of the advantage of two methods can be applied. It is difficult to carry out integrated risk management of chemical plant. Therefore, automated integration system of risk management is necessary. We developed S/W Automated System for Hazard Screening & Analysis(ASCA) and applied to practical plant. By applying ASCA to case study, we can get the information about relative ranks of equipments, variable deviation, and consequence of potential accident. In this study, we applied ASCA to the H.T.U(Hydrotreating Unit) of the process to produce aromatic material. We could know relative ranks of equipments, variable deviation of malfunction in storage tank, D-101, and consequence of potential accident using ASCA. If integrated risk management in the chemical plant is applied, we can develop the emergency plan and prevent the accident.

  • Simulator is composed of several devices that have a variety of forms and functions. These devices are connected to each other by a network intricately. For this reason, simulator development and maintenance process require a lot of time and money. In order to successfully develop the simulator, it is ideal that related professionals share the work and work together in parallel. However, development is carried out inefficiently, because task interdependence makes it difficult to work in parallel. In this paper, the developments of the simulator were classified into algorithm development and system development, and it was discussed how to lower the interdependence of these two tasks and support professionals. In particular, based on the requirements analysis of the domain experts responsible for the development of the algorithm, we designed the support tool for simulator development and proposed development process using this tool. We also introduced the concept of a DataSet in order to support algorithm development of domain experts and manage data flexibly. And we designed network architecture to enable flexible reconfiguration of simulator equipment. By using the tools to support the simulator development, domain experts are able to concentrate on algorithm development and it is expected to be effective collaboration. In addition, the development plan and management are expected to be easy because the development process is systematic and clearer.

  • Purpose:The purpose of the paper is to review the problems of performance enhancement of safety certification standards and to suggest directions for improvement in order to rationalize safety certification standards for future industrial development and environmental changes. Method: The problems and limitations of the safety certification system are summarized through literature review and interview with manager, and the status of safety certification standards is classified into design standards, performance standards, and detailed standards, and the status analysis is performed. In addition, by synthesizing the results of the investigation and analysis, improvements are suggested to improve the performance of the safety certification standards. Result: Through the survey, the problems and limitations of safety certification could be grouped into six categories: government-led certification system operation, standardized certification standards, long time required to improve certification, poor certification standards preparation system, and lack of reflection of industry opinions. And, as a result of analyzing the certification standards by dividing them into performance and design standards, in the case of machinery, equipment, and protection devices, the design standards were high at 69.7% and 64.9%, whereas in the case of protective equipment, the performance standards were high at 61.1%. In order to improve the performance of safety certification standards centered on design standards, it is necessary to determine the possibility of performance enhancement of the certification standards and determine the feasibility of the inspection test method. In order to improve performance, it was reviewed that it was necessary to establish a systemic foundation and infrastructure, such as strengthening the Product Liability Act, systematizing market monitoring, etc., distributing certification test tasks, and participating in the preparation of certification standards by the private sector. Conclusion: Through this study, the problems and limitations of Korea's safety certification system were summarized and the necessity for performance improvement was reviewed. Performance improvement of safety certification standards is a matter that requires preparatory work, such as legislative revision and infrastructure construction, and requires mid-to-long-term promotion. In addition, rather than improving the overall safety certification standards, the performance requirements for each item subject to certification should be reviewed and promoted, and details should be specified through additional research.

  • Recently, the interest on applying AVM(Around View Monitoring) systems in construction equipments have been increasing due to the demand for better control, work efficiency and safety. Most of the existing AVM systems have been developed focusing on the application in automobiles and only several AVM systems have been developed for construction equipments. However, the original technology of AVM remained the same as in the automobiles that failed to consider the main properties of construction equipments and suggest appropriate range of AVM display (Top-view). Therefore, the purpose of this study is to suggest a pilot type of AVM system for construction equipment. Accordingly, literature review, deduction of main consideration factors, selection of sensors, system design, algorithm development of a pilot type of AVM system for construction equipment have been conducted. A laboratory experiment has also been conducted for the deduction of further improvements. As a result, a minimum image refresh rate of 20 fps has been achieved that clearly reflects the actual situation of the equipment and also, the actual motions of Boom, Arm, Bucket have been displayed appropriately on the AVM system based on the angle data collected by sensors. However, the experiment results have also shown that the following tasks still remain for future work: 1)Improvement of AVM image interpolation, 2)Development of calibration module for variety construction equipment.

  • A forklift is an industrial vehicle with a power-operated fork for lifting and moving heavy loads over short distances. A significant number of accidents are caused by forklifts every year. Most of them are known to be caused by the unsafe acts of workers. However, only a few studies have focused on the risks of forklift work from the perspective of human error. In addition, various methods have been developed to analyze the risk of human error, while it is hard to find studies that directly compare the effectiveness or strengths/weaknesses of those methods. This study aims to analyze risk factors related to unsafe behavior in forklift operations using two representative human error analysis techniques, i.e., .SHERPA and HE-HAZOP, and compare their advantages and disadvantages. The analysis was performed on three main forklift operations ('unloading from the truck', 'moving and loading into the storage', and 'loading on the truck'). As a result, 118 errors and 34 remedial measures were derived by SHERPA. Through HAZOP, 139 errors and 54 measures were derived. The two techniques were compared in terms of the number of results and the method of deriving errors and remedial measures, cause analysis, and risk assessment. This study might be used to reduce human error related disasters in workplaces using forklifts. In order to provide a guide for choosing an appropriate analysis method, more comparative studies on different techniques involving wide range of tasks are needed in the future.
