자주식 심토환경 개선기 개발(1) - 과수원의 토양 다짐 특성 및 심토 관리 실태 - (Development of Self-propelled Explosive Subsoiler (1) - Present Status of Soil Compaction and Subsoil Management in Orchard -)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the present status of subsoil compaction, and subsoil compaction management in orchard as a basic study for developing a self-propelled explosive subsoiler. Subsoil compaction was evaluated using the soil penetration resistance. Soil cone index was measured using the DIK 5520 type cone penetrometer in several fruit farms such as apple, pear, peach and grapes during growing seasons of these fruit in Jecheon, Gamgok, Choongju, Cheonan and Hwasung areas. Most of the subsoil managing machinery were either explosive type or digging type attached to the tractor or power tiller and turning radius of this machine was more than 3-5 m. Many of the farmers wanted to use the subsoiler which can put lime into soil and rupture soil at the same time. For most of the orchard fields, soil penetration resistance in vehicle traffic area was increased quickly and reached about 1.0 MPa in 5 cm soil depth. As the soil depth increased to 15-20 cm, cone penetration resistance reached about 2.0-2.5 MPa which restricted root growth seriously. Thus it was concluded that one of the main reason for increasing the soil compaction in orchard fields is agricultural vehicle traffic. In the vicinity of fruit trees, compaction is not so serious compared to that of the vehicle traffic area, but as the soil depth increased to 20-25 cm, in most of the orchard fields soil penetration resistance reached about 2.0-2.5 MPa which is the root growth-limiting value. Considering the rooting depth of fruit trees which ranged 30-60 cm for apple, pear and peach, and 20-30 cm for grape, it is necessary to loosen the subosoil and improve the subsoil conditions using subsoiler.

생태복원용 식물매트 개발에 관한 기초연구 (A Basic Study on the Development of the Plant-Mat for Ecological Restoration)

  • This study was conducted to develop the plant-mat for ecological restoration which was formed as the thin multi-layers of woven nets, soil media, seeds, etc. The experimental site was selected at a slope of 240$m^2$ at the rear of Design College of Sangmyung University and divided into 8 sub-experimental plots (20$m^2$ each) according to mat types. (forest-type and grass-type mats with and without seed attachment, respectively) Also, the existing vegetation plot and the no-treatment plot were included in this experiment for comparison. The experiment construction was conducted on September 3, 2002. Mat covered plots regardless of seed attachment showed nearly no signs of erosion even if rainy season in summer compared to the no-treatment plot. Vegetation monitoring result showed that germination rates were somewhat high in both forest and grass-type mats without seed attachment in the initial germination stage. Although germination rates of seed attached mats were somewhat slower than non-seed attached mats in the germination stage, but over time, it showed a good rooting and shooting environment for germinated tree and grass species because of soil media existence within the mat. This indicates that while non seed-attached mats require follow-up maintenance, seed-attached mats does not require maintenance after rooting and germination.

Development of Zygotic Embryos and Seedlings is Affected by Radiation Spectral Compositions from Light Emitting Diode (LED) System in Chestnut (Castanea crenata S. et Z.)

  • Among the environmental conditions employed in micropropagation, light quality plays an important role in growth, specially morphogenesis and photosynthesis. The effect of radiation quality (350-740 nm) on the development and growth of zygotic embryos and in vitro plantlets of open-pollinated chestnut (Castanea crenata S. et Z.) were studied. Two types of explants were exposed for 4 weeks to cool white (W, as control), monochromatic red (R, peak emission 650 nm), monochromatic blue (B, peak emission 440 nm), red+blue (R+B, 1:1), or red+far-red (R+Fr, 1:1, far-red peak emission 720 nm) radiation from a light-emitting-diode (LED) system. While the zygotic embryos showed positive photoblastic behavior, their germination was inhibited by blue radiation. Hypocotyl elongation and root development were promoted by red radiation. The emergence of primary leaf and its expansion were faster under blue than under red radiation. In the plantlets, red and red+far-red radiation significantly increased the formation and growth of the root, whereas blue light reduced rooting. Therefore, radiation quality appears to influence some steps in the development of zygotic embryos and plantlets in the chestnut.

낙엽송(落葉松)의 삽목발근(揷木發根)에 관련된 물질(物質) 및 발근과정(發根過程) (Initial Root Development of Larix leptolepis Gordon Cuttings as Related to Organic Substances and Cutting Date)

  • 낙엽송(Larix leptolepis Gordon)의 삽목발근에 관련된 제(諸) 요인(要因)을 구명하기 위하여 녹지삽목 시기인 7월 10일을 전후해서 6월 24일부터 7월 25일까지 일주일 간격으로 5주간 삽수를 채취하여 삽수내 수분함량, 탄수화물함량, 무기물함량을 조사하고, IAA 함량은 2주일 간격으로 3회 조사하였으며, 십목 후 매주 삽수를 굴취하여 뿌리 발달과정을 조사하였다. 클론 별 IAA 함량에서는 발근이 잘되는 클론이 발근 어려운 클론의 삽수 생중량 g당 평균 $1.26{\mu}g$에 비하여 $1.31{\mu}g$으로 다소 많은 경향을 나타내었다. 녹지삽목의 적절한 시기로 판단되는 7월 8일에서 15일 사이 삽수의 수분 함량은 발근 잘되는 클론이나 그렇지 안은 클론 각각의 수분함량은 76%, 75%로 조사되었다. 갱생기(更生枝)(hedged branch) 삽수(揷穗)의 탄수화물, 인산, 질소 함량은 각각 19.8%, 0.61%, 1.87%로 처리하지 않은 비교목(比較木) 삽수(揷穗)의 13.8%, 0.41%, 1.42%에 비하여 함량이 많았다. 탄수화물의 함량과 C/N율도 갱생지의 삽수가 비교목의 삽수보다 높았다. 클론간 탄수화물의 함량은 삽목 시기인 7월 8일 과 15일에 발근이 우수한 클론은 16.2%와 12.6%인데 비하여 발근 불량한 클론은 10.2%와 7.8%로 우수클론이 비교적 많은 경향을 보였다. C/N율도 삽목 시기부터 발근이 우수한 클론에서 높은 값을 보였다. 무기성분의 경우 $Mg^{{+}{+}}$, $K^+$, $Ca^{{+}{+}}$은 발근 불량클론이 많았으나 인산은 발근 우수클론이 많았다. 낙엽송 삽목(揷木) 발근(發根)에 관여(關與)하는 물질(物質)은 특정한 한가지 물질에 의하여 좌우하는 것이 아니라 탄수화물, 질소, C/N율, K/C율, 인산 등의 여러 가지 물질이 복합적으로 관여하는 것으로 판단된다. 원근기(原根基)가 나타나는 시기는 삽목 1주일 후부터이며 그 위치는 대부분의 사부조직 이지만 극히 일부는 캘러스 조직에서도 관찰되었다. 근기(根基)는 대개 2주 후부터 관찰되었고 새로운 뿌리로의 발달은 빠르면 3주 후에 삽수의 표피 외부로 나타나고 대개 삽목 5주 후부터 뿌리로 발달되었다.

홉(Humulus lupulus L.) 도입 품종의 생육특성 및 영양번식 연구 (Studies on Growth Characteristics and Propagation Method of Introduced Hop (Humulus lupulus L.) Cultivars)

  • 국내 홉 생산은 외국산 수입으로 1990년대 초반 이후 중단된 상태이나, 최근 수제맥주 붐의 영향으로 국내 생산에 대한 관심이 고조되고 있다. 본 연구는 국내 홉 생산 및 육종을 위한 기반연구로 외국산 도입 홉 6개 품종을 대상으로 생육특성 및 증식기술 개발중심으로 수행하였다. 2021년과 2022년 진행한 홉 생육조사에서 재식 후 4년차보다 5년차에서 일반적으로 홉의 착화고, 착화수, 구화의 크기와 무게가 증가하는 경향을 나타냈다. 홉 삽목 실험의 결과, 일반적으로 발근제 '아토닉' 처리를 하지 않은 물꽂이에서도 전체 평균 발근율이 88%로 높았지만 아토닉을 침지하거나 희석하여 관주할 경우 발근율이 93%로 증가하는 경향을 나타냈다. 아토닉 처리 방법에 따른 발근력과 발근율에는 품종간 차이가 있었다. 발근 삽목묘를 상토 이식 후 생존율을 확인 하였을 때, 조직배양실에서 삽목한 것이 온실에서 삽목한 것에 비해 상당히 생존율이 떨어졌다. 따라서 홉 삽목시에는 물꽂이 만으로도 높은 삽목 성공률을 얻을 수 있으며, 상토 이식 후 식물체를 안정적으로 관리하는 기술 개발이 홉 대량증식에서 중요할 것으로 판단된다. 조직배양 기술을 통해 홉을 증식할 땐 IAA 0.1 ㎎/L에 BAP 1 ㎎/L 보다 TDZ 1 ㎎/L를 첨가하여 배양하는 것이 다경유도에 효과적이다. 이러한 삽목 및 조직배양 증식과 순화 기술을 정립하면, 국내 홉 건전묘 생산에 활용이 가능할 것으로 생각된다.

갈대 줄기의 마디부 발근을 이용한 뗏장 식물섬 개발 (Development of Floating-Islands with a Sod Mat by Shooting and Rooting from Shoot Nodes of Common Reed)

  • The community of common reed (Phragmites australis) is expanded by the development of new shoots from nodes of rhizomes and old shoots in natural environments. We developed the useful technique to construct reed mats of floating islands developed from shoot nodes of reeds for the purpose of the rapid stabilization of vegetation and the application of adapted plants with their specific environmental conditions. The vegetation development was compared in the floating islands planted with the different reed samples. The reed samples were consisted of four types : long shoot in the length of 100 cm (AG I), short shoot of 15 cm (AG II), long rhizome of 100 cm (BG I) and short rhizome of 15 cm (BG II). Shooting started earlier in BG I and BG II than in AG I and AG II. But the rate of shooting was higher in AG I and AG II than in BG I and BG II. After four weeks, AG I and AG II were higher than BG I and BG II in the biomass and density of newly developed shoots. These results showed that the construction of sod mats by planting only reed shoots was a useful technique to develop vegetation on the floating islands.

Elimination of SPFMV from Virus-infected Sweet Potato Plants through Apical Meristem Culture

  • Sweet potato infected with a viral disease (SPFMV) showed irregular chlorotic patterns, so called feathering associated with faint or distinct ring spots that have purple-pigmented borders. SPFMV was eliminated from sweet potato plants using meristem tip culture. MS medium supplemented with BAP (2mg/L) and NAA (0.05 mg/L) was used for shoot proliferation and 1/2 MS medium for rooting of the plants. Highest percentage of regenerated plants (60%) was obtained from the optimum size (0.3-0.5mm) meristem tips. Of these, 60% plants were found negative for SPFMV by RT-PCR. Virus detection by RT-PCR was found to be a reliable method. Meristem-tip culture to produce SPFMV-free quality sweet potato and virus detection by RT-PCR is an efficient, time saving and reliable method for production of SPFMV-free tissue culture raised plants.

Economy analysis of cost required for organic rice cultivation in two cultivation techniques

  • The initial investment of rice cultivation by mechanical technique was high. This was only due to the cost of planting machine. We analysed the overall cost (without machine cost) and benefits of the two methods, it manifested that the mechanical method is very much beneficial over traditional rice cultivation technique. We observed that the requirement of soil, irrigation water, number of seeds etc. decreased in mechanical cultivation technique while net income increase by 13.07% with 80% government subsidy. Furthermore, the initial rooting was quicker, growth and development of pot raised seedlings was better than the traditional technique. Hence, this technique can give better return to the farmers with the help of government subsidy.

Temperature-dependent Differences in Heading Response at Different Growth Stages of Rice

  • There is an increasing frequency in the occurrence of abnormal weather phenomena such as sharp increases and decreases in temperature. Under these weather conditions, the heading time of rice changes unexpectedly, which poses problems in agriculture. Therefore, we investigated the effect of temperature on the heading response at different growth stages in rice. During the period from transplanting to heading, the plants were subjected to different temperature treatments, each for a 9-day period, to observe the heading response. For the heading date analysis, "heading date" was defined as the number of days from transplanting to the appearance of the first spikelet. We found that the influence of temperature increased in the order of rooting stage, followed by meiosis, early tillering, spikelet differentiation, and panicle initiation stage in all ecological types and cultivars. In particular, unlike the results reported previously, the effect of temperature on heading during the photo-sensitive period was very small. Meanwhile, the influence of temperature on vegetative growth response at different growth stages was not consistent with heading response. These results can be used as basic data for predicting the variation in heading date owing to temperature variation at each growth stage. In addition, we propose that the concept of day length should be included in determining the influence of temperature on the photo-sensitive period.

The Control Efficacy of Sodium Hypochlorite against Violet Root Rot Caused by Helicobasidium mompa in Apple

  • Our study was carried out to determine the control efficacy of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) for violet root rot caused by Helicobasidium mompa in apple. The experiment was conducted in the farm located at Chungbuk province in South Korea from 2014 to 2016. When infected apple trees were treated at least two or three times with 31.25 and 62.5 ml/l available chlorine content in NaOCl, it greatly increased the rooting of rootstock, and restored the tree crown density by 44.4-60.5%. In addition, the number of commercial fruit setting was increased by 54.3-64.5%, and the total starch content in shoots was significantly higher than other non-treated apple trees. However, the untreated disease control and thiophanate-methyl WP treated trees showed the symptom of dieback. Therefore, our results indicate that the drenching treatment of NaOCl with 31.25-62.5 ml/l available chlorine content more than two times from late fall to early spring could effectively control the violet root rot and recover tree vigor up to 60%.
