  • This paper suggests the noise reduction method of the engine cooling fan. It was estimated the fannoise contribution at the engine room and identified the noise source at the rotating fan by sound intensity method, first. And it has been developed the program for predicting the noise spectrum of axial flow fan. The radiated acoustic pressure is expressed the discrete frequency noise peaks at BPF and its harmonics and the line spectrum at the broad band by the noise generation mechanisms. In this paper it is shown that the comparison of the measuted and calculaed noise spectra of fn for the validation of the noise predictiong program. And this paper presents the characteristics of a fan noise due to modify the design parameters. Accordingly, it was obtained the design parameter values for noise reduction of fan.

  • A circular CAV damper has been developed, based on the investigation of the pressure loss, and the flow-resisting moment by the damper blade. When a torsional spring is attached to the damper axle, and the setting angle is adjusted to around $82^{\circ}$, the volume rate across the damper is almost independent of the static pressure. Such a CAV characteristic appears at an opening angle between $40^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$, where the normalized moment decreases linearly with the angle. In addition, by adjusting the setting angle, the volume rate can be controlled to within 10% error, regardless of the pressure loss.

  • PURPOSES: In this study the influence factors related to abrasion resistance of interlocking concrete block have been evaluated, and comparisons between various domestic and foreign abrasion test methods was also accomplished. METHODS: The modified rotational cutting method suggested in ASTM C 944 was applied. Surface materials with different types of fine aggregate such as crushed sand, sea sand, and mixture of crushed and sea sand were tested to compare the aggregate effect for abrasion resistance. RESULTS: The different surface mixtures with various W/C ratios, mortar and fly ash ratios have been investigated for functional and economical considerations. CONCLUSIONS: This study had obtained reliable results by changing diamond blade of rotating cutter. Therefore, in order to improve the abrasion resistance of interlocking concrete block for road, a new mix design was proposed.

  • The aim of this paper is to develop a GUI based software that can predict the flow and noise generated by fan. This user-friendly software is designed for the usual fan user in the various industrial companies as well as researcher related to rotating blade:;. Software consists of 3-modules; (1) concept design and performance prediction module using simple and fast methods, (2) preliminary design and flow/noise prediction module using free-wake potential solver and acoustic analogy and (3) detail design module using accurate CFD-software and acoustic formula. Some validations and applications in various fields are described.

  • Computational and experimental investigations on the three-dimensional flowfield through an automotive cooling fan are carried out in this work. Steady, incompressible, three-dimensional, turbulent flow through a rotating axial-flow fan is analyzed with Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equations and standard k-.epsilon. turbulence model. The governing equations are discretized with finite-volume approximations in non-orthogonal curvilinear coordinates. Computational static pressures on the casing wall agree well with the experimental data which are measured in this work. And, they are sensitive to the change of tip clearance. The flowfield is not significantly affected by the thickness of the blade. The k-.omega. model gives the static pressure rise on the casing wall which is similar to that with the k-.epsilon. model.

  • A numerical study based on the three-dimensional Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equations is presented to analyze the transonic flowfield through two-stage axial compressor. Explicit four-step Runge-Kutta scheme is used for solution algorithm, and local time step and implicit residual averaging are introduced for enhancing the convergency. Artificial dissipation model is adopted to assure the stability of solution. The solver is coupled with Baldwin-Lomax model to describe turbulence. To avoid calculating the unsteady flow, a mixing process is modeled at a station between rotating and stationary blade rows. Results show a variety of important physical phenomena. Comparison of the flowfields with and without tip clearance shows that the effect is considerable in this flowfield. Comparisons with experimental data carried out to validate the calculational results show reasonable agreements. Some remedies are also suggested to improve the revealed problems.

  • Many suggestions is offered to resolve global warming. Tidal current generation is producing power by switched tidal difference sea water horizontal fluid flow produced by tidal difference using rotor and generator. So, change the angle of inflow condition due to the entrance of efficiency are considered. We therefore investigated three dimensional flow analysis and performance evaluation using commercial ANSYS-CFX code for horizontal axis turbine. Then We also studied three dimensional flow characteristics of a rotating rotor and blade surface streamlines around a rotor. As a result, Cp was highest at TSR 5.5, especially the larger changes in the angle of inflow condition decreased efficiency.

  • A gas turbine blade has an internal cooling passage equipped with ribs, which can be modeled as a ribbed channel. We have studied a flow inside a ribbed channel using large eddy simulaton (LES) with a dynamic subgrid-scale model. The simulation results are compared with the experimental ones. The turbulence intensity and local heat transfer near the rib have not been well captured by the conventional Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes simulation (RANS). However, these variables obtained by the present LES agree well with those from experiments. From the instantaneous velocity and temperature fields, we explain the mechanisms responsible for the local peaks in the heat transfer distribution along the channel wall. We have also investigated the effect of rotation on the flow and heat transfer in the ribbed channel.

  • A circular plate is the main part of a circular saw blade, which is widely used in industrial cutting tools. In experiments using a circular saw containing slots, we observed that a number of natural frequencies are simultaneously emerged in specific frequency regions. The interesting phenomenon is called the frequency convergence. Effects of design parameters such as the number, the length and the width of slots, on the frequency-convergence phenomenon are analyzed by FEM simulations using ALGOR. The frequency-convergence phenomenon will be intensified when the number, length and width of slots increase.

  • The objective of this research is to suggest the noise prediction method of the centrifugal compressor. It is focused on the Blade Passing Frequency (BPF) component which is regarded as the main part of the rotating impeller noise. Euler solver is used to simulate the flow-field of the centrifugal compressor and time-dependent pressure data are calculated to perform the near-field noise prediction by Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings (FW-H) formulation. Indirect Boundary Element Method (IBEM) is applied to consider the noise propagation effect. Pressure fluctuations of the inlet and the outlet in the centrifugal compressor impeller are presented and Sound Pressure Level (SPL) prediction results are compared with the experimental data.
