Three-dimensional Rotordynamic Analysis Considering Bearing Support Effects (베어링 지지 효과를 고려한 3차원 로터동역학 해석)

  • In this study, three-dimensional rotordynamic analyses have been conducted using equivalent beam, hybrid and full three-dimensional models. The present computational method is based on the general finite element method with rotating gyroscopic effects of the rotor system. General purpose commercial finite element code, SAMCEF which includes practical rotordynamics module with various types of rotor analysis tools and bearing elements is applied. For the purpose of numerical verification, comparison study for a benchmark rotor model with support bearings is performed first. Detailed finite element models based on three different modeling concepts are constructed and then computational analyses are conducted for the realistic and complex three-dimensional rotor system. The results for rotor stability and mass unbalance response are presented and compared with the experimental vibration test data conducted herein.

On-Line Detection of Shorted Turn in Generator Rotor Windings (발전기 회전자 권선의 운전중 층간단락 탐지)

  • During start up and shut down, the generator is rotating at a low speed and copper dusts cause arcing between the turns in the slot. Shorted turns occurred primarily by the movement of these copper dusts between individual windings in the generator rotor. Detection of shorted turns was performed in five gas turbine generators in two combined cycle power plants. Two types of permanent and temporary flux probes were used in this paper. These flux probes have been used to develop a methodology for detecting shorted turns in an operating generator's rotor. The flux probes sense the rotor winding slot leakage flux and produce a voltage proportional to the rate of change of the flux. This pattern of flux variation is the signature unique to each rotor winding. An appropriate waveform analysis technique canidentify the pole location, the slot number, and the number of shorted turns within each slot. Shorted turns in field winding of gas turbine generator(125.7 MVA) were detected to twelve turns on al total 190 turns.

  • Through a preliminary design process, four design candidates for a 1.4MW class partial admission turbine have been chosen and the numerical analyses using a frozen rotor method are applied to estimate their performance. Each flow analysis result was compared with others and the optimum design was selected. Flow characteristics in the passages and some types of losses induced by shocks and wakes were found from calculation results. A new rotor blade was redesigned based on these calculations and this result is compared with previous one through flow analysis.

  • This paper proposes a novel 16/10 segmented rotor switched reluctance motor (SSRM) for belt-driven starter generators (BSGs). Different from conventional SRMs, the stator of the proposed SSRM consists of two types of stator poles, i.e., exciting and auxiliary poles, and the rotor is constructed from a series of discrete segments. The topology and operation principle of this proposed SSRM are illustrated firstly, and then the design rules are listed. In addition, the finite element method (FEM) is employed to get the static and dynamic characteristics of the proposed SSRM. Finally, the simulation results are presented to show the validity of the proposed SSRM for BSGs.

  • This paper presents the double side PM synchronous motor/generator for core loss reduction in flywheel energy storage system. The use of double PM rotor causes the elimination of core loss in no-load state of machine. Because flywheel rotational speed is reduced by core loss, double PM rotor is very effective in flywheel system. This paper suggests two types of double side PM rotor, Halbach magnetized array and parallel magnetized array. And characteristic comparison according to thickness of rotor back core is performed.

  • The single phase switched reluctance motor(SRM) is simpler in control circuit because the number of switching devices is fewer than the poly phase SRM. The energy density per unit volume is very big because all stator poles are excited simultaneously by a single switching power source. But it must be provided a starting device on account of not being generated the starting torque at specific rotor positions. And also it has some demerits that have a torque ripple, noise and vibration because of being excited by switching pulse power source. Therefore, to make up for these demerits, it is realized many studies for the structure design used by computer and the operating methods by power electronics technique. In this paper, we'll present the comparison of the single phase SRM with the various rotor pole face types, as like stepped rotor pole face type and general rotor pole face type.   • In this paper, a novel 12/8 segmental rotor type switched reluctance motor (SRM) is proposed. Different from conventional structures, the proposed rotor consists of a series of discrete segments, and the stator is constructed from two types of stator poles: exciting and auxiliary poles. Moreover, in this structure short flux paths are taken and no flux reverse exists in the stator. While the auxiliary poles are not wound by the windings, which only provide the flux return path. Compared with conventional 12/8 SRM, the proposed structure increases the electrical utilization of the machine and decreases the core losses, which may lead to high efficiency. To verify the proposed structure, finite element method (FEM) is employed to get static and dynamic characteristics. Finally, a prototype of the proposed motor is tested for characteristics comparisons.

  • Presented in this paper is a new method of identifying the critical speed of rotor-bearing systems without actually reaching at the critical speed itself. Using the method, it is not only possible to calculate the critical speed by measuring a series of rotor responses at much lower rotating speeds away from and without reaching at the critical speeds but also the damping ratio and eccentricity of the system can be identified at the same time. Two types of test rotors were tested on the Rotor Dynamics Test Facility at the Rotordyn-amics Lab, KIMM, and the theory has been confirmed experimentally. The method can be adopted to monitor changes of the dynamic characteristics of critical rotating machinery before and after overhauls, repairs, exchanges of various parts, or to detect trends of direction of subtle changes in the dynamic characteristic parameters over a long periods of time.
