  • This paper considers mobility control to improve packet delivery in delay-tolerant networks (DTNs) under group mobility. Based on the group structure in group mobility, we propose two mobility control techniques; group formation enforcement and group purposeful movement. Both techniques can be used to increase the contact opportunities between groups by extending the group's reachability. In addition, they can be easily integrated into some existing DTN routing schemes under group mobility to effectively expedite the packet delivery. This paper is divided into 2 parts. First, we study how our proposed mobility control schemes reduce the packet delivery delay in DTNs by integrating them into one simple routing scheme called group-epidemic routing (G-ER). For each scheme, we analytically derive the cumulative density function of the packet delivery delay to show how it can effectively reduce the packet delivery delay. Then, based on our second proposed technique, the group purposeful movement, we design a new DTN routing scheme, called purposeful movement assisted routing (PMAR), to further reduce the packet delay. Extensive simulations in NS2 have been conducted to show the significant improvement of PMAR over G-ER under different practical network conditions.

  • Two key data areas of the integrated production database in computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM) systems are the product structure in the forms of bills of material(BOM) and the process structure in the forms of routings. The great majority of existing information systems regard the BOM and routing as two separate data entities, possibly with some degree of cross-referencing. This paper proposes new information structure called the bills of material and routings(BMR) that logically integrates the BOM and routings for the CIM systems in ship production. The characteristics of ship production are described as: 1) make-to-order production type, 2) combined manufacturing principles (workshop production and construction site production), 3) significant overlapping of design, planning and manufacturing, 4) very long order throughput time, 5) complex product structure and production process. The proposed BMR systematically manages ail parts and operations data needed ship production considering characteristics of ship production. Also, the BMR situated on the integrated production database more efficiently supports interface between engineering and production functions, and integrates a wide variety of functions within production such as production planning, process planning, operation scheduling, material planning, costing etc., and simplifies information flow between sub-systems in CIM systems.

  • This paper presents a new method that can solve the integrated problem of combined location routing and inventory problem (CLRIP) efficiently. The CLRIP is used to establish facilities from several candidate depots, to find the optimal set of vehicle routes, and to determine the inventory policy in order to minimize the total system cost. We propose a mathematical model for the CLRIP with budget constrained. Because this model is a nonpolynomial (NP) problem, we propose a endosymbiotic evolutionary algorithm (EEA) which is a kind of symbiotic evolutionary algorithm (SEA). The heuristic method is used to obtaining the initial solutions for the EEA. The experimental results show that EEA perform very well compared to the existing heuristic methods with considering inventory control decisions.

  • Virtual wavelength path (VWP) is the optical path when a wavelength conversion is possible in a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) network that is transmission infrastructure for the next generation high speed backbone networks. To achieve efficient design for VWP networks, we must consider VWP routing, wavelength assignment, and wavelength conversion while satisfying many technical constraints of the WDM networks. In this study we propose an integrated model for efficient VWP design in WDM networks. We also develope a 3-phase algorithm, each of which deals with routing, wavelength assignment and route and wavelength reassignment, respectively. In our computational experiments, phase 1 algorithm can solve the problem to the optimality for medium size test networks. Phase 2 algorithm is an efficient heuristic based on a reduced layered network and can give us an effective wavelength assignment. Finally, phase 3 algorithm reconfigure VWP routing and its wavelength assignment to concentrate wavelength conversion nodes in the suggested VWP network.

  • This paper deals with a process planning problem in the flexible assembly system (FAS). The problem is to assign assembly tasks to stations with limited working space and to determine assembly routing with the objective of minimizing transfer time of the products among stations, while satisfying precedence relations among the tasks and upper-bound workload constraints for each station. In the process planning of FAS, the optimality of assembly routing depends on tasks loading. The integration of tasks loading and assembly routing is therefore important for an efficient utilization of FAS. To solve the integrated problem at the same time, in this paper we propose a new method using an artificial intelligent search technique, named 2-leveled symbiotic evolutionary algorithm. Through computational experiments, the performance of the proposed algorithm is compared with those of a traditional evolutionary algorithm and a symbiotic evolutionary algorithm. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the algorithms compared.

  • The integrated supply chain of business partners for e-Commerce in cyber space is defined as Logistics Chain if the cooperative activities are logistics-related. Logistics Chain could be managed effectively and efficiently by cooperative technologies of logistics chain execution. In this paper, we propose a routing and scheduling algorithm based on the Tabu search by adding geographical information into existing constraint for pick-up and delivery process to minimize service time and cost in logistics chain. And, we also consider an uncertainty processing for the tracing of moving object to control pick-up and delivery vehicles based on GPS/GIS/ITS. Uncertainty processing is required to minimize amount of telecommunication and database on vehicles tracing. Finally, we describe the Logistics Chain Execution (LCE) system to perform plan and control activities for postal logistics chain. To evaluate practical effects of the routing and scheduling system, we perform a pretest for the performance of the tabu search algorithm. And then we compare our result with the result of the pick-up and delivery routing plan generated manually by postmen.

  • An effective management for reverse flows of products such as reuse, repair and disposal, has become an important issue for every aspect of business. In this paper, we study the Location-Routing Problem (LRP) in the multi-stage closed-loop supply chain network. The closed-loop supply chain in this study integrated both forward and reverse flows. In forward flow, a factory, Distribution Center (DC) and retailer are considered as usual. Additionally in reverse flow, we consider the Central Returns collection Center (CRC) and disposal facility. We propose a mixed integer programming model for the design of closed-loop supply chain integrating both forward and reverse flows. Since the LRP belongs to an NP-hard problem, we suggest a heuristic algorithm based on genetic algorithm. For some test problems, we found the optimal locations and routes by changing the numbers of retailers and facility candidates. Furthermore, we compare the efficiencies between open-loop and closed-loop supply chain networks. The results show that the closed-loop design is better than the open one in respect to the total routing distance and cost. This phenomenon enlarges the cut down effect on cost as an experimental space become larger.

  • Extending mobile IP to ad hoc networks with the foreign agent acting as the bridge between the wired network and ad hoc networks can provide the global Internet connectivity for ad hoc hosts. The existing research in the area of the integrated wired and ad hoc network is carried out in a non-adversarial setting. This paper analysed an effective solution to solve the security related problems encountered in these integrated networks. This security protocol also excludes malicious nodes from performing the ad hoc network routing. This paper focuses on preventing ad hoc hosts from the attacks of anti-integrity.

  • In this paper, we address an extended hub-and-spoke transportation network design problem (EHSNP). In the existing hub location problems, the location and number of spokes, and shipments on spokes are given as input data. These may, however, be viewed as the variables according to the areas which they cover. Also, the vehicle routing in each spoke needs to be considered to estimate the network cost more correctly. The EHSNP is a problem of finding the location of hubs and spokes, and pickup/delivery routes from each spoke, while minimizing the total related transportation cost in the network. The EHSNP is an integrated problem that consists of several interrelated sub-problems. To solve EHSNP, we present an approach based on a symbiotic evolutionary algorithm (symbiotic EA), which are known as an efficient tool to solve complex integrated optimization problems. First, we propose a framework of symbiotic EA for EHSNP and its genetic elements suitable for each sub-problem. To analyze the proposed algorithm, the extensive experiments are performed with various test-bed problems. The results show that the proposed algorithm is promising in solving the EHSNP.

  • Today's computing environment which is getting distributed to communicate with various systems needs dynamic inter-connectivity of the systems. MOM(Message Oriented Middleware) is popularly used for transmitting XML messages among the distributed systems for the inter-connectivity. But, they do not support event-based message routing functionalities with XML transformation for processing effective message routing, which is essential to inter-connectivity, and there is no integrated platform to cope with these requirements. Although event-based message routing and XML transformation have been studied in a wide range of computer science areas, development of message routing systems is considered as a tough job due to the technological difficulties. In order to address these requirements, we proposed a novel system, named RMRS(Rule-based Message Routing System), which supports event-based message routing as well as XML message transformation. To make the proposed system easy to use, we also redesigned ECA(Event- Condition-Action) rule to fit in our system and developed a tool to map source XML structure into target XML structure.
