  • In this paper, we propose a 3D view design scheme which arranges 2D information in a 3D virtual space with a flexible interface and voice information. The scheme allows the user interface of the 2D image in 3D virtual space anytime from any view point. Voice information can be easily attached. It is this simple and efficient image and voice information arrangement in 3D virtual space that improves information transfer.

  • This study deals with the unbalance response of a rotor of Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) due to unbalanced mass. The method to analyze SRM with rotor-bearing system is based on an extension of the well-known Transfer Matrix Method(TMM). Most of the calculation results present the natural frequencies as a function of the speed of rotation which yields critical speeds and response to unbalanced mass.

  • An incremental Total Lagrangian Formulation is implemented for the finite element analysis of laminated composite pressure vessel with consideration of the material and geometric nonlinearities. For large displacements/large rotations due to geometric nonlinearities, the incremental equations are derived using a quadratic approximation for the increment of the reference vectors in terms of the nodal rotation increments. This approach leads to a complete tangent stiffness matrix. For material nonlinearity, the analysis is performed by using the piecewise linear method, taking account of the nonlinear shear stress-strain relation. The results of numerical tests include the large deflection behavior of the selected composite shell problem. When compared with the previous analysis, tile results are in good agreement with them. As a practical example, filament wound pressure vessel is analyzed with consideration of the geometrically and materially nonlinearity. The numerical results agree fairly well with the existing experimental results.

  • The spatially coupled buckling, in-plane, and lateral bucking analyses of thin-walled Timoshenko curved beam with non-symmetric, double-, and mono-symmetric cross-sections resting on elastic foundation are performed based on series solutions. The stiffness matrices are derived rigorously using the homogeneous form of the simultaneous ordinary differential equations. The present beam formulation includes the mechanical characteristics such as the non-symmetric cross-section, the thickness-curvature effect, the shear effects due to bending and restrained warping, the second-order terms of semitangential rotation, the Wagner effect, and the foundation effects. The equilibrium equations and force-deformation relationships are derived from the energy principle and expressions for displacement parameters are derived based on power series expansions of displacement components. Finally the element stiffness matrix is determined using force-deformation relationships. In order to verify the accuracy and validity of this study, the numerical solutions by the proposed method are presented and compared with the finite element solutions using the classical isoparametric curved beam elements and other researchers' analytical solutions.

  • We present an application of digital video images for object tracking. In order to track a fixed object, which was shoot on a moving vehicle, this study develops a shape-based matching algorithm to implement the tracking task. Because the shape-based matching algorithm has scale and rotation invariant characteristics, therefore it can be used to calculate the similarity between two variant shapes. An experiment is performed to track the ship object in the open sea. The result shows that the proposed method can track the object in the video images even the shape change largely.

  • SiC particulate reinforced Al matrix composites with different SiC volume fractions were fabricated by thermal spray process. And the dry sliding wear test were performed on these composites using the applied load of 10 N, rotational speed of 30 rpm, radius of rotation 15 mm. Wear tracks on the Al/SiC composites were investigated using scanning electron microscope(SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). It was observed that wear behavior of Al/SiC composites and formation of MML was changed dramatically according to reinforcement volume fraction.

  • Dynamical behaviors of one-dimensional (1D) nano-sized structures are of great importance in nanotechnology applications. Therefore, the torsional dynamic response of functionally graded nanorods which could be used to model the nano electromechanical systems or micro electromechanical systems with torsional motion about the center of twist is examined based on the theory of strain gradient nonlocal elasticity in this work. The mathematical background is constructed based on both strain gradient theory and Eringen's nonlocal elasticity theory. The equation of motions and boundary conditions of radially functionally graded nanorods are derived using Hamilton's principle and then transformed into the eigenvalue analysis by using Fourier sine series. A general coefficient matrix is obtained to assemble the Stokes' transformation. The case of a restrained functionally graded nanorod embedded in two elastic springs against torsional rotation is then deeply investigated. The effect of changing the functionally graded index, the stiffness of elastic boundary conditions, the length scale parameter and nonlocal parameter are investigated in detail.

  • The objective of this study was to develop a scale to measure stress in infertile couples and to test its reliability and validity. Prior to item generation, a basic decision was made to conceptualize stress in infertile couples as including two dimensions and four subdimensions. The dimensions were, intrapersonal stress including cognitive and affective stress, and interpersonal stress including marital and social stress. Initially 95 items were generated from the inter-view data of 31 primary or secondary infertile women and from a literature review. These items were analyzed through the Index of Content Validity(CVI) and 69 items were selected which met 70% or more of the CVI. This preliminary Infertility Stress Scale were analyzed for reliability and construct validity. Item analysis and factor analysis were applied for construct validity. Forty items were selected through item analysis. This procedure was based on the inter-item correlation matrix, a corrected average inter-item correlation coefficient(.30~.70), a corrected item to total correlation coefficient (.03 or more) and information about the alpha estimate if this item was dropped from the scale. The result of the initial factor analysis including varimax rotation produced eight factors. Five items deleted because of factor complexity(indiscriminate factor loadings). The secondary factor analysis including varimax rotation produced seven factors that coincided with the conceptual framework posed for the scale developed. The seven factors were labeled as ‘meaning of children’,‘worthiness’,‘tenacious linking’,‘marital satisfaction’,‘sexual satisfaction’,‘familial adjustment’ and ‘social adjustment’. The alpha coefficient relating to internal consistency was .93 for reliability The results of this study suggest that the measurement derived from the Infertility Stress Scale is useful in assessing the stress of infertile couples.

  • Red tide is a temporary natural phenomenon involving harmful algal blooms (HABs) in company with a changing sea color from normal to red or reddish brown, and which has a bad influence on coast environments and sea ecosystems. The HABs have inflicted massive mortality on fin fish and shellfish, damaging the economies of fisheries for almost every year from 1990 in South Korea. There have been many studies on red tide due to increasing damage from red tide on fishing and aquaculture industry. However, internal study of automatic red tide image classification is not enough. Especially, extraction of matching center features for recognizing algae image object is difficult because over 200 species of algae in the world have a different size and features. Previously studies used a few type of red tide algae for image classification. In this paper, we proposed the red tide image recognition method using NMF and revison of rotation angle for enhancing of recognition of red tide algae image.

  • We Propose a new feature normalization scheme based on eigenspace for achieving robust speech recognition. In general, mean and variance normalization (MVN) is Performed in cepstral domain. However, another MVN approach using eigenspace was recently introduced. in that the eigenspace normalization Procedure Performs normalization in a single eigenspace. This Procedure consists of linear PCA matrix feature transformation followed by mean and variance normalization of the transformed cepstral feature. In this method. 39 dimensional feature distribution is represented using only a single eigenspace. However it is observed to be insufficient to represent all data distribution using only a sin91e eigenvector. For more specific representation. we apply unique na independent eigenspaces to cepstra, delta and delta-delta cepstra respectively in this Paper. We also normalize training data in eigenspace and get the model from the normalized training data. Finally. a feature space rotation procedure is introduced to reduce the mismatch of training and test data distribution in noisy condition. As a result, we obtained a substantial recognition improvement over the basic eigenspace normalization.
