A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE ANGLES BETWEEN CROWN AXIS AND ROOT AXIS IN MESIODISTAL DIRECTION BY USING ORTHOPANTOMOGRAM

  • Orthopantomogram is commonly used to evaluate root parallelism. "Good parallelism" between roots is widely accepted as one of the guidelines of a successful orthodontic treatment. In case there was a large angle between crown axis and root axis, and if we valued only the position of crown in establishing occlusal relationship without considering of the situation of root, the problem of root arrangement between adjacent teeth would be occurred. The estimate of root parallelism in mesiodistal direction before and after orthodontic treatment must be emphasized. The intent of this study was to determine the clinical importance and correlation of the angle between crown axis and root axis. Orthopantomograms of 105 orthodontic patients being treated in Yonsei university were used in this study. Twenty-eight teeth in both maxilla and mandible were selected and analyzed quantitively to evaluate the angle between crown axis and root axis, and obtain the correlationship among the individual teeth. The results are as follows: 1. Among the teeth presenting normal distribution, the maxillary right canine showed the largest mean value( $5.73{\pm}4.42^{\circ}$), which was composed of the crown-root angles, and the mandibular left lateral incisor showed the smallest mean value( $0.60{\pm}3.76^{\circ}$). 2. The crown-root angles of the maxillary incisors and the first molars, and the mandibular central incisors and the first molars didn't show normal distribution and the ranges of these angles were dispersed. 3. Significant differences were present between the crown axis and the root axis except for lower first premolars. (p<0.05) 4. No significant difference was present for the crown-root angle between right and left side, (p<0.05) 5. No significant difference was present for the crown-root angle between male and female except for lower left first premolar. (p<0.05) 6. In the upper right quadrant, significant correlations were present between crown-root angles of the central incisor and lateral incisor, lateral incisor and canine. In the upper left quadrant, significant correlations were present between crown-root angles of the central incisor and lateral incisor. In the lower right quadrant, significant correlations were present between crown-root angles of the central incisor and lateral incisor, first molar and second molar. In the lower left quadrant, significant correlations were present between crown-root angles of the central incisor and lateral incisor, lateral incisor and canine, first molar and second molar. Influence of the anterior arch shape and root position on root angulation in the maxillary esthetic area

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to characterize the relationship of the angulation between the tooth root axis and alveolar bone axis with anterior alveolar(AA) arch forms and sagittal root position (SRP) in the anterior esthetic region using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images. Materials and Methods: CBCT images that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were categorized using a recent classification of AA arch forms and a SRP classification. Then, the angulation of the root axis and the alveolar bone axis was measured using mid-sagittal CBCT images of each tooth. The relationships of the angulation with each AA arch form and SRP classification were evaluated using 1-way analysis of variance and a linear regression model. Results: Ninety-eight CBCT images were included in this study. SRP had a greater influence than the AA arch form on the angulation of the root axis and the alveolar bone axis(P<0.05). However, the combination of AA arch form and SRP was more predictive of the angulation of the root axis and the alveolar bone axis than either parameter individually. Conclusion: The angulation of the root axis and alveolar bone axis demonstrated a relationship with the AA arch form and SRP in teeth in the anterior esthetic region. The influence of SRP was greater, but the combination of both parameters was more predictive of root-to-bone angulation than either parameter individually, implying that clinicians should account for both the AA arch form and SRP when planning implant placement procedures in this region.

진돗개에서 심장초음파 측정치의 평가와 임상적 응용 II. 대동맥기부내경과 우페동맥내경의 비교 (The Echocardiographic Assessment and Clinical Application of Cardiac Disease in Korea Jin-do Dog II. Comparison of Aortic Root Internal Dimension with Right Pulmonary Artery Internal Dimension)

  • Fifteen adult Korea Jin-do dogs were studied by echocardiography to obtain the basic data of the imaging planes and normal references ranges to the aorta and pulmonary artery internal dimension. Measurements of aortic root internal dimension(AOID) and right pulmonary artery internal dimension (RPAID) were made at modified pulmonary arteries level short-axis view and left ventricular outflow tract long-axis view. The aortic root internal dimension and right pulmonary artery internal dimension at modified pulmonary arteries level short-axis view were 18.7$\pm$1.3mm (mean$\pm$SD) and 10.1$\pm$0.8mm, respectively. And RPAID/AOID was 0.5$\pm$0.1mm. The aortic root internal dimension and right pulmonary artery internal dimension at left ventricular outflow tract long-axis view were 19.3$\pm$1.6 mm and 10.7$\pm$1.3mm, respectively. And RPAID/AOID was 0.5$\pm$0.1mm. These results indicate that modified pulmonary arteries level short-axis view is useful planes to examine the aortic root and pulmonary arteries, and aortic root internal dimension is significantly higher(40~50%)than the right pulmonary artery internal dimension. Therefore measurements of aortic root internal and right pulmonary artery internal dimension can be used for monitoring dilation of pulmonary artery.

  • Objective : I would like to study the relationship between the theory of 'Lock, Door and Axis' with the principal of following to the 'Tip, Root and Middle qi' in Huang-Di-Nei-Jing. It can be analysed from the relativeness among the sentences to appearing in Shang-Han-Lun. And consider the theoretical relationship of the two books. Method : First, I search out the exact meaning of 'Lock, Door and Axis' theory. Second, The principal of following to the 'Tip, Root and Middle qi' is closely associated with 'Lock, Door and Axis' theory. Third, I would like to prove that the several sentence in the Shang-Han-Lun are closely related to the Huang-Di-Nei-Jing. Result : Zhang Zhong-jing's Shang-Han-Lun quote a theoretical basis in the Huang-Di-Nei-Jing. Furthermore, it extensively quote to explan a disease and treatment, and so on. Conclusion : It is necessary to study hard the Huang-Di-Nei-Jing for understand clearly the sentences of Shang-Han-Lun. I think that Huang-Di-Nei-Jing have a decisive effect on the Zhang Zhong-jing's thinking to the disease and his medical theory.

Analysis of the root position and angulation of maxillary premolars in alveolar bone using cone-beam computed tomography

  • Purpose: This study investigated whether the relationship between the maxillary sinus and the root of the maxillary premolar is correlated with the root position and whether there is a difference in the long axis angle of premolars and the buccal bone thickness according to the sinus-root relationship and root position. Materials and Methods: Cone-beam computed tomographic images of 587 maxillary first premolars and 580 second premolars from 303 patients were retrospectively reviewed. The maxillary sinus floor-root relationship was classified into 4 types, and the root position in the alveolar bone was evaluated as buccal, middle, or palatal. The long axis angle of the maxillary premolars in the alveolar bone and the buccal bone thickness were measured. The correlation between these parameters was analyzed. Results: The maxillary sinus floor-root relationship showed a statistically significant correlation with the root position in the alveolar bone. Most maxillary first premolars were buccally located, and more than half of the second premolars had their roots in the middle. The long axis angle of the premolars was significantly larger in buccal-positioned teeth than in middle-positioned teeth, and the buccal bone was thinner. Conclusion: When the root of the maxillary premolar was separated from the sinus floor, the premolar was often located on the buccal side. Most of the maxillary first premolars had a thinner buccal bone and larger inclination than the second premolars. It is recommended to evaluate the root position, sagittal angle and buccal bone thickness using CBCT for implant treatment planning.

하악 제1대구치의 치근 만곡에 영향을 주는 요인 (Factors affecting root curvature of mandibular first molar)

  • Purpose : To find the cause of root curvature by use of panoramic and lateral cephalometric radiograph. Materials and Methods : Twenty six 1st graders whose mandibular 1st molars .just emerged into the mouth were selected. Panoramic and lateral cephalometric radiograph were taken at grade 1 and 6, longitudinally. In cephalometric radio graph, mandibular plane angle, ramus-occlusal plane angle, gonial angle, and gonion-gnathion distance (Go-Gn distance) were measured. In panoramic radio graph, elongated root length and root angle were measured by means of digital subtraction radiography. Occlusal plane-tooth axis angle was measured, too. Pearson correlations were used to evaluate the relationships between root curvature and elongated length and longitudinal variations of all variables. Multiple regression equation using related variables was computed. Results : The Pearson correlation coefficient between curved angle and longitudinal variations of occlusal plane-tooth axis angle and ramus-occlusal plane angle was 0.350 and 0.401, respectively (p<0.05). There was no significant correlation between elongated root length and longitudinal variations of all variables. The resulting regression equation was $Y=10.209+0.208X_1+0.745X_2$ (Y: root angle, $X_1$: variation of occlusal plane-tooth axis angle, $X_2$: variation of ramus-occlusal plane angle). Conclusion : It was suspected that the reasons of root curvature were change of tooth axis caused by contact with 2nd deciduous tooth and amount of mesial and superior movement related to change of occlusal plane.

  • 남부지방에 적합한 품종의 효율적인 선발을 위한 기초자료를 얻고자 9품종을 공시하여 생육 및 수량조사, 유전분산, 환경 분산, 유전력, 상관을 조사한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 다수성이며 꽃대발생수가 적어서 품질이 우수한 Sunwol 택사 품종이 남부지방에 가장 적합한 품종으로 나타났었다. 2. Sunwol 품종의 모든 형질에 대한 유전력은 대부분의 형질에서 높았다. 3.형질 상호간의 상관에서 건근 수량은 초장, 엽수와는 정의상관으로 유의성이 높았고 꽃대 발생수, 묘상의 초장, 묘상의 엽수와는 부의상관으로 나타났다. 4. 건근 수량과 상관이 높았던 형질들은 유전력 추정에서도 높게 나타났다.

Stability Comparison of New Simplified Speed Sensorless Vector Control Systems for Induction Motors

  • This paper discusses stability of new simplified sensorless vector control systems of induction motors (IM). The simplified sensorless systems estimate the flux angle by using the output voltage of d-axis PI current controller to achieve the q-axis flux zero. Two simplified sensorless systems are studied. The difference of two systems is the presence or absence of a q-axis PI current controller. The systems stability is compared by deriving linear state equations and showing root loci and unstable regions. Furthermore, transient responses and experiment results make clear the stability of the proposed system.

부정교합 분류에 따른 상악 중절치의 치관-치근 각도(Collum Angle)에 대한 연구 (MAXILLARY INCISOR CROWN-ROOT ANGLE(COLLUM ANGLE) IN DIFFERENT MALOCCLUSIONS)

  • 측모두부 방사선 계측사진에서 일반적으로 사용하는 상악 중절치의 장축은 치근첨(Root Apex)과 절치단(Incisor Edge)를 연결한 선을 사용하지만 일부 부정교합 환자에서는 치관장축과 치근장축이 일치하지 않는 경우가 있으며 이 경우 두장축이 이루는 각을 치관-치근각도(Collum Angle)라 하며, 이 각도는 교정치료의 진단 및 치료과정에 고려되어져야 한다. 본 연구에서는 제 I 급 부정교합 환자 31명, 제 II급 1류 부정교합 환자 30명, 제 II 급 2류 부정교합 환자 31명, 제 III급 부정교합 환자 31명에서 치관-치근 각도를 계측하여 부정교합과의 상관관계를 알아보았으며, 측모두부 방사선 계측사진에서 사용되는 항목들과의 상관분석을 통하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 부정교합 분류에 따른 치관-치근 각도의 평균값은 제 I 급 부정교합에서는 $3.11^{\circ}{\pm}3.54^{\circ}$, 제 II급 1류 부정교합에서는 $1.23^{\circ}{\pm}2.41^{\circ}$, 제 II급 2류 부정교합에서는 $3.77^{\circ}{\pm}4.39^{\circ}$, 제 III급 부정교합에서는 $3.90^{\circ}{\pm}4.08^{\circ}$ 이었다. 2. 제 II급 1류 부정교합군의 치관-치근 각도와 제 II급 2류, 제 III급 부정교합군의 치관-치근 각도에 유의성 있는 차이가 나타났다. 3. 치관-치근 각도와 측모두부 방사선 계측사진에서 사용되는 다른 항목들과의 상관관계에서 제 I급 부정교합에서는 IMPA, 제 II급 1류 부정교합에서는 Wits, 제 II급 2류 부정교합과 제 III급 부정교합에서는 Overbite이 가장 큰 상관성을 보였다.

Development of Schizogenous and Lysigenous Aerenchyma in Rice Root

  • Aerenchyma development in rice (Oryza sativa L.) roots is quite important for adaptation to waterlogged or reduced soil conditions. Anatomical observations were carried out to clarify the development of schizogenous and lysigenous aerenchyma in elongating crown roots of rice. The crown roots of 3rd and 4th phytomer were taken from rice plants of the 8th leaf stage grown by hydroponic culture. The schizogenous intercellular spaces in the cortex of crown root tip were observed using a light microscope with semi ultra-thin sections and the lysigenous aerenchyma in mature tissue of crown root were observed using a cryo scanning electron microscope (cryo-SEM) with freezing fracture method. The schizogenous intercellular spaces in the root tip exist obviously in the middle portion of cortical cell layers close to the root-root cap junction, but not in root cap, stele and outer cell layers of cortex. The air spaces were formed at the junction of four neighbouring cells of inner cortex in the transverse sections, and between longitudinal cell layer connected along the root axis. Although many of those spaces were filled with liquid, some spaces seem to exist as air spaces. The lysigenous aerenchyma in the cortex, which hardly filled with liquid, emerged at 3-4 cm segment from the root tip and increased toward the basal region of root axis. The developing process of lysigenous aerenchyma was primarily separation of a radial row of cells caused by the shrinking and collapsing of cortical cells and then formation of septa along the radial cell rows by the fusion of cell wall with each other. These results suggest that the schizogenous and lysigenous aerenchyma playa role as a passage for the movement of oxygen into the root tip region where oxygen is required for respiration.
