Advanced LDC Test Bed Using Energy Recovery Technique for HEVs

  • This paper reports the development of test bed with the energy recovering technique using two-step boost converter. The device is utilized for LDC aging test of Hyundai Motor's LPI AVANTE HEV in mass production. The developed power recycle type test bed is designed as 1.5 kW class to test up to the maximum load power of LDC and is also designed to supply scant power supply up to 500 W after power recycle. The theoretical design analysis and operational characteristics analysis results of test bed are reported, and its practicality and reliability are verified through the test result. Also, the finally developed test bed confirms approximately 79~85 % energy saving effect compared to the usual traditional aging test system.

  • The various levels of test are performed to verify the correctness, completeness, and quality of the developed flight software. The three main test levels are unit test, integration test and verification test. The flight software unit test is performed on the individual PC environment using target simulator. And integration and verification test is mainly performed on STB(S/W Test Bed) which provides test and debugging environments for flight software on the target board This document is to present the test environment for the next generation low earth orbit satellite flight software development.

Experimental Study on the Measurement of Fire Behavior and Heat Release Rate in Building Compartment Space - Focus on Full Scale Fire Test of the Bed Mattress - (건축물 구획공간에 따른 화재성상 및 열방출율 측정에 관한 실험적 연구 - 실물규모 침대 매트리스 화재시험 중심으로 -)

  • To measure the full scale fire test and heat release rate of bed mattresses according to the building compartment space, a fire test was performed using the Standard test method to determine the heat release rate of mattresses and mattress sets (KS F ISO 12949: 2011). Both test locations showed similar fire growth until approximately 3 minutes after burner ignition. After 3 minutes, the heat release rate in the test room was higher than the open calorimeter. For bed mattresses (SS), the maximum heat release rate in the open calorimeter was 735 kW and the maximum heat release rate in the test room was 992 kW. For bed mattresses (Q), the heat release rate in the test room increased more rapidly than the open calorimeter. The maximum heat release rate in the open calorimeter was 1,087 kW (346 s) and the maximum heat release rate in the test room was 2,127 kW (287 s). The difference between the maximum heat release rate and the measurement time according to the test location was confirmed.

  • Cold bed and $30kW_{th}$ pilot bed tests using circulating fluidized bed (CFB) were conducted to apply oxy-fuel technology for waste sludge combustion as a carbon capture and storage technology. In cold bed test, the minimum fluidization velocity ($u_{mf}$) and superficial velocity for fast fluidization was determined as 0.120 m/s and 2.5 m/s, respectively. In the pilot test, air and oxy-fuel combustion experiments for waste sludge were conducted using CFB unit. The flue-gas temperature in 21~25% oxy-fuel combustion was higher than that of air and up to 30% oxy-fuel combustion. In addition, the concentration of carbon dioxide was more than 80% with the oxygen injection range from 21% to 25% in oxy-fuel CFB waste sludge combustion.

  • The research of image quality estimation standard and the image quality change according to the network traffic load increase at IPTV multicasting service is necessary because the concern of IPTV(Internet Protocol TV) service become active recently. In the research, for finding out the threshold value of network performance elements giving the effect to the image quality according to the network traffic load, we developed S/W to operate the test bed network and make the test scenario through test bed network test and then we expand the test environment scope to the college network and try to measure the image quality change of IPTV multicasting service according to the network traffic load increase at the college network similar to the real IPTV service environment.

Study on the Fire Behavior of Spring Bed Mattress with and Without a Cooling Frame (냉각프레임 설치 유무에 따른 스프링 침대 매트리스의 화재성상에 관한 연구)

  • To improve the fire safety of spring bed mattress, a cooling frame including cooling material (water) was made and a cooling frame was installed under the bed mattress or between the bed mattress and bed mattress base; fire tests (real scale) were conducted with or without a cooling frame. Similar fire behavior was observed at the beginning of the test (approximately 3 minutes). Subsequently, rapid fire growth in the mattress without a cooling frame, but with a cooling frame, the decline progressed without growth. The flame spread on the top surface of the bed mattress was similar in the semicircular direction, and the average flame speed velocity was analyzed at approximately 0.005 m/s. The maximum flame height was found to be approximately 2.7 m without a cooling frame, and approximately 1.8 m with a cooling frame installed. In addition, the maximum heat release rate was measured to be approximately 740 kW without a cooling frame, and approximately 400 kW with a cooling frame installed. As a result, the flame height and heat release rate were reduced when the bed mattress was fired through the installed cooling frame.

  • Biomass to Liquid (BTL) is an attractive option for using biomass as an renewable energy. A syngas supplying system has been designed for BTL system, based on the Fischer-Tropsche (FT) process, and long-term operation test was conducted. The syngas supplying system is composed of a fluidized bed gasifier, gas cleaning and compression system, and methanol absorption system. Stable operation of more than hundred hours was achieved with several champaigns. In addition, a pilot scale biomass gasifier has been developed for 1 bbl/day BTL system and its performance was evaluated. Some preliminary results and current status of the development of BTL system will be presented.

  • In this study, a test bed was constructed in order to evaluate thermal efficiency of the energy pile which carries out combined roles of a structural foundation and of a heat exchanger. The energy pile in this study is designed as a large-diameter drilled shaft equipped with the heat exchange pipes which configures a W-shape and an S-shape. The drilled shaft reached to the depth of 60 m whilst the heat exchange pipes were installed to about 30 m deep from the ground surface. The W-shaped and S-shaped heat exchange pipes were installed in the opposite sections of the same drilled shaft. In-situ thermal response tests were performed for both the shapes of heat exchange pipes. To avoid underestimating the thermal performance due to hydration heat of concrete inside the drilled shaft, the in-situ thermal response tests for the energy pile were performed after four weeks since the installation of the energy pile.

  • Recently, the reliability evaluation and analysis are applied for many industrial products, and many products are required to guarantee in quality and in efficiency. The purpose of this paper is to present some of reliability evaluation methodologies that are applicable to machine tools. Especially ATC(Automatic Too Changer), which is core component of line center, was chosen as the target of the reliability evaluation and analysis. The scope of research is reliability prediction, reliability test and evaluates their results. The results of this research has shown the failure rate, MTBF(Mean Time Between Failure), reliability for those components and real tests reliability through constructed reliability test-bed. It is expected that proposed methodologies will increase reliability for high speed line center.
