  • Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic turned biological hazards in the working environment into a global concern. This systematized review of published reviews aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of the specific jobs and categories of workers exposed to biological hazards with the related prevention. Methods: We extracted reviews published in English and French in PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science. Two authors, working independently, subsequently screened the potentially relevant titles and abstracts recovered (step 1) and then examined relevant full texts (step 2). Disagreements were resolved by consensus. We built tables summarizing populations of exposed workers, types of hazards, types of outcomes (types of health issues, means of prevention), and routes of transmission. Results: Of 1426 studies initially identified, 79 studies by authors from every continent were selected, mostly published after 2010 (n = 63, 79.7%). About half of the reviews dealt with infectious hazards alone (n = 38, 48.1%). The industrial sectors identified involved healthcare alone (n = 16), laboratories (n = 10), agriculture (including the animal, vegetable, and grain sectors, n = 32), waste (n = 10), in addition of 11 studies without specific sectors. The results also highlighted a range of hazards (infectious and noninfectious agents, endotoxins, bioaerosols, organic dust, and emerging agents). Conclusion: This systematized overview allowed to list the populations of workers exposed to biological hazards and underlined how prevention measures in the healthcare and laboratory sectors were usually well defined and controlled, although this was not the case in the agriculture and waste sectors. Further studies are necessary to quantify these risks and implement prevention measures that can be applied in every country.

  • The primary goal of this study is to analyze fire hazards of electric home appliances such as electric iron and electric heater using fault tree analysis(FTA). A fault tree(FT) is constructed and used to analyze fire hazards in electric home appliances. The fault tree is built from events that may occur in electric home appliances. The failure rate of basic events are derived from the value of experimental results and reference. And an algorithm analyzing fire in electric home appliances is suggested. We show how fault tree analysis, carried out by means of failure rate, is able to diagnose fire hazards of electric home appliances in a precise manner. We present numerical results such as fire probability of electric home appliances, importance measure, fire cause, etc. It can be helpful in preventing the fire hazards in electric home appliances.

  • Though food safety efforts of the government has been increasing, but the health hazards resulting from food does not stop and thus increases consumers' anxiety and distrust of government. For more reliable safety management, developing analysis and intake measurement methods and strengthening regulatory control with strict criteria is necessary. In addition, as not only the known hazards by now, but also unknown but obvious hazards are simultaneously ongoing in current environments, the unified risk management and health assessment for food, health food and medicines from the media is critical. As risks and damage to health may show up after a long time after exposure, preventive measures and strategies for safety control is also needed.

  • To prevent safety hazards in dangerous working area, we have proposed an intelligent image analysis system. Six common patterns of safety violations of workers' are defined and its motion detection algorithms are developed for alarm to CCTV monitoring system. Developed algorithms are implemented at 195 dangerous areas such as chemical and gas treated room. The results of violated motion detection ratio by developed system shows 94.95% of true positive cases, and 0.21% of false positive cases from all 587,645 event cases in one month implementation period. In the period, it is observed that the number of safety rule violations and the following accidents are decreased.

  • Background: The manufacture of paint involves a variety of processes that present with medical hazards. Safety initiatives are hence introduced to limit hazard exposures and promote workplace safety. This aim of this study is to assess the use of available control measures/initiatives in selected paint factories in Lagos West Senatorial District, Nigeria. Methods: A total of 400 randomly selected paint factory workers were involved in the study. A well-structured World Health Organization standard questionnaire was designed and distributed to the workers to elicit information on awareness to occupational hazards, use of personal protective devices, and commonly experienced adverse symptoms. Urine samples were obtained from 50 workers randomly selected from these 400 participants, and the concentrations of the heavy metals (lead, cadmium, arsenic, and chromium) were determined using atomic absorption spectroscopy. Results: The results show that 72.5% of the respondents are aware of the hazards associated with their jobs; 30% have had formal training on hazards and safety measures; 40% do not use personal protective devices, and 90% of the respondents reported symptoms relating to hazard exposure. There was a statistically significant (p < 0.05) increase in the mean heavy metal concentrations in the urine samples obtained from paint factory workers as compared with nonfactory workers. Conclusion: The need to develop effective frameworks that will initiate the integration and ensure implementation of safety regulations in paint factories is evident. Where these exist, there is a need to promote adherence to these practice guidelines.

  • Train control system in LRT (Light Rail Transit) is developed as a part of "Light Rail Transit System Development Project". But there was no specific requirement representing the system safety. Because system safety must be ensured before the customization, we applied the system to a officially recognized specific procedure, such as "A Guideline to Ensure the Safety of Train Control System in Korea" that was officially announced by KNR (Korea National Railroad) in 2001. We should draw system safely requirement to guarantee system safety for the first time. In this paper, the hazard identification and analysis to derive the safety requirement on LRT train control system are carried out following the KNR guideline. To analyze hazard, we have to deduce system functions, identify related hazards, derive the effects of the hazards, analyze current risk, define the target risk of the system, and deduce the alternative plans to reduce the effects of the hazards. After the hazard analysis following the upper procedure, 30 hazards are identified and analysed. Especially detailed analysis on train collision that is a main hazard of the train control of system is specially carried out.

  • Aviation Maintenance Technician(AMT)'s error is not directly link to deficiency which is differ to flight crew's error and it potentially maintains. Due to it usually occur as undesired aircraft state, hazards, like unreported maintenance error or near miss fortunately undetected and are not develop to accident. This could be a crucial influence of an accident occurrence. To remove these hazards, just safety culture should be support that anyone can report about safety problems and person who reported safety problems and hazards like near miss, should not get disadvantages. Also if it is satisfied, they must exempt for punishment and guaranteed for security. Hence, on this study, aviation maintenance site's just culture need to be researched and analysed about improvement for aviation maintenance field's positive just culture.

  • Gamcheon Port, which is one of three major harbors in the Port of Busan, is being operated to load, discharge and transport a wide range of cargoes, including general cargo, fisheries, steel products, cement, etc,. The harbor, designated as a compulsory pilotage area, provides pilotage services in compliance with relevant laws and regulations for arrival and departure of vessels in the Gamcheon Port area. Some academic research on the marine traffic environment in Gamcheon Port has been conducted. However, the pilotage environment and hazards to pilotage safety in the port have yet to be studied. Therefore, in this research, the pilotage environment and hazards to pilotage safety were identified, and it was confirmed that there are hazards to pilotage safety, such as vessels installed poor facilities including damaged pilot boarding arrangements, vessels blocking pilot's view by her structures and fishing nets, vessels unable to communicate in English, vessels not following VTS's order. The hazards to pilotage safety were also stratified, and the importance of the hazards was verified in accordance with a survey based on Analytic Hierachy P rocess(AHP) for Busan Harbor pilots, and safety measures to secure pilotage safety were examined to secure the safety of vessels calling Gamcheon Port.
