The Influence of Maternal Childhood Experiences, Parental Reflection and Parental Role Satisfaction upon Mother's Reaction to Negative Emotions of Preschoolers: Mediated Moderation Effect Verification (어머니의 아동기 수용경험, 부모성찰, 부모역할만족도가 유아의 부정적 정서에 대한 어머니 반응에 미치는 영향: 매개된 조절효과 검증)

  • The study examined the mediated-moderation effect of parental reflection levels from maternal childhood experiences by the parents to mother's reaction to negative emotions of their preschoolers by examining it through the lens of parental role satisfaction. The participants in this study were 327 mothers who and their infants aged 3-6 years. They completed questionnaires on the maternal childhood experiences scale, parental reflection scale, parental role satisfaction scale and mother's reaction to negative emotions of their preschoolers scale. The results of the structural equation model analysis are as follows. First, a mediating model revealed that the relationship between maternal childhood experiences by parents and mother's reactions to negative emotions of their preschoolers was mediated by parental role satisfaction. Second, the results revealed the moderation effect of parents reflection levels on the relationship between maternal childhood experiences by parents and parental role satisfaction. Finally, parental reflection levels were also seen to have a mediated moderation effect of parental reflection level from maternal childhood experiences to mother's reaction to negative emotions of their preschoolers through parental role satisfaction. These results indicate the importance of parental reflection and parental role satisfaction.

The Influence of Cultural Similarity and Empathy on Helping Intention: Testing the Moderated Mediating Effect of Cosmopolitanism (문화유사 및 공감이 도움의향에 미치는 영향: 세계시민주의의 조절된 매개효과 검증)

  • Prior research suggested that people generally show stronger intentions to help in-group members because people experience higher levels of empathy for those who are similar to themselves. The present research demonstrated that one's levels of cosmopolitanism would moderate the mediating role of empathy on the relationship between cultural similarities and helping intentions. In particular, it was examined how the mediator (empathy) affected the relation between cultural similarity and helping intention for participants with low to high levels of cosmopolitanism. Results indicated that participants with lower levels of cosmopolitanism showed stronger empathy as targets are more culturally similar to participants' own culture. Participants with higher levels of cosmopolitanism, however, reported the same levels of empathy regardless of targets' cultural similarity. The implications and limitations of the results were discussed.

Influence of Parental Attachment on Learning Flow: Mediating Effects of Parental Academic Expectation and Optimism in Adolescents (청소년들의 부모애착이 학습몰입에 미치는 영향: 부모의 학업기대와 낙관성의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the mediating effects of parental academic expectations and adolescent's optimism in the influence of perceived parental attachment on learning flow. The subjects of this study were 184 middle and high school students in Seoul. The results of this study are as follows. First, academic expectation and optimism showed significant full mediation effects on the relationship between parent attachment and learning flow. Second, there was no statistically significant difference in the difference between the indirect effects of academic expectation and optimism by the bootstrapping method. Based on the results of this study, it was found that the healthy attachment relationship with the parents increases the parent's supportive expectancy, improves the optimism for the youth, and improves the learning commitment for effective learning. Finally, we discussed the role and expectations of parents and adolescents in promoting the learning commitment of adolescents.

Collaborative Information Seeking in Digital Libraries, Learning Styles, Users' Experience, and Task Complexity

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between collaborative information seeking and users' learning style preferences and their experience of information systems. The study investigates the role of four different factors including learning style, task complexity, and user experience in collaborative information seeking in digital environments. Sixty participants (30 pairs) were randomly chosen from volunteer graduate students of Kharazmi University (Iran). Participants completed Kolb's learning style questionnaire and a user experience questionnaire and then performed two information seeking tasks (one simple and one difficult) in a lab setting. They could exchange information with their partners or a librarian using Skype. The sessions were recorded using Camtasia. The results showed that with an increase in task difficulty, collaborative information seeking activities increased and more interactions with partners and the librarian occurred. The number of executive help-seeking requests was higher than the number of instrumental help-seeking requests. This research confirms that learning style is related to the way users interact with the digital library and help seeking. The research showed that in difficult tasks, the differences among users with different learning styles become more evident, and that generally interactions increase in more difficult tasks. Among the learning styles, the accommodating style had the highest number of relationships with collaborative information seeking variables. Most of the statistically significant relationships between users' prior computer experience and collaborative information seeking variables were related to the time variable.

The Effects of Trust on Happiness among Korean Older Adults: The Role of Place of Residence (거주지역별 노인의 신뢰 유형이 행복에 미치는 영향)

  • The present study examined whether the relation between different types of trust and happiness varied by place of residence (i.e., major cities vs. provinces) among Korean older adults. We used a total of 1,599 Korean adults aged 60 or older who had lived in the same residence at least for 5 years before. Multiple regression analysis was conducted to test an interaction between types of trust and place of residence. Results show that generalized trust and social trust have positive association with happiness. A significant interaction effect between generalized trust, particularized trust, and place of residence were found. In particular, particularized trust was found to have positive effects on happiness within residences who had lived in provinces and generalized trust was found to have positive effects on happiness within residences who had lived in major cities. Findings suggest that different types of trust on happiness, especially interpersonal trust should be interpreted in an environmental context. Future practical implications for increasing older adult's trust are discussed in a cultural context as a way to promote happiness and research directions are discussed.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of phonology in lexical access of bilingual processing for Korean-English bilinguals. Four experiments have been conducted in order to adjudicate the nonselective lexical access hypothesis, which argues simultaneous phonological activation of two bilingual languages, and the selective lexical access hypothesis, which argues phonological activation of only one bilingual language. The results showed that the Korean target word processing was significantly affected by the phonological manipulation of the English prime word(Exp. 2). Similarly, the English target word processing showed the tendencies that it is affected by the phonological manipulation of the Korean prime word(Exp. 2). This results indicates that the phonological information of another bilingual language is automatically activated when we process one of bilingual languages, and the process of English, which is the second language for most Korean, is phonologically activated.

The impacts of social exclusion and the need to belong on the affective forecasting of social events (사회적 배척과 소속 욕구가 사회적 사건의 정서 예측에 미치는 영향)

  • The present study examined the intensity of affective forecasting and the size of affective forecasting errors of people who experienced social exclusion or those high in need to belong. In Particular, a series of studies was designed to explore the moderating role of the types of future events (i.e. social vs. non-social events) in the relationship between social exclusion, the need to belong and affective forecasting. Results indicated that participants who experienced social exclusion or be high in need to belong showed significantly extreme affective ratings on the future social events compared to the future non-social events. Additional results suggested that more social exclusion experiences or higher needs to belong did not affect to the affective ratings on the experienced social events, indicating greater affective forecasting errors of socially excluded people or people with higher need to belong. The implications and limitations of the results were also discussed.

The Influence of Covert Narcissistic Tendency on Interpersonal Satisfaction: The Mediating Effect of Ambivalence over Emotional Expressiveness (내현적 자기애 특성이 대인관계 만족도에 미치는 영향: 정서표현양가성의 매개효과)

  • Background: The purpose of this study was to explore the mediating effect of ambivalence over emotional expressiveness on the relationship between covert narcissistic tendency of adults in their twenties and the satisfaction of interpersonal relations. Methods: 194 male and female adults in their twenties completed the self-report questionnaires on covert narcissism, ambivalence over emotional expressiveness, and interpersonal satisfaction. A mediated model was tested using the SPSS Macro by Hayes. Results: We verified that the ambivalence over emotional expressiveness played a mediating role in the relationship between covert narcissistic tendency and interpersonal satisfaction. In terms of the characteristics of relationship, except for the superior person, the relationship between lover/spouse and friends/colleagues showed the mediating effect between covert narcissism and interpersonal satisfaction. Conclusions: The covert narcissistic tendency itself affects low interpersonal satisfaction, but the ambivalence over emotional expressiveness affects low interpersonal satisfaction when the covert narcissist interacts with lover/spouse, friends/colleagues. We discussed the directions of intervention for the covert narcissist having low satisfaction in relationships, limitations and future suggestions of this research.

  • 문자로 표기된 단어의 의미를 파악 과정에 음운 정보가 개입하는지를 결정하기 위해 3 개의 실험을 실시하였다. 예컨대, [동닙 신문]과 [목립 신문]을 제시하고 이들이 구(句)가 성립되는지를 판단케 한 실험 1에서는 [동닙 신문]을 "독립 신문"으로 오판한 확률이 [목립 신문]을 "독립 신문"으로 오판한 확률보다 낮았다. [국립]과 [공립] 그리고 [궁닙]과 [공립]을 각각 차례로 제시하고, 두 번째 제시된 단어("공립")를 명명하는 데 소요된 시간을 측정한 실험 2에서는, 앞서 제시된 [궁닙]이 뒤에 제시되는 [공립]의 명명을 다소 용이하게 하였지만 그 정도는 미미하였으며, 앞서 제시된 [국립]이 [공립]의 명명을 촉진시킨 것에 크게 못 미쳤다. 실험 2에서와 동일한 자극 재료에다, 명명과제 대신 어휘판단 과제를 이용한 실험 3에서는 "국립"과 동음인 비단어 [궁닙]이 [정립]보다는 [공립]의 인식을 촉진시켰지만, [국립]이 [공립]인식을 촉진시진 정도에는 크게 못미쳤다. 이들 결과를 종합하면, 음운 정보는 의미 파악에 부수적인 도움 정도만 제공한다는 결론이 도출된다.

Marketing for Real and Virtual Museums: A marketing Model to Explain Visitor Behavior in Real Museums and an Outlook on its Applicability to Virtual Museums

  • The purpose of this study is to obtain more insight into the explanation and prognosis of consumer behavior in real and virtual museums. The analysis focuses on the influence of the museum environment on the museum patrons (rather than on the influence of the art objects). On the basis of the emotional approach to environmental psychology by Mehrabian and Russell (1974), a behavior model has been developed for museums. The model, which is based on the emotional variables pleasure, arousal and dominance (PAD), is also enhanced by cognitive variabies (learning attractiveness, education standard and information demand). The enhancement of the classical model was necessary because cognitive variables play a major role in cultural institutions such as museums: One important objective of museums is the communication of cultural knowledge to visitors. The model is tested empirically using structural equation modeling. 301 visitors were interviewed individually. Two different museum environments were represented using visual stimuli. The theoretical model for museums can be proved empirically. The degree to which the model fits the empirical data was extensively tested. The model showed high compatibility with the data and could be accepted. The study proves that a model can be developed, which explains visitor behavior in museums. The model shows museum designers how museums should be designed to be both emotionally appealing and a learning environment. Based on empirical studies in virtual stores on the Internet, it is discussed whether the research findings in these environments may be applied to virtual museum environments. In order to create an emotionally appealing virtual museum, it is recommended that one uses a 3-dimensional representation to offer various possibilities for interaction and to create a multi-sensual environment that appears highly realistic.
