  • A two-axis gimbal-type antenna for a Compact Advanced Satellite (CAS) is used to efficiently transmit high resolution image data to a ground station. In this study, we designed the structure of a two-axis gimbal-type antenna while applying a launch lock device to secure its structural safety under a launch environment. To validate the effectiveness of the structural design, a structural analysis of the antenna was performed. First, a modal analysis was performed to investigate the dynamic responses of the antenna with and without the mechanical constraints of the launch lock device. In addition, a quasi-static analysis was performed to confirm the structural safety of the antenna structure and bolt I/Fs between the antenna base and the satellite. The suitable range of constraint force on the launch lock device was also determined to ensure the structural safety and mechanical gapping of the ball & socket interfaces, which places multi-constraints on the azimuth and elevation stage of the antenna.

Methods: In this study, EPLD(Electrically Programmable Logic Device) control and time sharing method to the safety device actuator motor and discrete signal processor in launch control panel were used to resolve unusual performance of safety system. Results: The result of this study are as follows; First, sporadic stopping of safety device actuator motor due to insufficient In-Rush current was resolved. Second, repeat of safety device condition as lock & release due to chattering for motor activating was resolved. Third, simultaneous release function for safety device actuator was available. Conclusion: The unusual performance of function for submarine TACM launcher system was overcame by applying EPLD control and time sharing method. The suggestions were proved by performance test in the pressure chamber. The results of this study enhanced survivability of ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ class submarine from enemy torpedo.

  • This paper presents the evaluation of LPG (Liquefied petroleum gas) regulators for home use. For the evaluation, several properties of the regulators were experimentally analyzed, such as the operation of safety device, the adjusting and lock-up pressure, the adjusting spring and the diaphragm, with respect to the used time of the regulators. Experimental results showed that the initial operation performance of regulators were degraded with increase of the service time and also showed that the degradation of the performance and material property could become serious after six-year-use of the regulator.

  • Recently, digital door locks have been widely used as physical security devices for the door. Although they are convenient compared to the existing lock system, they have the problem of being opened by an electric shock. In this study, to improve safety, a method to hide the door-lock device inside and to display the door-lock on a user's smart-phone screen through the augmented reality is suggested. Furthermore, an additional function has been added which provides memo notes to facilitate communication among family members. The results of this study have been implemented by using motors to control locks, Wi-Fi shield, Arduino, and a virtually created door and showed desirable experimental results.

  • The locking performance of a multi-plate clutch with a mechanical lock-up system is governed by the engagement algorithm. In this paper, a control algorithm to improve the locking performance of the clutch was studied. A 1D dynamic model was constructed and simulated according to the developed algorithm. The developed algorithm was composed of a method in which the locking device is engaged while generating artificial slip on the friction plate by controlling the piston pressure of the clutch. Furthermore, a case study of the parameters within the developed algorithm was conducted to explore combinations that maximize locking performance and analyze trends according to these parameters.

  • The design of a 7 degree of freedom motion capture device(MCD) has been presented. The newly designed MCD overcomes the shortcomings of the existing CADEN-7 exoskeleton robot by implementing various ergonomic design. To improve ease of operation, light-weight high-strength materials such as carbon pipes and engineering plastics were used to reduce weight of the MCD and arm-length adjustment mechanism was also added. The MCD showed consistent measurement results in designed experiments involving change of arm posture from nominal configuration to either elbow-side or arm-front configurations. Furthermore, captured motion in more natural tennis swing appeared to agree well with visual observations made.

  • The compressed packer device is designed to improve the underground contamination prevention facilities of ground water wells. As for the device, the installation is simple because of the safety lock device and the compression of the casing are simple the installation is simple. There is no leakage of ground water because the pressure resistance with $4.5\;kg/cm^2$ makes it equipped with the watertightness The single casing is installed and the reaming for grouting is possible with 300 mm excavation so that installation cost can be saved. Silicon rubber is used for the compressed packer so that the extension rate is 590%. In terms of environmental pollution, it is an environmental friendly product which does not contain harmful ingredients such as Pb, Cd, and phenol. below the standard or undetectable level Furthermore, the installation costs are 35 to 62% or lower than the conventional grouting construction method and are 87% or lower than the expansion packer construction method, the new environmental technology No.47 Also, the device is designed to meet the relevant regulations such as Rules on Preserving the Ground Water Quality, The Standard on Jeju Island Ground Water Development and Facility Installation and Management, and The Plan and Guideline on Operating and Managing the Small-Scale Tap Water Facilities of Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

  • In the present work a new friction device, with a set of single or double rotational friction flanges and a link element, is described and tested. The mechanism may be applied for the strengthening of existing r/c or steel buildings as well as in new constructed buildings. The device has selectable variable behavior in different levels of displacement and an interlock mechanism that is provided by the link element. The link element may be designed to lock at preselected level of displacement, offering in this way an extra safety reserve against strong earthquakes. A summary of the existing literature about other similar mechanisms is initially presented in this paper. The proposed mechanism is presented and described in details. Laboratory experiments are presented in detail and the resulted response that proves the efficiency of the mechanism at selectable levels of strength capacity is discussed. Drawings of the mechanism attached to a r/c frame with connection details are also included. Finally a dynamic analysis of two r/c frames, with and without the proposed mechanism attached, is performed and the resulted response is given. The main conclusion is that the proposed mechanism is a cheap and efficient devise for the improvement of the performance of new or existing framed buildings to seismic loads.

  • ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) is a safety device for preventing wheel locking in a sudden braking. It consists of hydraulic modulator, ECU(Electronic Control Unit) and angular velocity sensors. Its control methods are classified into three types; deceleration control, slip ratio control and deceleration/acceleration control. In this paper, ABS mounted vehicle is mathematically modeled and the proposed model is verified by actual cars experiments, and the braking characteristics of the control methods with pulse width modulation are compared and analyzed through computer simulations.
