Efficient Extraction of Hierarchically Structured Rules Using Rough Sets

  • This paper deals with rule extraction from data using rough set theory. We construct the rule base in a hierarchical granulation structure by applying core as a classification criteria at each level. When more than one core exist, the coverage is used for the selection of an appropriate one among them to increase the classification rate and accuracy. In Addition, a probabilistic approach is suggested so that the partially useful information included in inconsistent data can be contributed to knowledge reduction in order to decrease the effect of the uncertainty or vagueness of data. As a result, the proposed method yields more proper and efficient rule base in compatability and size. The simulation result shows that it gives a good performance in spite of very simple rules and short conditionals.

An explicit time-integration method for damped structural systems

  • A damped trapezoidal rule method for numerical time-integration is presented, and its application in analyses of dynamic response of damped structures is discussed. It is shown that the damped trapezoidal rule method has features that make it an attractive approach for applications in dynamic analyses of structures. Accuracy and stability analyses are developed for the damped single-degree-of-freedom systems. Error analyses are also performed for the Newmark beta method and compared with the damped trapezoidal rule method as a basis for discussion of the relative merits of the proposed method. The procedure is fully explicit and easy to implement. However, since the method is an explicit method, it is conditionally stable. The methodology is applied to several example problems to illustrate its strengths, limitations and inherent simplicity.

Estimation of Total Astigmatism Quantity from Corneal Astigmatism on Koreans in Their Twenties (한국인의 20대에서 각막난시에 의한 전난시량의 예측)

  • Purpose: Javals' rule is a commonly used formula for estimating total astigmatism from corneal astigmatism. Many researchers suggested a modication of Javals' rule. Therefore, we estimated the total astigmatism on the basis of measurements of corneal astigmatism and assessed the accuracy of Javals' rule. Methods: We estimated the total astigmatism on the basis of measurements of corneal astigmatism on 108 eyes of 54 subjects of koreans in their twenties. Results: The regression of the total astigmatism from corneal astigmatism is less than 1.25 of Javals' rule, but it was equivalent to Auger's modified Javals' rule. Conclusions: The regression equation for this study was as follows: Total Astigmatism=0.79 (Corneal Astigmatism)-0.49D${\times}$90.

A Design of the Expert System for Diagnosis of Abnormal Gait by using Rule-Based Representation (규칙처리 표현방식을 이용한 이상 보행용 전문가 시스템의 설계)

  • This paper describes a design of the expert system for diagnosis of abnormal gait patients. This system makes the rule-based representation that can easily extend the knowledge-base and naturally represent the uncertainty, and the inference engine that uses forward chaining which covers the reasoning from the first condition to the goal. The results of inferring various maladies using this system are as follows: 1) In cases of progressive muscular dystrophy, cerebral vascular accident, peripheral neuropathic lesion and peroneal nerve injury, the result of inference is the same as that of medical specialists' with 100% accuracy. 2) In cases of Neuritis, Paralysis agitan and Brain tumor, the accuracy of inference is less than 50% compared to that of medical specialists. With above results, we decide that the rule-based representations of some maladies ard accurate relatively, but that the correction and the extention of some rules and some methods of problem solving are required in order to construct the complete expert system for diagnosis of abnormal gait patients.

  • Automatic tracking of vehicles is important to accurately estimate the vehicle speeds in video-based traffic measurement systems and to analyze traffic flows for road construction. This paper proposes a carefully designed rule-based tracking scheme that considers the possible cases that can be appeared in the video-based vehicle racking. The proposed scheme is fast and outperforms the Mean-Shift scheme in terms of accuracy. The accuracy and the speed of the scheme would be increased by combining it with color-based searching and Kalman filters.

  • Active database execute an action of active rule defined in advance which is triggered automatically, whenever an event with the matching event specifications occurs, its condition is evaluated. Because these rules may in turn trigger other rules, the set of rules may be triggered each other indefinitely, Therefore, we propose a termination analysis method to guarantee termination. This proposed method considers composite event as well as rule execution time. Above all, the method not only uses deactivation graph combined to trigger graph for exact analysis, but also improves the complexity of analysis. Also the proposed method enhances accuracy of analysis result.

CCQC modal combination rule using load-dependent Ritz vectors

  • Response spectrum method is still an effective approach for the design of buildings with supplemental dampers. In practice, complex complete quadratic combination (CCQC) rule is always used in the response spectrum method to consider the effect of non-classical damping. The conventional CCQC rule is based on exact complex mode vectors. Sometimes the calculated complex mode vectors may be not excited by the external loading and errors in the structural responses always arise due to the mode truncation. Load-dependent Ritz (LDR) vectors are associated with the external loading and LDR vectors not excited can be automatically excluded. Also, contributions of higher modes are implicitly contained in the LDR vectors in terms of static responses. To improve the calculation efficiency and accuracy, LDR vectors are introduced in the CCQC rule in the present study. Firstly, the generation procedure of LDR vectors suitable for non-classical damping system is presented. Compared to the conventional LDR vectors, the LDR vectors herein are complex-valued and named as complex LDR (CLDR) vectors. Based on the CLDR vectors, the CCQC rule is then rederived and an improved response spectrum method is developed. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method in this paper is verified through three typical non-classical damping buildings. Numerical results show that the CLDR vector is superior to the complex mode with the same number in the calculation. Since the generation of CLDR vectors requires less computational cost and storage space, the method proposed in this paper offers an attractive alternative, especially for structures with a large number of degrees of freedom.

Combined Filtering Model Using Voting Rule and Median Absolute Deviation for Travel Time Estimation (통행시간 추정을 위한 Voting Rule과 중위절대편차법 기반의 복합 필터링 모형)

  • This study suggested combined filtering model to eliminate outlier travel time data in transportation information system, and it was based on Median Absolute Deviation and Voting Rule. This model applied Median Absolute Deviation (MAD) method to follow normal distribution as first filtering process. After that, Voting rule is applied to eliminate remaining outlier travel time data after Median Absolute Deviation. In Voting Rule, travel time samples are judged as outliers according to travel-time difference between sample data and mean data. Elimination or not of outliers are determined using a majority rule. In case study of national highway No. 3, combined filtering model selectively eliminated outliers only and could improve accuracy of estimated travel time.

  • The malicious URLs which can be used for sending malicious codes and illegally acquiring private information is one of the biggest threat of information security field. Particularly, recent prevalence of smart-phone increases the possibility of the user's exposing to malicious URLs. Since the way of hiding the URL from the user is getting more sophisticated, it is getting harder to detect it. In this paper, after conducting a survey of the user experiences related to malicious URLs, we are proposing the rule-based malicious URL detection method. In addition, we have developed java library which can be applied to any other applications which need to handle the malicious URL. Each class of the library is implementation of a rule for detecting a characteristics of a malicious URL and the library itself is the set of rule which can have the chain of rule for deteciing more complicated situation and enhancing the accuracy. This kinds of rule based approach can enhance the extensibility considering the diversity of malicious URLs.

A Study on the Safety Design Rule Checking System for Automatic Verification of Design Errors (설계오류 자동 검증을 위한 안전 설계 Rule Checking 체계에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: When designing plants and workplaces such as handling and using chemicals, a system that can automatically determine whether the design has been made in compliance with domestic safety management laws is established to shorten the review time and increase accuracy. Method: Safety design standards for chemical handling and use workplaces were investigated, and types and systems were derived that could automatically judge design errors by dividing the articles into semantic units. Result: An automatic design review method performed when designing a building was proposed, and a system that can review the safety design requirements required when designing a chemical handling business site through the development of a rule checker was proposed. After confirming whether the law is subject to application, the safety design rules are classified into semantic units through preprocessing. The classified results can be classified into four types, and the specifications, space, conditions, situations, and specific devices and facilities to reinforce safety were analyzed as representative types. It proposes a system that prepares a diagram for the safety design rule and allows it to be reviewed through the rule checker program.
