The purpose of this study is to classify roof styles about high-rise apartment complexes in these days. Specially, it is focused on those in Daegu city. It has analyzed for 75 apartment complexes in Daegu city. Those complexes are all over 300 houses each and were built from 2004 to 2007. Generally, roof styles about high-rise apartment complexes are classed as a flat roof style and a slope-sided roof style. Types of the flat roof style were divided a flat roof style and a eyebrows roof style. And, types of the slope-sided roof style were divided a single slope-sided roof style, a gable roof style, and a hipped roof style. The curved roof style didn't show up at these cases. According to this study, the slope-sided roof style including the gable roof style was revealed the most common roof style about high-rise apartment complexes in Daegu city from 2004 to 2007. Among 76 cases of roof styles, the number of the gable roof style is 52, and the number of flat roof style is 18. Each roof style was changed for more decorative shape. Specially, in case of the flat roof style, 17 cases for 18 cases are built as a decorative flat roof style. and, 15 for 52 gable roof style cases are built as a decorative style, too. According this case study, we are able to know that the sort of roof style was advanced variously and decoratively, and the shape of roof style was combined more than 2 decorative factors. The roof style of high-rise apartment complex in future will be more various and decorative than this time and will be develop compositively.
The main purpose of this study is to define an optimum slope of the roof that demands minimum cooling load of the building, when the roof is affected by the solar and wind energy. Two different roof shapes were chosen: hip, gabled. The cooling load of building having those roof shapes was calculated through the computer simulation, using DOE program. For the simulation, the angle of the roof and angle of the orientation was changed. In the conclusion of this paper, an optimum slope of the roof which causes minimize cooling load is presented according to the roof shape and orientation. The result of this study could provide a practical design guideline for determining the roof angle for various climatic conditions.

The hipped roof on the research building, which was constructed 51.9m above sea level on a hillock by Korea National University of Education in June 1999, is composed of four inclined planes which are 12m in breadth, 8m in length and have a 30 degree gradient. For the roof vegetation, the yellow earth collected from around the building was laid on top. It was designed to supply the soil on the slope with water for a considerable period by making rainfall pool at the edges. In order to prevent the soil on the slope from being swept away, 31 sorts of grass seeds were imported from Germany and sown in the soil. At the present day, 10 years after the seeds began to sprout and inhabit the settled slope, 30 individual plant species were identified in the period between April 2008 and March 2009. Out of 31 species were seeded on the slanted, soiled roof, only 8 were still alive. It was confirmed that the Artemisia Princeps var, Chrysantheum, Prunella Vulgaris and Lespedeza Cuneata have been the major species inhabiting the east, west, south and north inclined planes respectively. The Phragmites Communis was inhabiting the edge of the roof where the water supply was adequate, while the Dianthus Barbatus was primarily inhabiting the south-east side of the roof. As a whole, 26 identifiable plants and 4 unidentified plants were observed on the inclined planes of the hipped roof. In consideration of the plant distribution on the slope, it was confirmed that the selection of seeds may have had an effect on the slope vegetation. As for the yellow earth laid on the roof, it was discovered that about 2~3cm thickness around the ridge was swept away, but the rest of the slope was in relatively good condition. Accordingly, it has been proven that vegetations can be applied to hipped roofs by using ordinary plants without any special structural measures.
Buildings with mono-sloped roofs are used for different purposes like at railway platforms, restaurants, industrial buildings, etc. Between two types of mono-slope roofs, clad and unclad, unclad canopy types are more vulnerable to wind load as wind produces pressure on both upper and lower surfaces of the roof, resulting in uplifting of the roof surface. This paper discusses the provisions of wind loads in different codes and standards for Low-rise buildings. Further, the pressure coefficients on mono-slope canopy roof available in wind code and standards are compared. Previous experimental studies for mono-slope canopy roof along with the recent wind tunnel testing carried out at Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee is briefly discussed and compared with the available wind codes. From the study it can further be asserted that the information available related to staging or blocking under the mono-slope canopy roofs is limited. This paper is an attempt to put together the available information in different wind codes/standards and the research works carried out by different researchers, along with shedding some light on the future scopes of research on mono-slope canopy roofs.
The snow cornice mass on the formation zone had triggered avalanches which led to the loss of human life and property. Snow cornice is formed due to flow separation on the leeward side. Effect of lee slope is more prominent in the formation of snow cornices as compared to the windward slope. The analysis of wind flow pattern has been carried out to evaluate the performance of a jet roof. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis of wind flow over a 2D hill model was carried out using RNG based k-∈ turbulence models available in ANSYS Fluent. Effect of varying leeward hill slope (1:2 to 1:6) on flow separation for the given windward slope was observed and a critical slope of 1:4 was found at which the separation zone ceased to exist. The modification of wind flow over a hill due to the installation of jet roof was simulated. It was observed that jet roof had significantly modified the wind flow pattern around hill ridgeline and ultimately snow cornice formation had mitigated. The results of the wind flow pattern were validated with the wind data collected at the experimental site, Banihal Top (Jammu and Kashmir, India). The wind flow simulation over the hill and mitigation of cornice formation by the jet roof has been explained in the present paper.
The paper addresses the suitability of wind pressure coefficients specified in contemporary design standards and codes of practice for gable roofs of intermediate slope (roof angle $10^{\circ}-30^{\circ}$). In a recent research study, a series of low building models with different roof slopes in this intermediate range were tested in a boundary layer wind tunnel under simulated open country terrain conditions. This was different from the original study in the 70's, which produced the current provisions on the basis of a model tested only for a single roof slope (4:12) in this range. The results of the study suggest that a modification to the American wind provisions would be warranted to make them more representative of the true local and area-averaged wind loads imposed on gable roofs of intermediate slope.
Effect of roof slope on the transmissivities of direct and diffuse solar radiation using a computer simulation model developed by Kim and Lee(1997) was analyzed for 10-span glasshouse located in Seoul(37$^{\circ}$34' N), Chonju(35$^{\circ}$49' N) and Cheju(33$^{\circ}$31' N). Transmissivities of diffuse solar radiation in glasshouse with roof slopes of 15, 20, 24.6, 30 and 35 degree were calculated as 61.3, 61.6, 61.7, 56.8 and 58.6%, respectively. Transmissivities of direct solar radiation(TDSR) during the period except summer season were highly affected by the roof slope. During the winter season, TDSR in glasshouse with roof slopes of 30 and 35 degree were higher than those with other roof slopes. Also, during the period except winter season, TDSR in glasshouse with roof slope of 20 degree were higher than those with other roof slopes. Difference in TDSR with latitude was significant during the period from October to February. At this period TDSR were highly appeared at lower latitude. Effect of roof slope on TDSR in S-N greenhouse was smaller than those in E-W greenhouse. It is considered that direct solar radiation highly transmitted in the glasshouse with roof slope of 20 degree.

This study aims to evaluate the natural lighting performance in the sound barrier tunnel. Therefore, to evaluate the daylighting performance, the combinations of 3 tunnel roof types which are flat-roof-type(type A), slope-roof-type(type B), arch-roof-type(type C) and 3 window types which are side-window-type(type 1), one-window-roof type(type 2), two-window-roof type(type 3) are evaluated by experimenting small scaled models. In this 9 cases of experiment, illuminance levels of each case are analyzed and evaluated. The conclusion of this study is that slope-roof-type(B) and arch-roof-type(C) is preferable to flat-roof-type(A) and one-window-roof-type(B) and two-window-roof-type(C) is preferable to side-window-type(A) for daylighting in the sound barrier tunnel.

In this study, the impact of roof slope on the flow characteristics over low-sloped gable roofs was investigated using steady computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations based on a k-ω SST turbulence model. A measurement database of the flow field over a scaled model of 15° was created using particle image velocimetry (PIV). Sensitivity analyses for the grid resolutions and turbulence models were performed. Among the three common Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations (RANS) models, the k-ω SST model exhibited a better performance, followed by the RNG model and then the realizable k-ε model. Next, the flow properties over the differently sloped (0° to 25°) building models were determined. It was found that the effect of roof slope on the flow characteristics was identified by changing the position and size of the separation bubbles, 15° was found to be approximately the sensitive slope at which the distribution of the separation bubbles changed significantly. Additionally, it is suggested additional attention focused on the distributions of the negative pressure on the windward surfaces (especially 5° and 10° roofs) and the possible snow redistribution on the leeward surfaces.
