  • Greedy forwarding is a key mechanism of geographic routing using distance as a metric. As greedy forwarding only uses 1-hop neighbor node information, it minimizes routing overhead and is highly scalable. In existing greedy forwarding schemes, a node selects a next forwarding node based only on the distance. However, the signal strength in a realistic environment reduces exponentially depending on the distance, so that by considering only the distance, it may cause a large number of data packet retransmissions. To solve this problem, many greedy forwarding schemes have been proposed. However, they do not consider the unreliable and asymmetric characteristics of wireless links and thus cause the waste of limited battery resources due to the data packet retransmissions. In this paper, we propose a reliable and energy-efficient opportunistic greedy forwarding scheme for unreliable and asymmetric links (GF-UAL). In order to further improve the energy efficiency, GF-UAL opportunistically uses the path that is expected to have the minimum energy consumption among the 1-hop and 2-hop forwarding paths within the radio range. Comprehensive simulation results show that the packet delivery rate and energy efficiency increase up to about 17% and 18%, respectively, compared with the ones in PRR${\times}$Distance greedy forwarding.

  • Wireless Mesh Network(WMN) is wireless backbone networks technique which has ease of network configuration and cost of advantage. Recently, WNM released a new product, but most of existing research and technology analysis the performance through the simulation. This paper build the wireless mesh network testbed for actual situation. Testbed supports multi-channel multi-interface using bridge, the Wireless Distribution System and dynamic location-based routing protocol. This routing protocol strongly design against wireless interference using metric for link channel change and real distance. Then, the address of mesh clients assigned by the centralized address management server. Mesh clients is designed and implemented to manage network through Simple Network Management Protocol.

  • Energy efficiency in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is one significant factor that needs to be considered when making any designs or doing any enhancements on the communication protocol stack. In WSNs using traditional geographic routing, when a sensor node receives a data packet that needs to be transmitted to the sink, it will forward the packet to the neighbor node which is closest to the sink. The traditional geographic routing assumes that the link quality is always 100%. This may cause a bad result as per which we waste too many energy for retransmissions between the two nodes. Thus, the problem here is how to select such node as forwarder at most efficiently in the aspect of both energy consumption and the distance toward the destination. The better node we choose, the more energy we can conserve for the whole network. In this paper, we propose a next-hop forwarding selection metric, called Energy Consumption for Transmission (ECT), which can resolve the above problem in the best way.

  • A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is an infrastructureless network that supports multi-hop communication. For the MANET nodes wishing to communicate with nodes in the wired Internet, the global Internet connectivity is required and this functionality can be achieved with the help of the Internet gateway. For the support of reliability and flexibility, multiple Internet gateways can be provisioned for a MANET. In this case, load-balancing becomes one of the important issues since the network performance such as the network throughput can be improved if the loads of the gateways are well-balanced. In this paper, we categorize the load-balancing mechanisms and propose a new metric for load-balancing. Simulation results show that our proposed mechanism using the hop distance and the number of routing table entries as a load-balancing metric enhances the overall network throughput.

  • This paper has proposed Message Count Control Mechanism based Link State Update(LSU) Algorithm that has not had a strong influence on the depreciation of QoS routing performance. Most existing LSU algorithms have the limit that cannot control the count of LSU message. Especially, adaptive algorithms have a bad performance when traffic are excessive and fickle. We classify as the importance of LSU message that have a influence on available bandwidth and determine the transmission of the message according to update rate per a unit of time. We have evaluated the performance of the proposed model and the existing algorithms on MCI simulation network using the performance metric as the QoS routing blocking rate and the mean update rate per link, it thus appears that we have verified the performance of this algorithm.

  • Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) protocol and its variants employ two important timers, hello and hold timer to keep track of topology changes. Moreover, hold timer is computed by multiplying constant value to hello timer. But, this configuration leads to inaccurate settings of hold timer. To solve this problem, in this paper, we propose a new dynamic adjustment of hello and hold timer scheme by removing dependency between them. A new metric to measure mobility is applied into hello timer, while expected link lifetime does holder timer. Simulation results show a significant reduction in the number of messages, a fact suggesting that it is possible to maintain and in some cases improve the performance of AODV with a minimum amount of messages released into the network.

  • This paper proposes a channel diversity based load-balancing cross-layer routing scheme for Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs). The proposed scheme deals with channel diversity phase and load balancing phase in WMNs. Channel diversity factor $metric_{ch-d}$ and load balancing factor $f_{load}$ are defined and employed cooperatively as a combined path selection policy.
