  • The general dicing process cuts a semiconductor wafer to lengthwise and crosswise direction by using a rotating circular diamond blade. However, inferior goods may be made under the influence of several parameters in dicing process such as blade, wafer, cutting water and cutting conditions. Moreover we can not apply this dicing method to a GaN wafer, because the GaN wafer is harder than other wafers such as SiO$_2$, GaAs, GaAsP, and AlGaAs. In order to overcome this problem, development of a new dicing process and determination of dicing parameters are necessary. This paper describes determination of several parameters - scribing depth, scribing force, scriber inclined angle, scribing speed, and factor for scriber replacement - for a new dicing machine using a scriber.

  • This paper describes the influence of geometric parameters on the noise generation from a centrifugal compressor. From the analysis of noise measurements, it is observed that Blade Passing Frequency noise related to the rotating impeller is more important, and it is focused on the comparison of this discrete frequency noise according to the shape change. Navier-Stokes solver is used to simulate the flow-field of the impeller and the vaned diffuser, and time-dependent pressure data are calculated and Fourier-transformed to perform the near-field noise prediction. The effects of various geometry design variables such as the gap between the impeller and the diffuser, impeller shape variations on the near-field noise distribution are investigated.

  • Tidal current power system is one of ocean renewable energies that can minimize the environmental impact with many advantages compared to other energy sources. Not like others, the produced energy can be precisely predicted without weather conditions and also the operation rate is very high. To convert the current into power, the first device encountered to the incoming flow is the rotor that can transform into rotational energy. The performance of rotor can be determined by various design parameters including numbers of blade, sectional shape, diameter, and etc. The stream lines near the rotating rotor is very complex and the interference effects around the system is also difficult to predict. This paper introduces the experiment of rotor performance and also the effect of design parameter on the performance of HAT rotor by CFD.

  • Flow patterns were measured in an unshrouded centrifugal impeller. The flow rate in measurements was fixed at the value corresponding to a nearly zero incidence at the blade inlet. By using a single slanted hot-wire probe and a Kiel probe mounted on the impeller hub disk, the 3-D relative velocities and the rotary stagnation pressures were measured in seven circumferential planes from the inlet to the outlet of the impeller rotating at 700rpm, which diameter is 0.39 meter, and the static pressures and the slip factor at the impeller outlet were calculated from the measured values. From the measured data, the primary/secondary flows, the leakage flows, the wake-jet flows, static pressure distribution on blade surfaces and the wake production mechanism in the impeller passage were investigated.

  • The objective of this research is to suggest anoise prediction method for a centrifugal compressor. It is focused on the Blade Passing Frequency component which is regarded as the main part of the rotating impeller noise. Navier-Stokes solver is used to simulate the flow-field of the centrifugal compressor, and the time-dependent pressure data are calculated to perform the near-field noise prediction by using Ffowcs Williams - Hawkings formulation. Indirect Boundary Element Method is applied to consider the noise propagation effect. Pressure fluctuations of the inlet and the outlet in the centrifugal compressor impeller are presented and the sound pressure level prediction results are compared with the experimental data.

  • This paper describes the performance test procedures and results of NRSB-1M and NRSB-2M Not only aerodynamic performance test but also sound measurement test were performed for the small-scaled blades in the ground Total thrusts and torques of the rotor were measured using rotating balance for aerodynamic performance test. Sound pressure levels were measured using microphone in 1.64D distance for sound measurement test. Non-dimensionalized test data are compared and analyzed. Consequently, It was confirmed that NRSB-2 was better than NRSB-1.

  • This paper reports a numerical method for determining the resistance and self-propulsion performance of an asymmetric pre-swirl stator used as an energy saving device by cancelling a propeller's rotational energy. The present asymmetric pre-swirl stator propulsion system consists of three blades at the port and one blade at the starboard, which can effectively recover the biased rotating flow. This paper provides the design concept for the present asymmetric stator, which produces more efficient results than a conventional propeller.

  • Centrifugal blowers are widely used for air handling units in industry applications. The blower has a centrifugal impeller and a scroll casing including a driving component such as an electric motor. The impeller takes forward or backward blades to induce flows into the blower. Comprehensive investigation according to the two kinds of blades is systematically carried out for a guidance of design. It is observed that flow rate of the blower with forward blades is larger than that of the system with backward blades. The reason is due to larger velocity from the rotating forward blades and the tendency is validated by a parallel experiment with a wind tunnel. Numerical analysis for the system shows detail information inside the blades and the casing. A series of figures to show the flow details offers deep understanding of a centrifugal blower with different blades.

  • Mixers are used in various industrial fields where it is necessary to intimately mix two reactants in a short period of time. However, despite their widespread use, complex unsteady flow characteristics of industrial mixers are not systematic investigated. The present study aimed to clarify unsteady flow characteristics induced by various impellers in a tank. Impellers are pitched blade turbine and neo-hydrofoil turbine types. A high speed CCD camera and an Ar-Ion laser for illumination were adopted to clarify the time-dependent flow characteristics of the mixers. The rotating speed of impellers increased from 6Hz to 60Hz by 6Hz. The maximum velocity around PBT impeller is higher than the hydrofoil type impeller. These two types of turbine shows that typical flow characteristics of axial turbine and suitable for mixing high -viscosity materials.
