곡선반경과 노면상태에 따른 곡선구간 안전주행 행태분석 (A Study on the Analysis of Safe Driving Behavior on Curve Section by Curve Radius and Road Surface Condition)

  • Two experiment are planed to identify driver's safe driving behaviour by curve radius, road surface condition in curve section. At four-lane and two-lane road, conducted experiments are check on driver's feeling of safety that 30 subjects do not feel discomfort. And using the data from these experiments, this study compare physical speed (not slipping, fall our of the road) with safety driving speed(drivers felt a comfortable and safe speed) each curve radius and fiver road surface condition(drying, wet, rain, snow and ice). As a result, safe driving behaviour factors that are derived to curve radius of 100m units, five road surface conditions enable to represent quantitative analysis of driver's discomfort. This study will develop road design method and evaluation reflected ergonomic aspects.

곡선부 시각왜곡현상을 고려한 인지곡선반경 산정에 관한 연구 (Estimation of Perceived Curve Radius Considering Visual Distortion at Curve Sections)

  • 도로 곡선부에서는 운전자의 시각변화로 인해 속도변화가 크게 발생하여 직선부에 비해 상대적으로 사고심각도가 크게 나타난다. 특히, 곡선부에서 발생하는 위험요소 중 하나인 시각왜곡현상은 도로 기하구조에 따라 다르게 나타난다. 실제 곡선부 시각왜곡현상은 도로설계 시 반드시 고려되어야 하는 주요 설계요소임에도 불구하고, 이에 대한 정량적 설계기준 수립연구가 미흡한 실정이다. 이에 시각왜곡현상을 고려한 곡선부 도로 설계기준 수립이 절실히 요구되어진다. 본 연구에서는 곡선부 운전자 행태와 운전자 시각특성 및 인지곡선반경에 관한 선행 연구를 고찰하고, 지방부 2차로 곡선부 시각왜곡현상을 고려하여 수학적 기법을 적용한 이론적 인지곡선반경 모형식을 개발하였다. 또한, 이론적 인지곡선반경 모형식을 토대로 이론적 시각왜곡도를 산출한 후, 기존 연구의 경험적 시각왜곡도와 비교 분석을 통하여 이론적 인지곡선반경 모형식의 오차범위를 검증하였다. 그 결과, 이론적 인지곡선반경 모형식에서 실제 곡선반경이 증가할수록 오차범위가 감소하는 추세로 나타나 실제 도로 곡선부의 특성을 잘 반영하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과를 토대로, 향후 도로 곡선부 설계시 안전상의 결함을 사전에 제거함으로써 도로 곡선부 위험요소를 최소화하고, 인간공학적 도로설계기준 개발 향상에 이바지할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

설계일관성을 고려한 도로 곡선반경 산정에 관한 연구 (Development of Estimation of Curve Radii of Road Considering Design Consistency)

  • 차량의 주행속도는 설계일관성을 평가하는 주요한 척도로 활용되며 그 중 곡선반경은 여러 연구에서 공통적으로 제시한 주된 요인으로 나타났다. 이에 본 연구에서는 복합선형에서 설계속도별 적정 평면곡선반경 범위기준을 정립하고 운전자의 인지 행태를 나타낼 수 있는 인지반경을 정립하여 입체선형에서 적합한 평면곡선반경을 제시하고자 한다. 첫째, 본 연구에서는 저속차량의 방해요소를 최소화하기 위하여 입체선형을 고려한 도로의 임의지점에서 횡방향 미끄럼 마찰계수와 주행방향 미끄럼 마찰계수를 동시에 고려하여 설계속도와 종단경사별 평면곡선반경을 제시하였다. 둘째, 본 연구에서는 곡선부 인지반경을 통하여 평면 곡선부와 편평한 종단경사가 조합된 경우, 평면 곡선부와 종단곡선부가 조합된 경우를 비교한 후, 곡선부 인지반경을 산정하여 설계속도별 적정 평면곡선반경과 인지반경 비율을 제시하였다.

도로 기하구조와 탄소배출 저감의 연계성을 고려한 시케인 기하구조 조건의 개선에 관한 연구 (Study on Improved Road Geometry Conditions of Chicane Considering the Relationship between Road Geometry and Carbon Emissions Reduction)

  • PURPOSES: Recently, many local governments have applied chicanes for traffic calming to ensure environment-friendly comfortable and safe roads. However, the geometry of a chicane is designed for speed reduction using a curved portion. This study aims to improve the road geometry conditions of chicanes for reducing carbon emissions and maintaining appropriate driving speeds by considering the relationship between road geometry and carbon emissions. METHODS: This study was conducted as follows. First, carbon emissions corresponding to changing acceleration of vehicles were studied. Second, vehicle acceleration caused by the relationship between the curve radius and the straight length was studied. Accordingly, desirable conditions of curve radius and length of the straight section for reducing carbon emissions were proposed. RESULTS: The existing literature on chicanes present the minimum value of stagger length and path angle in the primary variable condition. This study suggests the maximum values of the curve radius and length of straight section in the primary variable condition. Therefore, if a vehicle's speed at a chicane is 30 km/h, this study suggests a curve radius of up to 24 m. In addition, if the vehicle's speed is 24 km/h, this study suggests a length of straight section of up to 6.6 m. These are the geometric conditions for considering the control of acceleration to the vehicle's maximum speed. CONCLUSIONS: This paper proposes an application of geometric conditions to reduce carbon emissions and maintain appropriate speeds of vehicles through a combination of curve radius and length of straight section.

도로곡선반경에 따른 가변전광표지의 교통안전효과 분석 (An Analysis of Safety Impacts of Variable Message Signage as Functions of Road Curve Radius)

  • PURPOSES: The purpose of this study is to estimate the impact of variable message signage (VMS) on traffic safety as a function of road curve radius using statistical methods. METHODS: In order to analyze the impact of VMS installations on traffic safety, travel speed, lateral distance, and geometric data relating to road curvature in each study area was acquired and analyzed for the impact of providing VMS information on driver performance and traffic safety using statistical methods including student t-test, Mann-Whitney test, and the Anderson-Darling test for estimating traffic safety hazard zone in each lane. RESULTS: As a result of analyzing driver performance characteristics before and after providing VMS information, it was determined that by providing VMS information, mean travel speed is deceased and vehicles are driven with increased precision, following the centerline in the first and second lanes. Also the results of analyzing traffic safety impacts of VMS indicate that traffic safety performance factors in the first lane of the Gapyeong section can, on average, increase in the left and right side of the lane by 19.22% and 68.98%, respectively, and in the case of the second lane, safety impacts, on average, can increase in both sides by 100%. For the Hongcheon section, traffic safety impacts in the first lane, on average, can increase along the left and right sides of the lane by 32.31% and 47.18%, and within the second lane, traffic safety can be increased along the left and right side of the lane by 10.97% and -0.01%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Based on the results of this study, the impact on traffic safety obtained by providing VMS information for road sections with smaller curve radii is greater than can be obtained for road sections with larger curve radii.

가상주행 시뮬레이터를 활용한 시선유도시설 효과평가 연구 (Evaluation of Effectiveness on Delineation System Using Virtual Driving Simulator)

  • PURPOSES : Traffic safety facilities are used to prevent traffic accidents before they occur by providing drivers with information on traffic situations and the geometric design of roads. However, some facilities not defined in guidelines do not meet installation criteria, yet are being installed and used in order to increase efficiency in traffic flow and prevent traffic accidents in a specific expressway zone. In this study, we have evaluated the effect of delineation system which are not defined in the guideline criteria. METHODS : Different virtual scenarios were created for roads using expressway median barrier chevron signs, with a driving simulator used to evaluate the installation and operational effect of such signs. Ten experiments were performed with left- and right-curved roads at curve radius intervals of 500 m, from 500 m to 2,500 m. RESULTS : For sections with a curve radius of more than 1,500 m, drivers had a clear tendency toward stable driving regardless of delineation system. When a chevron sign is installed on a protection fence in the road curving left, an expanded installation is recommended up to the section with a curve radius of 1,000 m. According to the analysis results for the RHB (Relative High Beta spectrum), driving concentration also improved up to a curve radius of 1,000 m. CONCLUSIONS :The experiment result indicates the extent of biasing within a lane and the manipulation amount of steering handle, were analyzed and found to be affected by curve radius and road alignment regardless of delineation system.

지방부 일반국도 4차로의 화물차 주행속도 예측모형 개발 (A Development of the Operating Speed Estimation Model of Truck on Four-lane Rural Highway)

  • PURPOSES : The purpose of the study is to a) explore the operating speed of trucks on rural highways affected by road geometry, and thereby b) develop a predictive model for the operating speed of trucks on rural highways. METHODS : Considering that most of the existing studies have focused on cars, the current study aimed to predict the operating speed of trucks by conducting linear regression analysis on the speed data of trucks operating on the linear-curved-linear portions of the road as a single set. RESULTS : The operating speed in the plane curve portion increased with the length of the curve, and decreased with a lower vertical grade and a smaller curve radius. In the straight plane portion, the operating speed increased with a larger curve radius(upstream), and decreased with an increase in the change of the vertical grade, depending on the length of the vertical curve. CONCLUSIONS : This study developed estimation models of truck for operational speed and evaluated the degree of safety for horizontal and vertical alignments simultaneous. In order to represent whole area of the rural highway, the models should be ew-analyzed with vast data related with road alignment factor in the near future.

차량(車輛)의 주행속도(走行速度)에 관계(關係)하는 임도(林道)의 구조(構造) 개선(改善) (Improvement of Forest Road Construction Related to the Running Speed of Cargo Truck)

  • 본 연구는 임도의 노선 선형이 차량의 주행속도에 마치는 영향을 규명하고, 임도의 구조를 개선할 수 있는 개선책을 제시하고자 하였다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위하여 본 연구는 기존의 임도 설계서 및 설계도면을 검토사여 연구 목적에 부합하는 임도를 선정하고, 연구대상 임도에 대해 종단물매, 노폭, 곡선반지름, 곡선길이, 곡선부의 편구배 등 노선선형 인자와 노면의 상태 등을 측정하였다. 선택된 실험차량을 이용하여 주행실험을 한 결과, 차량의 주행속도에 크게 영향을 미치는 인자는 노면의 상태, 곡선반지름, 학성물매, 곡선길이, 종단물매인 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 실험차량의 주행속도는 임도시설규정에서 제시된 설계속도에 비해 낮은 값을 나타내었으며, 적재시(적차)의 주행 속도는 비적재시(공차)에 비해 70-85%의 값을 보였다. 그리고 노면의 상태에 따라 곡선반지름과 종단물매의 증가에 따른 주행속도의 변화를 식으로 나타낼 수 있었다. 이러한 연구의 결과는 가존의 임도 뿐만 아니라 향후 개설될 임도의 질을 판단하고, 임도에서의 주행속도를 개선시킬 수 있는 임도 구조의 선택을 가능하게 할 것으로 생각된다.

복합선형 사고예측모형 개발에 관한 연구 (A Development of the Accident Prediction Models Considering Compound Curves)

  • The main point of this study is to find ways to prevent accidents at complex linear sections in advance by improving geometric structure elements that can be considered from the designing stage. Complex linear roads are consisted of sections where straight sections connect with curved sections or sections where curved sections connect with curved sections with relatively high possibility of accidents and accidents can be reduced through improving designing elements in these sections. Therefore, this study aims to develop accident forecasting model in complex linear roads and to clarify major elements affecting traffic accidents. The results of analysis showed that the groups are divided into a group less than 355m based on curve radius of 355m, a group whose curve radius exceeds 355m and a group whose incline exceeds -0.79 and a group whose curve radius is below 355m and incline exceeds -0.79 for straight section + curved section, and for curved section + curved section, it is divided into a group whose first curved section is less than 410m based on curve radius of 410m and the first curve is turning right and a group exceeding 410m and the first curve is turning left. The major variables common in 2 models are front curve radius and curve types(left, right), road surfaces, weather.
