  • There are many memory leak detection tools. However, programmers, who develop very large programs, tend to avoid testing their programs with memory leak detection tools since these tools require runtime and space overheads. Thus, we present a memory leak detection technique which enables programmers to test their modules in their unit test phase with low overheads. To achieve this goal, we extend the existing cyclic memory allocation technique and evaluate our memory leak detection technique on a tiny DBMS. In our experiments, we find our tool has reasonably low runtime and space overheads and it reports only a small number of false positives.

  • In this paper, we introduce three monitoring filtering techniques which reduce the overheads of dynamic data race detection. It is well known that detecting data races dynamically in multi-threaded programs is quite hard and troublesome task, because the dynamic detection techniques need to monitor all execution of a multi-threaded program and to analyse every conflicting memory and thread operations in the program. Thus, the main drawback of the dynamic analysis for detecting data races is the heavy additional time and space overheads for running the program. For the practicality, we also empirically compare the efficiency of three monitoring filtering techniques. The results using OpenMP benchmarks show that the filtering techniques are practical for dynamic data race detection, since they reduce the average runtime overhead to under 10% of that of the pure detection.

  • Implementing conventional DFT solution for arrays of DNN accelerators having large number of processing elements (PEs), without considering architectural characteristics of PEs may incur overwhelming test overheads. Recent DFT based techniques have utilized the homogeneity and dataflow of arrays at PE-level and Core-level for obtaining reduction in; test pattern volume, test time, test power and ATPG runtime. This paper reviews these contemporary test solutions for ASIC based DNN accelerators. Mainly, the proposed test architectures, pattern application method with their objectives are reviewed. It is observed that exploitation of architectural characteristic such as homogeneity and dataflow of PEs/ arrays results in reduced test overheads.

  • We propose two new approaches that automatically parallelize Java programs at runtime. These approaches, which rely on run-time trace information collected during program execution, dynamically recompile Java byte code that can be executed in parallel. One approach utilizes trace information to improve traditional loop parallelization, and the other parallelizes traces instead of loop iterations. We also describe a cost/benefit model that makes intelligent parallelization decisions, as well as a parallel execution environment to execute parallelized programs. These techniques are based on Jikes RVM. Our approach is evaluated by parallelizing sequential Java programs, and its performance is compared to that of the manually parallelized code. According to the experimental results, our approach has low overheads and achieves competitive speedups compared to the manually parallelizing code. Moreover, trace parallelization can exploit parallelism beyond loop iterations.
