  • Relapse following rotational movement of the tooth is a common problem in orthodontic practice. To overcome such relapse, many procedures have been advocated: prolonged retention, permanent retention, over-rotation, rotation of teeth at an early age, surgical procedures such as gingivectomy, redressement force, septotomy, et cetra. A 23-year-old woman presented with Angle's Class I malocclusion and extreme rotation of maxillary central incisors. After 15 months' active therapy, septotomy was performed on maxillary central incisors and Howley retainer was applicated for the purpose of overcoming rotational relapse. During the 1 year post-operative observation, negligible, if any, rotational relapse occurred.

  • The dampness by treating the surface with polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film was measured to grasp the plasma parameters and was observed the surface condition with an atomic force microscope (AFM) to find the causes of the dampness. Also, the vibrational and rotational temperatures in the plasma were calculated after identifying the radicals within the plasma by analyzing the emission spectral with an emission spectrum. The hydrophilic properties were enhanced, by treating the surface of the PET film with non-equilibrium atmospheric discharge plasma. When the rotational temperature was 0.22 to 0.31 eV within the plasma, surface modification control could be easily carried out to surface treatment of PET film on non-equilibrium atmospheric pressure plasma.

  • We present a Brownian molecular dynamics computer simulation method for calculating the rotational viscosity of the liquid crystal mixture comprising pentylcyanobiphenol (5CB) and decylcyanobiphenol (10CB). Mean director of the ensemble has been used as a nematic director. Results show a good agreement with experimental ones [Sudeshna DasGupta et al., Physics Letters A 306(2003)235-242].

  • In recent years, as the demands of VBNS(Very high speed Backbone Network Service) and VDSL(Very high-data rate Digital Subscriber Line) increase, the development of kernel parts of optical communication such as PLC(Planar Light Circuit), Coupler, WDM elements increase. The alignment and the attachment technology are very important to fabricate the optical elements for communication. In this paper, the mechanism of rotational stage are studied. with the three different method and the results of them are applied to the design of the system. The performance test of resolution and travel is performed.

  • The cutting characteristics of hardened steel(AISI 52100) by PCBN tools is investigated with respect to cutting force, workpiece surface roughness and tool flank wear by the vision system. Hard Owning is carried out with various cutting conditions; spindle rotational speed, depth of cut and feed rate. Backpropagation neural networks(BPNs) are used for detection of tool wear. The input vectors of neural network comprise of spindle rotational speed, feed rates, vision flank wear, and thrust force signals. The output is the tool wear state which is either usable or failure. The detection of the abnormal states using BPNs achieves $96.8\%$ reliability even when the spindle rotational speed and feedrate are changed.

  • The present study numerically investigates three-dimensional laminar flow past a rotating circular cylinder placed in a uniform stream. For the purpose of a careful analysis of the modification of flow by the effect of the rotation on the flow, numerical simulations are performed at a various range of rotational speeds($0{\leq}{\alpha}{\leq}2.5$) at one Reynolds number of 300. As $\alpha$ increases, flow becomes stabilized and finally a steady state beyond the critical rotational speed. The 3D (three dimensional) wake mode of the stationary cylinder defined at this Reynolds number has been disorganized according to $\alpha$, which were observed by the visualization of 3D vortical structures. The variation of the Strouhal number is significant when the wake pattern is changed according to the rotational speed. As $\alpha$ increases, the lift increases, whereas the drag decreases.

  • The purpose of this research is to study on the heat transfer characteristics of separate type heat pipe with a rotor. The heat transfer characteristics of the rotor condenser are various on input heat of evaporator, rotational speeds of rotor, and working fluid amount. The results obtained from the study are as follows. 1. Magnetic fluid using seal of the rotor operated in stability by a variation of temperature and rotation speeds. The configuration of magnetic fluid seal assembly was adequate. 2. Steam ejector is effective in recovering working fluid condensate in the rotor. When steam ejector is operating, the heat flux of working fluid does not change, with the wall temperature in the rotor. 3. The optimum design conditions on working fluid amount and rotational speeds are effective in evaporator volume 50%, rotational speeds 200rpm, 300rpm, and operating temperature $80^{\circ}C$. With working fluid amount increasing, overall heat transfer coefficient decreases linearly.

  • The importance of rotational transitions in the vibrational deexcitation of HF(1${\rightarrow}$0) in HF+Ar collisions has been investigated by a semiclassical three-dimensional approach. Because of the inclusion of rotational transitions, this study gives vibrational transition probabilities which are very large compared to results of conventional vibration-to-translation energy transfer theories. Currently available experimental studies suggest that this effect is important and has to be included in rigorous calculations.

  • This paper proposes a real-time technique for simulating large rotational deformations. Modal analysis based on a linear strain tensor has been shown to be suitable for real-time simulation, but is accurate only for moderately small deformations. In the present work, we identify the rotational component of an infinitesimal deformation, and extend linear modal analysis to track that component. We then develop a procedure to integrate the small rotations occurring al the nodal points. An interesting feature of our formulation is that it can implement both position and orientation constraints in a straightforward manner. These constraints can be used to interactively manipulate the shape of a deformable solid by dragging/twisting a set of nodes, Experiments show that the proposed technique runs in real-time even for a complex model, and that it can simulate large bending and/or twisting deformations with acceptable realism.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a computer simulation program for analyzing load transmission characteristics of a helical gear system in design stage. In this analysis, the rotational delay, load distribution, root stress, and contact area are investigated. That is, the influence function of deflection is obtained by finite element analysis and the influence function of approach and gear tooth error are considered. Load distribution, rotational delay, and contact area are calculated by solving load-deflection equation which includes these influence functions and tooth error, and the influence function of the bending moment is obtained by finite element analysis. The root stress is calculated by the load distribution and the influence function of the bending moment. The results of the simulation are cross-checked through a specially designed experimental set-up.
