  • We have evaluated the BER's and CLP's of Wireless ATM (WATM) cells employing the concatenated FEC code with pilot symbols for fading compensation through the simulation in indoor wireless channel modeled as a Rayleigh and a Rician fading channel, respectively. The results of the performance evaluation are compared with those obtained by employing the convolutional code in the same condition. In Rayleigh fading channel, considering the maximum tolerance BER ( $10^-3$) as a criterion of the voice service, it is blown that the performance improvement of about 4 dB is obtained in terms of $E_b/N_o$ by employing the concatenated FEC code with pilot symbols rather than the convolutional code with pilot symbols. When the values of K parameter which means the ratio of the direct signal to scattered signal power in Rician fading channel are 6 and 10, it is shown that the performance improvement of about 4 dB and 2 dB is obtained, respectively, in terms of $E_b/N_o$ by employing the concatenated FEC code with pilot symbols considering the maximum tolerance BER of the voice service. Also in Rician fading channel of K=6 and K= 10, considering CLP = $10^-3$ as a criterion, it is observed that the performance improvement of about 3.5 dB and1.5 dB is obtained, respectively, in terms of $E_b/N_o$ by employing the concatenated FEC code with pilot symbols.

  • To examine how the width of connecting channels, the width of the Kumho lock gate, and the opening/shutting criteria of the Yeongam connecting channel lock gate affect the flood stage of Lake Yeongsan, Lake Yeongam, and Lake Kumho, located in the lower reaches of the Yeongsan River, unsteady flood routing was performed by connecting the three lakes into a single interlinked system. The coupled operation of the three lakes was found to have little effect when the widths of the lock gates and the Yeongam and Kumho connecting channels are set at the current level. The most effective way to lower the water level in Lake Yeongsan was to widen the Yeongam connecting channel, but this caused the water level in Lake Yeongam to rise. To lower the increased water level in Lake Yeongam by utilizing the water storage capacity of Lake Kumho, it was necessary to widen both the Kumho lock gate and the Kumho connecting channel. It was found that the optimum opening/shutting criterion for the Yeongam connecting channel lock gate is approximately EL.(+)0.8 m under the simulated conditions used in this study and the criterion allows of maximal lowering of the water levels in Lake Yeongam and Lake Kumho while maintaining a near-constant water level in Lake Yeongsan.

  • A reactive piloting policy for Flexible Assembly Lines (FAL) is proposed, where the sequencing of the operations as well as the assignment of tasks to manipulators are not predetermined but driven by the actual state of the FAL For all work-in-process coming from a manipulator, the next destination is determined by minimizing a temporal criterion taking into account the time needed to reach the destination, the load of the manipulator to reach, the durati on of the operation to be completed in the destination manipulator, and the availability of product components in this manipulator. The purpose of proposed piloting policy is to manufacture a given quantity of products as rapidly as possible by balancing the amount of work allocated to manipulators and to reduce the efforts required for scheduling the production of short series of diversified products. After introducing the characteristics of assembly processes and FAL modelization, the proposed algorithm is evaluated by simulations. The simulations of the proposed algorithm showed satisfactory results.

  • Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) contain limited energy resources and are left in open environments. Since these sensor nodes are self-operated, attacks such as sinkhole attacks are possible as they can be compromised by an adversary. The sinkhole attack may cause to change initially constructed routing paths, and capture of significant information at the compromised node. A localized encryption and authentication protocol (LEAP) has been proposed to authenticate packets and node states by using four types of keys against the sinkhole attack. Even though this novel approach can securely transmits the packets to a base station, the packets are forwarded along the constructed paths without checking the next hop node states. In this paper, we propose the next hop node selection method to cater this problem. Our proposed method evaluates the next hop node considering three factors (i.e., remaining energy level, number of shared keys, and number of filtered false packets). When the suitability criterion for next hop node selection is satisfied against a fix threshold value, the packet is forwarded to the next hop node. We aim to enhance energy efficiency and a detour of attacked areas to be effectively selected Experimental results demonstrate validity of the proposed method with up to 6% energy saving against the sinkhole attack as compared to the LEAP.
