Studies on the Forming Process for the Bipolar Plate of Fuel Cells

  • Stamping process and rubber pad forming process were performed to manufacture the bipolar plate for fuel cells. For that, a vacuum die casting process and a semi-solid forming process wherein liquid-state materials were used were adopted. After preparing the blank with the stainless steel thin plate having a thickness of 0.1 mm, the bipolar plate channel was formed with the stamping process and rubber pad forming process. The depth of the bipolar plate channel prepared by the stamping method was 0.45 mm and the depth of the bipolar plate channel prepared by the rubber pad forming process was 0.41 mm. Meanwhile, with the vacuum die casting and semi solid forming, the bipolar plate having a channel depth of 0.3 mm, same as the size of the die, could be formed.

고무댐에 적용하기 위한 유리섬유보강 복합재료 클랩핑 플레이트의 내구 특성 (Durability Characteristics of Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer Composite Clapping Plates for Application of Rubber Dam)

  • Steel clapping plate is used to connecting rubber body in rubber dam. However, once the steel clapping plate corrodes, it may cause faults, such as the same problems experienced by typical reinforcing steel. This study evaluated the applicability of glass fiber reinforced polymer composite(GFRP) clapping plate as a substitute for steel clapping plate. Absorption and load test were conducted to evaluate the decrease in durability of GFRP clapping plate exposed to deterioration environments. In the durability test results, the absorption rate of GFRP clapping plate was appeared as 0.6~1.0% in 50 day of immersion time. Also, the fracture load decreased with accelerated degradation environment exposure. Moreover, the absorption rate in GFRP clapping plate increased as degradation progressed, reducing the fracture load.

  • To apply the wear resistant steel plate for heavy duty vehicle, the wear characterisms of various kinds of commercial steel plates were invesigated by dry sand/rubber wheel tester which was tested under scratch abrasion mode. The wear tested pnaterials were boron steels which were manufactured by thereto machanical control process (TMCP) in order to achieve higher hardness. As the result of the test, wear resistance of steel plate increases with the hardness and carbon content. The wear loss of wear resistance steel plate (Hv440) is a half times than tinat of SWS490A (Hv160) steel plate in dry sand-rubber wheel test and the result in field test is similar to this dry sand/rubber wheel test result. Therefore, dry sand/rubber wheel tester can be used to predict the scratch abrasion life of the parts for heavy duty vehicle.

유한요소법을 이용한 코오드-고무 복합판의 동적특성에 관한 연구 (A study on the dynamic characteristics of the cord-rubber laminates rectangular plate by finite element method)

  • There has been considerable interest over the last twenty years in the subject of the elastic properties of the cord-rubber laminate. This has been due to the rather intensive study of the composites materials characteristics brought about by the increased use of rigid composites materials characteristics brought about by the increased use of rigid composites in many structural applications. The object of this study is to obtain the natural frequencies and modes of the simply supported cord-rubber laminate plates prior to the study on the analysis of the dynamic properties of the pneumatic tire. To obtain these natural frequencies and modes, the 12 degrees of freedom orthotropic rectangular plate finite elements are developed. By using classical lamination theory, the stress-strain relations are represented. The governing equation for the finite element is derived by energy method. To find the natural frequencies and modes, he eigenvalues and corresponding eigenvectors are computed by the well known Jacobi power method. In order to verify the capability of this present finite element, the results of the specially orthotropic plate and the angle-ply laminate plate are compared with the analytical solution. The analytical and numberical results are in good agreement. The following problems of the simply supported plate are analyzed by the present finite element. a) the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the cord-rubber laminate plate for various aspect ratio. b) The natural frequencies and mode shapes of the orthotropic plate with the rectangular hole in its center.

가황된 천연고무 판재의 마찰특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Friction Characteristics of Vulcanized Natural Rubber Plate)

  • 다양한 조건 하에서 고무판의 마찰계수를 폭정하기 위하여 수직하중, 미끄럼속도, 경도, 윤활 조건 및 고무판 두께 등을 변화시켜가면서 시험을 실시하였다. 시험에 사용된 고무판의 재질은 천연고무이며, 상대 부품은 강구를 사용하였다. 수직하중과 미끄럼속도는 마찰계수에 현저한 영향을 미치지 않았으며, 고무판의 경도가 높아지고 고무판의 두께가 얇아질수록 마찰계수는 감소하였다. 무윤활 시 마찰계수는 큰 편차를 보였으나, 오일 윤활인 경우 다른 조건에 관계없이 안정된 값을 나타내었다.

  • 철판에 도금한 아연을 구리이온으로 치환하는 치환도금법과 철판에 직접 구리를 증착하는 진공증착법으로 두께가 다른 구리박막 피복철판을 제조하여 배합고무와 접착성질을 조사하였다. 구리박막 피복철판과 배합고무의 접착세기는 제조방법에 관계없이 구리박막 두께에 따라 결정되었다. 구리박막이 75 nm보다 얇으면 안정한 접착층이 형성되어 황동판에 못지 않게 고무와 강하게 접착되었으나, 90 nm보다 두터우면 구리황화물이 지나치게 성정하여 접착세기가 약하였다.

제진 강판의 블랭킹 가공 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Blanking Characteristic of Anti- Vibration Sheet Metal)

  • In order to study the shearing characteristic of anti-vibration sheet metal which is used to reduce vibration noise, a blanking die was manufactured to blank a workpiece. The variables employed in this study were clearance, type of stripper plate, position of the rubber layer and type of the die design. These variables were used to study the effects on burr height, blank diameter and camber height. In the case of burr height from experimental investigation, the push-back die, combined with a movable stripper plate, showed greater burr height. The rubber-top position of a workpiece resulted in better qualities regardless of working variables. In the comparison of diameter measurement, the use of the push-back die with a fixed stripper plate, with a 4.5% clearance, showed better accuracy. For comparing camber height, the push-back die resulted in less cambering than the drop-through die. Also, the larger the clearance, the greater was the camber height. Considering experimental results, the shearing of anti-vibrational sheet metal is best achieved when the rubber layer is laying on the top, blanked with a fixed stripper plate in a push-back die, with a 4.5% clearance.

Effect of rubber forming process parameters on channel depth of metallic bipolar plates

  • In this study, bipolar plates in fuel cells are formed using rubber forming process. The effects of important parameters in rubber forming such as hardness and thickness of rubber pad, speed and pressure of punch that compress blank, and physical property of materials on the channel depth were analyzed. In the soft material sheet Al1050, deeper channels are formed than in materials STS304 and Ti-G5. Formed channel depth was increased when hardness of rubber pad was lower, thickness of rubber pad was high, and speed and pressure of punch were high. It was found the deepest channel was achieved when forming process condition was set with punch speed and pressure at 30 mm/s and 55 MPa, respectively using rubber pad having hardness Shore A 20 and thickness 60 mm. The channel depths of bipolar plates formed with Al1050, STS304 and Ti-G5 under the above process condition were 0.453, 0.307, and 0.270 mm, respectively. There were no defects such as wrinkle, distortion, and crack found from formed bipolar plates.

대기압 플라즈마를 이용한 고분자 소재의 표면개질 (Surface Modification of Polymeric Material Using Atmospheric Plasma)

  • 고분자 소재에 평판형 플라즈마 전처리 방식을 적용시켜 polyurethane foam(density : 0.27)과 rubber (butadiene rubber) 소재 표면의 접촉각 및 접착력을 향상시켰다. 플라즈마 반응기의 최적의 반응조건을 조사하기 위해서 전처리기류(질소, 아르곤, 산소, 공기), 기류의 유량($30{\sim}100\;mL/min$), 그리고 전처리 시간($0{\sim}30\;s$) 등을 변화시켜 전처리하고 polyurethane foam의 경우 진공식 플라즈마처리 방식과 상호 비교하였다. 분위기 기류인 $N_2$의 유량을 100 mL/min로 설정 후 polyurethane foam은 10 s, rubber는 3 s 동안 전처리 했을 때 가장 높은 접착박리강도를 나타내었다. 전처리 후 소재의 표면 변화는 SEM과 ATR-FTIR을 이용하여 측정하였다. 결과적으로 평판형 플라즈마 조작 방식에 의한 처리로 소재 표면의 젖음성과 접착박리강도가 개선되었음을 확인하였다.
