This paper suggests a multiple robot simulator which considers the uncertainties in robot motion and sensing. A mobile robot moves with errors due to some kinds of uncertainties from actuators, wheels, electrical components, environments. In addition, sensors attached to a mobile robot can't make accurate output information because of uncertainties of the sensor itself and environment. Uncertainties in robot motion and sensing leads researchers find difficulty in building mobile robot navigation algorithms. Generally, a robot algorithm without considering unexpected uncertainties fails to control its action in a real working environment and it leads to some troubles and damages. Thus, the authors propose a simulator model which includes robot motion and sensing uncertainties to help making robust algorithms. Sensor uncertainties are applied in range sensors which are widely used in mobile robot localization, obstacle detection, and map building. The paper shows performances of the proposed simulator by comparing it with a simulator without any uncertainty.
To verify performance or conduct experiments using actual robots, a lot of costs are needed such as robot hardware, experimental space, and time. Therefore, a simulation environment is an essential tool in robotics research. In this paper, we develop the HUMIC simulator using ROS and Gazebo. HUMIC is a humanoid robot, which is developed by HCIR Lab., for human-robot interaction and an upper body of HUMIC is similar to humans with a head, body, waist, arms, and hands. The Gazebo is an open-source three-dimensional robot simulator that provides the ability to simulate robots accurately and efficiently along with simulated indoor and outdoor environments. We develop a GUI for users to easily simulate and manipulate the HUMIC simulator. Moreover, we open the developed HUMIC simulator and GUI for other robotics researchers to use. We test the developed HUMIC simulator for object detection and reinforcement learning-based navigation tasks successfully. As a further study, we plan to develop robot behavior intelligence based on reinforcement learning algorithms using the developed simulator, and then apply it to the real robot.
It is necessary to develop the simulator for the test of stability and torque before the walking experiment of biped robot, because a robot may be damaged in an actual experiment. This thesis deals with the development of three-dimensional simulator for improving efficiency and safety during development and experimentation. The simulator is composed of three parts-solving dynamics, rendering pictures and communicating with the robot. In the first part, the D-H parameter and parameter of links can be loaded from the file and edited in the program. The results are obtained by using the Newton-Euler method and are stored in the file. Through the above process, the proper length of link and driving force can be found by using simulator before designing the robot. The second part is organized so that the user can easily see a specific value or a portion he wants by setting viewing parameters interactively. A robot is also shown as a shaded rendering picture in this part. In the last part, the simulator sends each desired angle of joints to the robot controller and each real angle of joints is taken from the controller and passed to the second part. The safety of the experiment is improved by driving the robot after checking whether the robot can be actuatable or not and whether the ZMP is located within the sole of the foot or not for a specific gait. The state of the robot can be easily grasped by showing the shaded rendering picture which displays the position of the ZMP, the driving force and the shape of robot.
This paper describes a robot simulator which enables a user to model a robot geometrically, and to evaluate performances of various robot control algorithms as well as to obtain physical understanding of robot and acruator dynamics. To achieve these goals, the kinematics and dynamics of a robot and interactive 3-D computer graphics which visulaize the motion of the robot were studied. The developed robot simulator consists of two parts:a dynamic simulator and a graphic simulator. To evaluate the robot simulator PUMA-560, Stanford arm, and RHINO robot were considered and a DG MV/10000 super mini-computer and an IBM-PC/XT personal computer were used.
This study proposes an articulated robot control system using an on/off-line robot graphic simulator with multiple networks. The proposed robot control system consists of a robot simulator using OpenGL, a robot controller based on a DSP(TMS320) motion board, and the server/client communication by multiple networks. Each client can control the real robot through a server and can compare the real robot motion with the virtual robot motion in the simulation. Also, all clients can check and analyze the robot motion simultaneously through the motion image and data of the real robot. In order to show the validity of the presented system, we present an experimental result for a 6-axis vertical articulated robot. The proposed robot control system is useful, especially, in the industrial fields using remote robot control as well as industrial production automation with many clients.
In this paper, a new simulator of the biped robot for planning walking patterns was showed. And this simulator(MHBiped) is able to not only visualize the plan of patterns but also verify whether a biped robot design is suitable. In addition, MHBipd can modify various kinds of walking parameters and the trajectory of biped robot. Therefore, a new biped robot can be designed easily by the this simulator before you apply to a robot. As a result, a well-balanced parameters of walking patterns watching the movement of CG and ZMP can be obtained. Walking patterns should be changed according to both the existence of obstacles and conditions of ground and it can be described by the trajectory of hip and ankles. All those trajectorys can be also obtained by the cubic spline functions and the way of modeling walking patterns. The results of simulator, the movement function of CG and ZMP, the cubic spline functions and modeling of biped robot were introduced in this paper. And the effectiveness of this simulator was confirmed by the simulations.
This paper presents the development of a simulator for an industrial robot. The simulator is characterized by a fully integrated dynamic model and a hardware oriented control scheme. The dynamic model includes the actuator dynamics as well as the manipulator dynamics to integrate the entire dynamics of the robot system. On the other hand, the control scheme is oriented as a hardware structure which is usually implemented in the industrial robot. That is to say, a conventional PI control law is used to regulate the position, the speed, and the current. A Pulse Wave Modulation (PWM)generator modulates the supplied voltage to the actuator. Since the simulator is consistent with the industrial robot system, it provides the essential design concepts for the development process of the robot. In practice, the simulator is applied to the SCARA robot which has been developed in GSIS. Here, it investigates the characteristics and performance of the robot with changing design parameters. Thus, the investigation furnishes criteria for the selection of acfuator, control gain, trajectory planning, etc.
In this paper, we introduce a biped walking robot which can do static walking with 22 degree-of-freedoms. The developed biped walking robot is 480mm tall and 2500g, and is constructed by 22 RC servo motors. Before making an active algorithm, we generate the motions of robot with a motion simulator developed using C language. The two dimensional simulator is based on the inverse kinematics and D-H transform. The simulator implements various motions as we input the ankle's trajectory. Also the simulator is developed by applying the principle of inverted pendulum to acquisite the center of gravity. As we use this simulator, we can get the best appropriate angle of ankle or pelvic when the robot lifts up its one side leg during the walking. We implement the walking motions which is based on the data(angle) getting from both of simulators. The robot can be controlled by text shaped command through RF signal of wireless modem which is connected with laptop computer by serial cable.

A graphic simulator can be a useful tool for planning gaits or dynamic behaviors to a walking pet robot. Microsoft describes robotics developer studio (MSRDS) as an end-to-end robotics development platform including simulation engine based on dynamics. In this paper, we propose a pet robot simulator (PRS), based on MSRDS, which supports interactively controlled two walking robots connected over network. To be pet robot simulator, modeling a commercial pet robot is performed and gait planning is also implemented. By using concurrency and coordination runtime (CCR) and decentralized software services (DSS) of MSRDS software platform, we connect two robots which are displayed together but controlled separately over network. The two walking pet robots can be simulated interactively by joysticks. It seems to be an internet game for pet robots.
