  • How well the self-interference cancellation (SIC) technique performs is a primary issue in realizing an in-band full-duplex (FD) wireless communication system. One factor affecting its performance is channel estimation error on the self-interference channel. We propose a new analog SIC scheme which is robust to channel estimation error. It uses phase rotators in the radio frequency (RF) chain. We also derive closed-form equations for the residual self-interference of the proposed and the conventional schemes. The analytical and numerical results show that the residual self-interference under the proposed SIC scheme is less than that using the conventional scheme, even though channel estimation error is present.

  • The flexibility of long reach manipulators presents a difficult control problem when accurate end-point position is required. Input shaping by convolving system commands with impulse sequences has been shown to be an effective method of reducing residual vibrations in flexible systems. However, existing shapers have been considered robustness fur only frequency uncertainty. However, this paper presents new multi-hump convolution(CV) input shaper that could accommodate with the simultaneous variation of natural frequency and damping ratio. Comparisons with previously proposed input shapers are presented to illustrate the qualities of the new input shaper. These new shapers will be shown to have better robustness fur the variation of frequency and damping ratio.

  • Input shaping technique has been used as a simple method of controlling the residual vibration of a flexible manipulator. With the conventional methods previously proposed by several authors, the frequency range that shows a good performance is restricted. When the designed frequency being different from the natural frequency of a system, the performance of control degrades remarkably. This paper introduced a new technique that designs input shaping with robustness in the z-domain.

  • This paper compares input shaping techniques for controlling residual vibration of flexible structures. Input shaping generates vibration-reducing shaped commands through convolution of an impulse sequence with the desired command. Both feedforward and feedback control approaches with/without input shaper for uncertain dynamical systems are investigated to evaluate the control performances. The control objective is to achieve a fast settling time and robustness to plant uncertainty, to eliminate residual vibrations. It is shown by a series of simulation that a properly designed feedback controller with input shaper performs well, as compared with open-loop controller with input shaper.

  • In this paper, we propose a residual echo and noise reduction scheme for hands-free telephony applications. The proposed algorithm uses a noise robust modified AP algorithm which estimate well echo path in noisy and whitens residual echo signal using linear prediction at non double-talk duration. It is confirmed that the proposed algorithm shows better performance from acoustic interference cancellation (AIC) viewpoint.

  • An algorithm is proposed to identify multiple outliers in linear regression. It is based on the clustering of residuals from the least median of squares estimation. A cut-height criterion for the hierarchical cluster tree is suggested, which yields the optimal clustering of the regression outliers. Comparisons of the effectiveness of the procedures are performed on the basis of the classic data and artificial data sets, and it is shown that the proposed algorithm is superior to the one that is based on the least squares estimation. In particular, the algorithm deals very well with the masking and swamping effects while the other does not.

  • In this paper, we propose an approach for extracting and filtering block motion vectors using an adaptive weight function. We first extract motion vectors from a sequence of images by using size-varibale block matching and then process them by adaptive robust estimation to filter out outliers (motion vectors out of concern). The proposed adaptive robust estimation defines a continuous sigmoid weight function. It then adaptively tunes the sigmoid function to its hard-limit as the residual errors between the model and input data are decreased, so that we can effectively separate non-outliers (motion vectors of concern) from outliers with the finally tuned hard-limit of the weight function. The experimental results show that the suggested approach is very effective in filtering block motion vectors.

  • Two GOS (Generalized Observer Scheme) type Fault Detection Isolation Schemes (FDIS), employing the bank of unknown input functional observers (UIFO) as a residual generator, are proposed to make the practical use of the multiple observer based FDIS. The one is IFD (Instrument Fault Detection) scheme and the other is PFD (Process Fault Detection) scheme. A design method of UIFO is suggested for robust residual generation and reducing the size of the observer bank. Several design objectives that can be achieved by the FDI schemes and the design methods to meet the objectives are described. An IFD system is constructed for the Boeing 929 Jetfoil boat system to show the effectiveness of the propositions. Major contributions of this paper are two folds. Firstly, the proposed UIFO approaches considerably reduce the size of residual generator in the GOS type FDI systems. Secondly, the FDI schemes, in addition to the basic functions of the conventional observer-based FDI schemes, can reconstruct the failed signal or give the estimates of fault magnitude that can be used for compensating fault effects. The schemes are directly applicable to the design of a fault tolerant control systems.

  • This paper develops a two-stage method for structural damage identification by using modal data. First, the Residual Force Vector (RFV) is introduced to detect any potentially damaged elements of structures. Second, data of the frequency domain are used to build up the objective function, and then the Imperialist Competitive Algorithm (ICA) is utilized to estimate damaged extents. ICA is a heuristic algorithm with simple structure, which is easy to be implemented and it is effective to deal with high-dimension nonlinear optimization problem. The advantages of this present method are: (1) Calculation complexity can be decreased greatly after eliminating many intact elements in the first step. (2) Robustness, ICA ensures the robustness of the proposed method. Various damaged cases and different structures are investigated in numerical simulations. From these results, anyone can point out that the present algorithm is effective and robust for structural damage identification and is also better than many other heuristic algorithms.
