  • This paper describes a gait algorithm and a velocity limitation method for a Leg-Wheel Robot. The gait algorithm enables the robot to preserve continuous locomotion even if the velocity command varies extensively. The velocity limitation method restricts the commanded velocity when it exceeds the mechanical limitation of the robot. Combined use of the velocity limitation method with the gait algorithm ensures the continuity of locomotion, and makes the gait pattern efficient with a long step length and low frequency of leg phase change. These methods can be applied to locomotion on unexplored rough terrain even if the range of roughness is unknown.

  • Mobility analysis for various mobile mechanisms including mechanisms with lack of geometric generality is performed. Joint screws are employed to find the sire of feasible joint motion space or each of independent loops of mobile mechanisms. Particularly, the concept of "representative screws" is introduced to represent the feasible motion spaces for subsets of joints belonging to either a loop or a sub-system consisting of several closed loops. Firstly. simplified joint model for each of low different typical wheels popularly employed in mobile robots is described. Then. mobility analysis fir various types of planar mobile robots and the Mars Rover mobile robot for navigation on the rocky road on Mars arc performed. It is confirmed that the obtained results in this study coincide with the previous ones which were obtained by suing imaginary Joints approach(1)pproach(1)

  • In the future, most military activities will be replaced by robots. Because of many dangerous factors in battlefield, reconnaissance should be performed by robot. Reconnaissance robot should be small for not being detected, be light and simple structure for personal portability and overcome unexpected rough terrain for mission completion. In case of small and light robot, it can't get enough friction force for movement. Therefore small reconnaissance robot need jumping function for movement. In this paper we proposed a biologically inspired jumping mechanism. And we adjusted moment and jumping angle by using four bar linkage, especially varying coupler length.

  • A major concern for Autonomous Military Robot in the rough terrain is the problem of moving robot from an initial configuration to goal configuration. In this paper, We generate a local path to looking for the best route to move an goal configuration while avoiding known obstacle from world model, not violating the mobility constraints of robot. Trough a Simulator for Unmanned Autonomous Vehicle, We can simulate a traversability of unmanned autonomous vehicle based on steering, acceleration, braking command obtained from local path planning.

  • Based on recent advances in technology, many robots are developed and they are used in a hazardous environment such as military operation, fire, and building collapse and so on. Among them, reconnaissance robot should be able to perform various missions which people can not do. So it needs the capability of moving with hiding its position on rough terrain, overcoming obstacles, and guaranteeing its efficiency of reconnaissance. For this reason there are in progress of researching biomimetic robots. Therefore in this paper we proposed robot mechanism, two modules based on the screw and wheel mechanism which mimic snake, and the spiral climbing method was considered for overcoming the situation when moving on the trees.

  • Recent complex battle field demands Network Centric Warfare(NCW) ability to control various parts into a cohesive unit. In path planning filed, the NCW ability increases complexity of path planning algorithm, and it has to consider a communication coverage map as well as traditional parameters such as minimum radar exposure and survivability. In this paper, pros and cons of various propagation models are summarized, and we suggest a coverage map generation method using a Longley-Rice propagation model. Previous coverage map based on line of sight has significant discontinuities that limits selection of path planning algorithms such as Dijkstra and fast marching only. If there is method to remove discontinuities in the coverage map, optimization based path planning algorithms such as trajectory optimization and Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO) can also be used. In this paper, the Longley-Rice propagation model is used to calculate continuous RF strengths, and convert the strength data using smoothed leaky BER for the coverage map. In addition, we also suggest other types of rough coverage map generation using a lookup table method with simple inputs such as terrain type and antenna heights only. The implemented communication coverage map can be used various path planning algorithms, especially in the optimization based algorithms.

  • An unmanned surveillance robot consists of a machine gun, a laser receiver, a thermal imager, a color CCD camera, and a laser illuminator. It has two axis control systems for elevation and azimuth. Because the current robot system is mounded at a fixed post to take care of surveillance tasks, it is necessary to modify such a surveillance robot to be installed on an UGV (Unmanned Ground Vehicle) system in order to watch blind areas. Thus, it is required to have a stabilization system to compensate the disturbance from the UGV. In this paper, a simulation based design scheme has been adopted to develop a mobile surveillance robot. The 3D CAD geometry model has first been produced by using Pro-Engineer. The required pan and tilt motor capacities have been analyzed using ADAMS inverse dynamics analysis. A target tracking and stabilization control algorithm of the mobile surveillance robot has been developed in order to compensate the motion of the vehicle which will experience the rough terrain. To test the performance of the stabilization control system of the robot, ADAMS/simulink co-simulations has been carried out.

  • A tracked robot has an excellent mobility on the rough terrain. Especially, a tracked robot for driving has to get structural function in the every field. In this paper, we propose a tracked robot of a small rear wheel typed. Also compared and estimated a driving analysis about the tracked robot in considered the general environment. Compared 2 models are different in size of rear wheels but front wheels are same size each other. From comparing model, the radius of front wheels is 100mm and the radius of rear wheels is 100mm. The radius of front wheels is 100mm and the radius of rear wheels is 70mm from proposed tracked robot. Depend on these radiuses of values we are known driving torque values of an actuating wheel using Recurdyn. And estimated stress of rotated track by an actuating wheel using Ansys. finally, the designed robot has size of $600mm\;{\times}\;330mm\;{\times}\;150mm$, weight is 27kg and the tracked robot is actuated by 2 geared DC motors.
