QoS routing can improve network performance while providing support for QoS guarantees. These benefits, however, comes with additional routing costs such as more complex and frequent route computation and the protocol overheads to exchange dynamic network state information. Moreover, little has been done to mininize the impact of the QoS traffic to the best effort traffic or to enhance the routine Performance of the best effort traffic when QoS routing is deployed. In this paper, it is proposed that a sewer based routing mechanism, which supports the QoS routing without incurring the QoS routing protocol overhead for the network state update exchanges and enhances the performance of the best effort traffic without affecting the performance of QoS routing. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme enhances the routing performance for the QoS traffic while reducing the routing protocol overhead. The routing performance of the best traffic is also improved with virtually no impact to the routine performance of the QoS traffic. The proposed scheme is shown to be especially effective when the ratio of QoS traffic is high, that is, when the impact of the QoS traffic to the performance of best effort traffic is significant.

Bio-inspired routing protocol uses a principle of swarm intelligence, which finds the optimal path to the destination in a distributed and autonomous way in dynamic environments, so that it can maximize routing performances, reduce control overhead, and recover a path failure quickly according to the change of network topology. In this paper, we propose a bio-inspired routing protocol for mobile ad hoc networks. The proposed scheme uses a function of overhearing via wireless media in order to obtain the routing information without additional overhead. Through overhearing, the pheromone is diffused around the shortest path between the source and destination. Based on this diffused pheromone, a probabilistic path exploration is executed and the useful alternative routes between the source and destination are collected. Therefore, the proposed routing protocol can ensure the up-to-date routing information while reducing the control overhead. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the typical AODV and AntHocNet protocols in terms of routing performances and significantly decreases the routing overhead against the AntHocNet.

The hierarchical routing could cause a lot of energy consumption for transferring data by assigning hierarchical routes although actual nodes could be located in physically near spots. Also, when Node Failure or Association Error occurs, the Hierarchical routing could waste more energy to deliver the control messages. This paper evaluate performance of SHP(Shortest Hop Routing) algorithm that suggests short-cut routing algorithm using NL(Neighbor List) and Redirect_ACK message to improve problem of hierarchical routing algorithm. We do a computer simulation by the size of network, deployment of sensor nodes, sink position and POS. As a result of simulation, SHP has better performance than Zigbee Hierarchical routing and HiLow.

This paper propose a new wireless multi-hop routing protocol that takes the hierarchical mesh of the hybrid WMN into account. WMN that is possible to provide various applications of wireless networks still has many open issues that should be solved despite the studies carried out over a decade. Especially, in routing protocol area, a problem degrading the routing efficiency by applying one of the routing protocols, which are designed for the MANET, to the hybrid WMN be solved above all. For the improvement of the routing performance, both good routing protocol and metric are essential. However, the recent studies are only concentrated in routing metric by use of the cross-layer design. Therefore, this paper is dedicated to the routing protocol that is essential for the performance of the routing but needed more studies. The proposed protocol in this paper is reactive, and designed to reorganize the hybrid WMN with several pseudo domains, and carry out domain-based route decision. By the simulation result for the performance analysis of the proposed protocol, the average delay for the route decision was decreased by 43% compared to AODV that is the typical reactive protocol.

In this paper, it is necessary to study the bandwidth and network system for efficient image transmission in the current era of drone imaging, and to design routing protocols to round out and cluster two or more multi-drones. First, we want to construct an ad hoc network to control the multidrone. Several studies are underway for the clustering of drones. The aircraft ad hoc network (FANET) is an important foundation for this research. A number of routing protocols have been proposed to design a FANET, and these routing protocols show different performances in various situations and environments. The routing protocol used to design the FANET is tested using the routing protocol used in the existing mobile ad hoc network (MANET). Therefore, we will use MANET to simulate the routing protocol to be used in the FANET, helping to select the optimal routing protocol for future FANET design. Finally, this paper describes the routing protocols that are mainly used in MANET and suitable for FANET, and the performance comparison of routing protocols, which are mainly used in FANET design.

WiMedia provides the data rate of up to 1Gbps, but the transmission range is restricted to approximately 10 meters. When constructing a multi-hop WiMedia network to extend its coverage, conventional hop-based routing may not guarantee satisfactorily the required QoS. We propose two QoS routing techniques for the WiMedia-based wireless mesh network. The proopsed QoS routing reflects the characteristics of TDMA-based WiMedia MAC and develops QoS extensions separately for on-demand routing and table-driven routing. Through simulations, we identify that the QoS routing shows better performance than the hop-based routing. It also turns out that the QoS on-demand routing and the QoS table-driven routing show conflicting performance results depending on the transmission power.
Since no single routing-switching combination performs the best under various different types of applications, a flexible network is required to support a range of polices. This paper introduces an implementation of a look-up table routing engine offering flexible routing and switching polices without performance degradation unlike those based on microprocessors. By deciding contents of look-up tables, the engine can implement wormhole routing, virtual cut-through routing, and packet switching, as well as hybrid switching, under a variety of routing algorithms. Since the routing engine has a piplelined look-up table architecture, the routing delay is as small as one flit, and thus it can overlap multiple routing actions without performance degradation in comparison with hardwired routers dedicated to a specific policy. Because four pipeline stages do not induce a hazard, expensive forwarding logic is not required. The routing engine can accommodate four physical links with a time shared cut-through bus or single link with a cross-bar switch. It is implemented using Xilinx 4000 series FPGA.

This paper proposes QoS mesh routing protocol for IEEE 802.16 based wireless mesh networks. QoS mesh routing protocol proposed in this paper is a proactive hop-by-hop QoS routing protocol. The goal of our routing protocol is not only to find a route from a source to a destination, but also optimal route that satisfies QoS requirements, given in terms of bandwidth and delay as default QoS parameters. In this paper, we first analyze possible types of routing protocols that have been studied for MANET and show proactive hop-by-hop routing protocols are the most appropriate for wireless mesh networks. Then, we present a network model for IEEE 802.16 based wireless mesh networks and propose a proactive hop-by-hop QoS routing protocol. Through our simulation, we represent that our routing protocol outperforms QOLSR protocol in terms of end-to-end delay, packet delivery ratio and routing overhead.

Any server offering a routing service in the Internet would naturally be in competition for clients, and clients may need to utilize service from a specific server in order to achieve a desired result. We study the various properties of this competition, such as the fraction of route requests handled by a routing service provider and the fraction of total revenue obtained. As the routing service providers (i.e., servers or routers in this context) compete, they may alter behavior in order to optimize one of the above properties. For example, a service provider may lower the price charged for its service, in order to increase the number of clients served. Our models are based on servers offering a routing service to clients within representative network topologies based on actual Internet sub-graphs. These models provide, a framework for evaluating competition in the Internet. We monitor key aspects of the service, as several variables are introduced into the models. The first variable is the fraction of client requests that will pay more for a better quality route. The remaining requests are normal client requests that are satisfied by the most economical route. The second variable is the fraction of servers who choose to lower service prices in order to maximize the number of client requests served. As this fraction increases, it is more likely that a server will lower the price. Finally, there are some resource constraints applied to the model, to increase the difficulty in providing a routing solution, i.e., to simulate a realistic scenario. We seek to understand the effect on the overall network, as service providers compete. In simple cases, we show that this competition could have a negative impact on the overall efficiency of a service. We show that the routing variety present in the larger models is unable to mask this tendency and the routing service performance is decreased due to competition.
Geographic routing protocols are very attractive choice for routing in wireless sensor networks because they have been shown to scale better than other alternatives. Under certain ideal conditions, geographic routing works correctly and efficiently. The most commonly used geographic routing protocols include greedy forwarding coupled with face routing. Existing face routing algorithms use planarization techniques that rely on the unit-graph assumption. In real world, many conditions violate the unit-graph assumption of network connectivity, such as location errors, communication voids and radio irregularity, cause failure in planarization and consequently face routing. In this paper, we propose the direction-based geographic routing, which enables energy efficient routing under realistic conditions without planarization techniques. Our proposed approach is for the case in which many sensors need to collect data and send it to a central node. Simulation results show that the protocol exhibits superior performances in terms of energy consumption, delivery success rate, and outperforms the compared protocols.
