  • This paper tried to apply psychosocial factors in industrial safety research. Since Zohar's(1980) publication of safety climate in the field of safety research, this approach have been done by many researchers. Here, this paper reviewed the relationship between safety climate factors(safety rule, prevention, superior attitude, social support) and safety compliance, and the moderating effects of work condition, required skill and age. Based on the responses from 233 employees in Kangwon province industry, hierarchical regressional analysis showed that all safety climate factors(safety rule, prevention, superior attitude, social support) have positive relationship with safety compliance. Safety rule appeared to be more positively related with safety compliance, while work condition is more favorable and worker is older. But social support appeared to be more positively with safety compliance, while work condition is more unfavorable, and also prevention appeared to be more positively with safety compliance, while worker is more younger.

  • The human reproductive system can be affected by occupational exposure to many physical and chemical risk factors. This study was carried out to review the studies conducted on the issue of the pathophysiological effects of occupational physical and chemical risk factors on the reproductive system of females and males. In this systematic review, the databases such as "Google Scholar," "Pub-Med," "Scopus," and "Web of Science" were used. Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA 2020), the studies included in our study were published between 2000 and 2021. In order to extract the required data, all sections of the articles were reviewed. Out of 57 articles we reviewed, 34 articles were related to field studies and 23 articles to clinical studies. Among them, 43 studies dealt with the pathophysiological effects of chemical agents, six studies dealt with the pathophysiological effects of physical factors, and 8 studies dealt with the pathophysiological effects of physicochemical factors on the human reproductive system. Physical (noise, heat, and radiofrequency radiation) and chemical (such as carbamate and organophosphate pesticides, benzene, toluene, xylene, formaldehyde, NO2, CS2, manganese, lead, nickel, and n-hexane) risk factors had pathophysiological effects on the human reproductive system. The presence of these risk factors in the workplace caused damage to the human reproductive system. The rate of these negative pathophysiological effects can be reduced by performing appropriate managerial, technical, and engineering measures in work environments.

  • The goal of this study was to investigate some significant factors to influence level of safety at plant construction field and analyze degree of risk by work classification. Currently, there are lots of construction fields for the nuclear power plant for electricity generation, and our government also planned constructing more nuclear power plant in near future. However, much of the safety literature neglected the degree of risk factors on the plant construction field. Safety managers participated in the brainstorming session for drawing decision criteria of the degree of risk (i.e., significant factors). Then, they were asked to answer a structured questionnaire which was developed for drawing most important factors. Finally, the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) was used to analyze level of risk by work classification. The following results were obtained. First, total twelve factors judging degree of risk were found in the brainstorming session. Second, the questionnaire showed four significant factors, including number of workers, working environments, skill of craft and accident experience. Third, the results of AHP showed Architecture work is the most dangerous work among 6 work types. The results could be used to reduce degree of risk in construction field of the nuclear power plant.

  • In recent years, the most safety studies have been focused on identifying the relationship between safety climate and safe work behavior in accordance with the awareness that prime causes of accidents are organizational, managerial, and human factors rather than pure technical failures across the world. This study focused empirical research aimed at finding out the safety climate factors and examining the relationships of the safety climate and safe work behavior in construction site in Korea, too. A 10 numbers of safety climate factors were adapted from the Mohamed's study(2002) and tested using PLS-GRAPH 3.0 expecting same results as Mohamed' study. And then the relationship between safety climate and safe work behavior was examined. Only two safety climate factors-personal risk appreciation and worker's safety competence-were found and a strong positive relationship between safety climate and safe work behavior was identified in this study. Discussed in details about the results and implications and suggested further studies.

  • Demographics, personality traits and attitudes are related to safety behaviors in varied workplaces, but their roles in nuclear power plants (NPPs) have not been fully understood. This study was conducted to explore the roles of a set of demographic, personality and attitudinal factors on self-reported safety behaviors (including safety participation and human errors) among NPP commissioning workers. Survey data were collected from 157 Chinese commissioning workers. Results showed that age and work experience were significantly associated with human errors, but not with safety participation. Neuroticism and conscientiousness were significantly related to human errors, while neuroticism, conscientiousness and agreeableness were significantly related to safety participation. Attitude towards questioning was observed as an antecedent of safety participation, and functioned as a mediating variable in the relation between conscientiousness and safety behaviors. The findings provide evidence-based implications on the design of diverse interventions and strategies for the promotion of safety behaviors in NPPs.
