Improvement of Face Recognition Speed Using Pose Estimation (얼굴의 자세추정을 이용한 얼굴인식 속도 향상)

  • This paper addresses a method of estimating roughly the human pose by comparing Haar-wavelet value which is learned in face detection technology using AdaBoost algorithm. We also presents its application to face recognition. The learned weak classifier is used to a Haar-wavelet robust to each pose's feature by comparing the coefficients during the process of face detection. The Mahalanobis distance is used to measure the matching degree in Haar-wavelet selection. When a facial image is detected using the selected Haar-wavelet, the pose is estimated. The proposed pose estimation can be used to improve face recognition speed. Experiments are conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed method for pose estimation.

  • Automatic human face detection in a complex background is one of the difficult problems In this paper. we propose an effective automatic face detection system that can locate the face region in natural scene images when the system is used as a pre-processor of a face recog- nition system. We use two natural and powerful visual cues, the color and the human head shape. The outline of the human head can be generally described as being roughly elliptic in nature. In the first step of the proposed system, we have tried the approach of fitting the best Possible ellipse to the outline of the head In the next step, the method based on the human skin color space by selecting flesh tone regions in color images and histogramming their r(=R/(R+G+B)) and g(=G/R+G+B)) values. According to our experiment. the proposed system shows robust location results

A New Face Detection Method using Combined Features of Color and Edge under the illumination Variance (컬러와 에지정보를 결합한 조명변화에 강인한 얼굴영역 검출방법)

  • This paper describes a new face detection method that is a pre-processing algorithm for on-line face recognition. To complement the weakness of using only edge or rotor features from previous face detection method, we propose the two types of face detection method. The one is a combined method with edge and color features and the other is a center area color sampling method. To prevent connecting the people's face area and the background area, which have same colors, we propose a new adaptive edge detection algorithm firstly. The adaptive edge detection algorithm is robust to illumination variance so that it extracts lots of edges and breakouts edges steadily in border between background and face areas. Because of strong edge detection, face area appears one or multi regions. We can merge these isolated regions using color information and get the final face area as a MBR (Minimum Bounding Rectangle) form. If the size of final face area is under or upper threshold, color sampling method in center area from input image is used to detect new face area. To evaluate the proposed method, we have experimented with 2,100 face images. A high face detection rate of 96.3% has been obtained.

  • We propose a more stable robust recognition algorithm which detects faces reliably even in cases where there are changes in lighting and angle of view, as well it satisfies efficiency in calculation and detection performance. We propose detects the face area alone after normalization through pre-processing and obtains a feature vector using (PCA). The feature vector is applied to LDA and using Euclidean distance of intra-class variance and inter class variance in the 2nd dimension, the final analysis and matching is performed. Experimental results show that the proposed method has a wider distribution when the input image is rotated $45^{\circ}$ left / right. We can improve the recognition rate by applying this feature value to a single algorithm and complex algorithm, and it is possible to recognize in real time because it does not require much calculation amount due to dimensional reduction.

  • A face detection in color images is important for many multimedia applications. It is first step for face recognition and can be used for classifying specific shorts. This paper describes a new method to detect faces in color images based on the skin color and hair color. This paper presents a fuzzy-based method for classifying skin color region in a complex background under varying illumination. The Fuzzy rule bases of the fuzzy system are generated using training method like a genetic algorithm(GA). We find the skin color region and hair color region using the fuzzy system and apply the convex-hull to each region and find the face from their intersection relationship. To validity the effectiveness of the proposed method, we make experiment with various cases.

  • In this paper, we propose the real-time system that detects and recognizes the human face by PTZ camara. Generally, Face detection algorithms are disturbed by variable illuminations in a image. To avoid those, we use the robust adaboost algorithm for face detection. For recognition, we use PCA algorithm. we focus on the real-time system. It will be necessary in many applications.

  • The size of a display is large, The form becoming various of that do not apply to previous methods of gaze tracking and if setup gaze-track-camera above display, can solve the problem of size or height of display. However, This method can not use of infrared illumination information of reflected cornea using previous methods. In this paper, Robust pupil detecting method for eye's occlusion, corner point of inner eye and center of pupil, and using the face pose information proposes a method for calculating the simply position of the gaze. In the proposed method, capture the frame for gaze tracking that according to position of person transform camera mode of wide or narrow angle. If detect the face exist in field of view(FOV) in wide mode of camera, transform narrow mode of camera calculating position of face. The frame captured in narrow mode of camera include gaze direction information of person in long distance. The method for calculating the gaze direction consist of face pose estimation and gaze direction calculating step. Face pose estimation is estimated by mapping between feature point of detected face and 3D model. To calculate gaze direction the first, perform ellipse detect using splitting from iris edge information of pupil and if occlusion of pupil, estimate position of pupil with deformable template. Then using center of pupil and corner point of inner eye, face pose information calculate gaze position at display. In the experiment, proposed gaze tracking algorithm in this paper solve the constraints that form of a display, to calculate effectively gaze direction of person in the long distance using single camera, demonstrate in experiments by distance.

  • This paper proposes an enhanced skin color-based detection method to find a region of human face in color images. The proposed detection method combines three color spaces, RGB, $YC_bC_r$, YIQ and builds color union histograms of luminance and chrominance components respectively. Combined color union histograms are then fed in to the back-propagation neural network for training and Levenberg-Marquadt algorithm is applied to the iteration process of training. Proposed method with Levenberg-Marquadt algorithm applied to training process of neural network contributes to solve a local minimum problem of back-propagation neural network, one of common methods of training for face detection, and lead to make lower a detection error rate. Further, proposed color-based detection method using combined color union histograms which give emphasis to chrominance components divided from luminance components inputs more confident values at the neural network and shows higher detection accuracy in comparison to the histogram of single color space. The experiments show that these approaches perform a good capability for face region detection, and these are robust to illumination conditions.

  • In this paper the extended algorithm of valley energy was proposed In order to detect the robust features of the face The proposed energy had the variable type without the constant size of valley mask for measuring the gray value among pixels By accumulating the results generated by the various masks the information of valley energy was so diversified. Then the robust energy which is independent of the environments was maded. The various experiments proved that The proposed method showed the detection rate of 98 percentage in the features of the face region.
