An ARIMA signal observed with measurement error is shown to have another ARIMA representation with nonlinear restrictions on parameters. For this model, the restricted Newton-Raphson estimator(RNRE) of the unit root is shown to have the same limiting distribution as the ordinary least squares estimator of the unit root in an AR(1) model tabulated by Dickey and Fuller (1979). The RNRE of parameters of the ARIMA(p,1,k) process and unit root tests base on the RNRE are developed.
With a purpose to manufacture an onion peeler, the root cutting equipment of the onion could be attached to a prototype onion peeler was developed. Before the experiment, the distribution of the dimensions of the Korean native onion were measured. And some types of the blades to cut and remove the root of the onion were designed and such characteristics as feasible revolution, conveying speed, and power requirement were investigated. From the result of the test, the selected one among the various cutters was the wing type blade with the round blade to cut out the root and with the vertical blade to cut a circular line. The optimum operating conditions of the wing type blade were revealed the revolution with no load was at 630 rpm, and the conveying speed was 0.08 m/s. Under these conditions, the maximum torque was 5.25 kg·m and the power requirement was 33 W, respectively.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the displacement of and the stress distribution on the prosthesis, abutment, and its supporting tissues under functional load, and the effect of alteration in root length of 2nd abutment. The 3-dimensional finite element method was used and the finite element models were prepared in which the abutments of left mandibular 5 unit axed partial denture were canine, the 1st pre-molar and the 2nd molar, and the root lengths of canines were as follows. Model I : Root length of canine was 2mm longer than the 1st premolar Model II : Root length of canine was 2mm shorter than the 1st premolar Static compressive force of 300N was applied to connector between 2nd premolar & 1st molar, and then von Mises stress, displacement and reaction force were obtained. The results were as follows : 1. In fixed partial denture, prosthesis under load on pontic was rotated around mesio-distal long axis of it from longual side to buccal, and simultaneously bended in buccal and gingival direction with mesial end deformed in gingival direction and distolingual end in occlusal. 2. Clinical crowns of abutments were bended in the same directions with those in which prosthesis deforms. Due to that, roots of anterior abutments were twisted in counterclockwise with concentration of shear stress on distal or distobuccal sides of their cervices, and that of posterior was in clockwise with concentration of shear stress on mesiobuccal side of it in the same level with anterior abutments. 3. In case that root length of the 2nd abutment was longer than that of the 1st abutment, its displacement and reaction force which means the force tooth exerts on the surrounding periodontal tissues were smaller but shear stress on itself was larger than in the case root length of 2nd abutment was shorter.
The purpose of this study was to determine the distribution, prevalence and relationship of the localized periodontitis of root fusion in maxillary and mandibular molars. One hundred patients who had eight maxillary and mandibular molars(third molars excluded) were consecutively selected for the study subjects. The subjects provided a total of 800 molars, i. e., 400 maxillary and 400 mandibular molars. A decision about root fusion was made on the radiographic examination. Probing depth, plaque index, gingival index and mobility were measured. The results were as follows. 1. 15.9% of the molars had a fused root. 22% of the maxillary molars and 9.8% of the mandibular molars had a fused molars. 2. In maxillary molars, the results of probing depth, plaque index, gingival index, mobility are more higher in test group than in control group, and there was a significantly difference except plaque index of maxillary first molars group(p<0.01). 3. In mandibular molars, the results of probing depth, plaque index, gingival index, mobility are more higher in test group than in control group, and there was a significantly difference(p<0.01). As a result of this study, it can be concluded that, in management of molars with a root fusion, we should detect the molars through the precise radiographic examination, early periodontal treatment and systematic treatment plan should be chosen. And postoperative continuing supportive periodontal therapy is needed.
Root rot of Cucurbitaceae plants, caused by Monosporascus cannonballus, is one of the recently described diseases in Korea. The distribution and pathogenicity of M. cannonballus were examined by field and in vitro experiments. Root rot caused by M. cannonballus occurred on melon, oriental melon, watermelon and cucumber plants. In two years of disease survey, the disease occurred at 10 and 32 fields in 1997 and 1998, respectively, which were located at Kimhae, Chinju, and Namhae in Kyeongnam province, at Kwangyang in Chonnam province, at Kwangju city, and at Yeoju and Inchon in Kyeonggi province. The disease progress in a melon field at Namhae was not observed until the middle stage of plant growth, but rapidly increased at the fruit maturing stage, resulting in more than 50% yield loss. Isolation rate of M. cannonballus was 36.7% from wilted hosts. Fusarium oxysporum and Rhizoctonia solani were also frequently isolated. In vitro test, seedlings wilted after 7∼14 days of inoculation, and perithecia were formed in infected roots 21 days later. Two cucumber cultivars, Baekbong and Eunhwa, were resistant to the disease.
This study was undertaken to obtain the average canal length of upper & lower anterior teeth which was important in canal length measuring procedure of endodontic treatment. It was based upon 827 out-patients who had endodontic treatment on their upper & lower anterior teeth at the Department of Operative Dentistry, Dental Infirmary, Yonsei Medical Center from February, 1978 to June, 1984. The 1249 teeth of these patients were devided into sex and age groups. The root canal length of these teeth were measured. The following results were obtained; 1. The mean root canal length of upper & lower anterior teeth were as follows; Upper central incisors : 21.8mm Upper lateral incisors : 21.0mm Upper canines : 24.1mm Lower central incisors : 18.6mm Lower lateral incisors : 19.9mm Lower canines : 22.6mm 2. There was no significant difference in root canal length between sex. (P > 0.05) 3. There was no significant difference in root canal length between age groups. (p > 0.05) 4. The distribution of upper central incisors showed the highest distribution followed by upper lateral incisors and lower central incisors between 10 to 40 year old age groups, and there was no signigicant difference in the rest of the age groups. There was no significant difference in sex distribution, which was 49.5% for males and 50.4% for females. The number of the upper anterior teeth was 74.3% of all the specimens and the lower anterior 25.7%, and 40.6% of all the specimens were upper central incisors.

This paper investigates the distribution of stress and its behavior at the Root Toe in fillet welding joint. Furthermore, the stress components and principal stresses in the fillet welds are calculated by the finite element method. The distribution of stresses obtained numerically by means of the finite element method is also compared with the experimental results of two dimensional photoelasticity. A Cover plate type and Center block type of fillet welds are used as models for the numerical calculations covering the variations of 2 W/M(thickness of main plate/thickness of cover plate)=1 through 2W/M=4. The results obtained in these studies are summarized as follows; 1) When W2/M values become small, the stress concentration factors of the Root are larger than of the Toe in a C-type. Its critical value is 2W/M=3.00. However, no critical value exists in a T-type. 2) For 2W/M Values being avove 3.5 in a C-type and above 4.0 in a T-type, $K_R$ and $K_{\tau}$ become 1. 3) According to the differences of 2W/M values, the differences in stress become increasing in the Root but become decreasing in the Toe. These differences, however, disappear as the free boundary surface is approached. 4) The stress concentration factors of both the Root and Toe obtained by means of the finite element method have somewhat lower values than obtained by the photoelasiticity. But their principal stress directions coincide in either method. 5) It proves beneficial to employ the finite element method for two-dimensional plane stress analysis in front fillet welding joint.
This experiment was conducted to find identification of ginseng root's age using the number of stem vestiges in rhizome. The number of stem vestiges in rhizome is a useful key to confirm the age of ginseng root as follow : 4-year-old root has two, 5-year-old root has three, 6-year-old root has four. The distribution of stem vestiges in rhizome each year root are as follow : 2 stem vestiges in 4-year-old root is 89.5%, 3 stem vestiges in 5-year-old root is 79.7%, 4 stem vestiges in 6-year-old root is 46.3%. However, the limiting factors of identification of ginseng root's age using the number of stem vestiges in rhizome is appearance of multi-stem per plant and appearance of destroyed stem vestige in rhizome. The ratio of appearance of multi-stem per plant and destroyed stem vestige in rhizome are increased according to root age.
The study was conducted to investigate the infestation and distribution of plant-parasitic nematodes on kiwi orchards in Korea. Plant parasitic nematodes genus and densities were investigated at a total of 102 sites in Jeollanam-do, Gyeongsangnam-do, and Jeju-do, which are the main production areas of domestic kiwi orchards. Plant parasitic nematodes detected were of 9 genera, including root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.), spiral nematodes (Helicotylenchus spp.), and needle nematodes (Paratylenchus spp.), and 56% of the 102 plantations were infected with root-knot nematodes. Root-knot nematodes were found to be the most important plant parasitic nematode in domestic kiwi orchards. The average density of root-knot nematodes is 97 per 300 cm3 soil, and there is concern about the kiwi yield reduction. As a result of identifying the root-knot nematode species: M. arenaria, M. hapla, M. incognita, and M. javanica. Among them, M. arenaria is the most dominant. As the plant parasitic nematode infection route in fruit trees is often spread through the transplantation of infected seedlings, attention should be paid to the production of nematode-free plants during the production and supply of kiwifruit plants.
Vessel elements in lateral root, tap root, transition region, stem and mid vein of 1-year old, 3-year old and 5-year old ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) are studied with light microscope to clarify the distribution and differentiation of several kinds of vessel elements. Vessel elements are classified into five types such as ring vessel, spiral vessel, scalariform vessel, reticulate vessel and pitted vessel according to the secondary thickenings of cell wall. All of the five types are not observed in each organ, but diverse kinds of vessels are present in stem and mid vein compared with the underground organs such as tap root and lateral root. The length of vessel elements is longest (680$\mu$m) in stem and shortest (143$\mu$m) in tap root. The diameter of vessel elements is 19.0$\mu$m in tap root and the angle of perforation plate comes under 22$^{\circ}$-60$^{\circ}$. The degree of differentiation of vessel elements according to the length, diameter and angle of perforation plate of vessel elements is highest in tap root regardless of the age of ginseng. Three types of perforation plate such as scalariform, intermediate type of simple and scalariform, and simple perforation plate are observed. The vascular tracheids are characteristically observed in mid vein of 1-year old ginseng, and in transition region of 3 and 5-year old ginseng.
