In this study, the baseflow indices in Nakdong river watershed and the whole country's river were calculated by using SWAT model and PART method. The annual averaged baseflow in the Nakdong river watershed was estimated at 40% - 44% of the total discharge rate, and it is found to be higher than 90% during the winter months of December and January. An analysis of the baseflow index from 317 gauge stations across the country revealed that the contribution of baseflow to the nation's stream flow rate stood at an annual average of 40%, ranging from less than 20% to over 80% by region. Also, the impact of the decreasing baseflow due to land use changes in 1975 and 2000 was analyzed in Keumhogang river watershed under the same weather conditions. The results revealed that the number of days under the standard instream flow increased by 19-24 days as a result of the increase in the urbanization rate.

This study has been carried out to clarify the characteristics of discharge and pollutant loading according to flow conditions at jiseok stream watershed (JSW). A flow rate and pollutant load in the study watershed were estimated by equation of stage-discharge and discharge-loads rating curve. By using the methods above, I've evaluated the water quality (WQ) of the JSW if it is satisfied with the standard target. I've collected the data of BOD and T-P from the JSW every 8 days for the duration of 12 months. And then, I've schematized the data upon the load duration curve and the results showed me that the WQ of JSW was satisfied with the standard target. I've also collected the same data every each day for the duration of 12 months from JSW and have schematized the data again. And the results showed that it also was satisfied with the standard target. To be concluded, I've determined that point pollution sources of JSW gives more significant impacts to the WQ than non-point pollution sources of JSW and hence, as time goes, point pollution sources will keep depriciating the WQ of JSW. Therefore, further efforts will be required to JSW to maintain the WQ.

As the average indicator for amount of water flowing in any cross section of a river, the mean discharge has been reported to be a very important factor for examining water circle constructions in a river basin, the design and construction of a hydraulic structure, and water front area use and management. The stage-discharge curve based on discharge and stage data measured in a normal season were basically derived. Using this derivation, the necessary discharge data was obtained. The values produced in this manner corresponded to the measured data in a uniform flow state well, but showed limited accuracy in a flood season (unsteady flow). In the present paper, the mean velocity in unsteady flow conditions, which exhibited loop form properties, was estimated using the new mean velocity formula derived from Chiu's 2-D velocity. The results of RMSE and Polar graph analyses showed that the proposed equation exhibited approximately nineteen times the accuracy compared to the Manning and Chezy equations.
On the subject of Yeoungsan River Yeoungbon c and Seumjin River Seumbon e site discussing as the measuring points of discharge and Quality by the Department of Environment, this study executes the tests of proprieties and examines the methods of flow measuring and assessment. The result of this study may summarize as belows. According to the hydrogeomorphological aspects and artificial effects, Yeoungbon c and Seumbon e site are not proper for the measuring points of the water levels. Also, the methods of river discharge measuring by the specific discharge method, first tried in this study, has an enough reliability which can be used to measure the site where is difficult to measure the flow directly or to select the representative site to measure on the up and downstream. In case of accumulating the specific discharge data throughout the flow observation by seasons and periods for a long time, these may be used to measure the flow as well.
In this study, we estimated, the equivalent roughness using an estimation model, which considered grain distribution on the bed and the protrusion height of the grains. We also reviewed the appropriateness of the estimated equivalent roughness at the Goksung and Gurey station in the Seomjin River. To review the appropriateness of this model, we presented the water level-discharge relation curve applying the equivalent roughness to the flow model and compared and reviewed it to observed data. Also, we compared and reviewed the observed data by estimating the Manning coefficient n, the Chezy coefficient C, and the Darcy-Weisbach friction coefficient f by the equivalent roughness. The calculation results of the RMSE showed within 5% error range in comparison with observed value. Therefore the estimated equivalent roughness values by the model could be proved appropriate.

This paper presents a hydraulic performance graph model in which the flow carrying capacity of a channel system was determined by accounting the interacting backwater effect among channel reaches and incoming lateral flow. The method utilizes hydraulic performance graphs (HPGs), and the method is applied to a natural channel Nakdong River to examine its applicability. This research shows that estimation results using HPG are close to records from the stage station and the results from a widely-accepted model, HEC-RAS. Assuming that a water level gage site is ungaged, water level estimations by HPGs compared with observation show that with a flood event, the HPGs underestimate in the water level ascension phase, but in the recession phase they overestimate results. The accuracy of estimation with HPGs was greatly improved by considering the time difference of flooding between the observation and estimation locations.

For estimating the minimum discharge to maintain a river, low flow analysis is required and long term runoff records are needed for the analysis. However, runoff data should be estimated to run a hydrologic model for ungaged river basin. For the reason, parameter estimation is crucial to simulate rainfall-runoff events for those basins using Tank model. In this study, only runoff data recorded for dry season are used for parameter estimation, which is different to other methods based on runoff data recorded for wet and dry seasons. The Harmony Search algorithm is used to determine the optimum parameters for Tank model. The coefficient of determination ($R^2$) is served as the objective function in the Harmony Search. In cases that recorded data are insufficient, the recording interval is changed and Empirical CDF is adopted to analyze the estimated parameters. The suggested method is applied to Yongdam dam, Soyanggang dam, Chungju dam and Seomjingang dam basins. As results, the higher $R^2s$ are obtained when the shorter recording interval, the better recorded data quality, and the more rainfall events recorded along with certain rainfall amount is. Moreover, when the total rainfall is higher than the certain amount, $R^2$ is high. Considering the facts found from this study for the low flow analysis, it is possible to estimate the parameters for Tank model properly with the desired confidence level.

To provide the basic information for the water quality management of the Sumjin River Basin, delivery ratios for flow duration were studied. Using the day-interval data set of discharge and water quality observed from the Chooryeong-cheon watershed, the flow-duration and discharge-load relation curves for the watershed were established, then the load-duration curve was constructed. Delivery ratios for flow duration were also developed. Delivery ratios showed wide variation according to flow conditions. In general, delivery ratio of high flow condition showed higher value reflecting nonpoint source pollution contribution from the forest dominating watershed. To resolve this problem, a regression model explaining the relation between flow rate and delivery ratio was suggested. The delivery ratios for different flow regime could be used for pollutant load estimation and TMDL (Total maximum daily load) development.

Rain events are extremely important for phosphorus (P) dynamics in rivers since large portions of annual river P loads can be transported in particulate forms during only a few major events. Despite their importance, a precise estimation of P contribution in river sediments after rainy seasons has rarely been reported. This study estimated the longitudinal variation in the concentrations of different inorganic P fractions in bed sediments of the South Han River over a rainy season, through using the sequential extraction method. Non-apatite P was the dominant form, representing more than 60% of total inorganic P (TIP) content in sediments. Although no significant variation of TIP contents was observed, the proportion of bioavailable P in TIP pools decreased after the rainy season. The concentrations of individual inorganic P fractions ($NH_4Cl-P$, $NH_4F-P$, NaOH-P, and $H_2SO_4-P$) were significantly different across sites and after the rainy season (p < 0.05, two-way ANOVA). $NH_4F-P$ and NaOH-P concentrations in sediments increased in a downstream direction. After the rainy season, $NH_4Cl-P$ concentrations in sediments decreased whereas $NH_4F-P$ and $H_2SO_4-P$ concentrations increased. The redistribution of individual P fractions in sediments observed after rainy seasons were possibly due to the changing contribution of various sources of runoff and the variation in flow related particle size. Current estimation of P in bed sediments of the South Han River suggests a lower potential of internal P loading from sediments after the rainy season.
The purpose of this paper is to estimate the instream flow of the South Han River Basin to ensure an adequate supply of suitable quality of water for preservation and enhancement of aquatic ecosystems. Proposed methods is Physical Habitant Simulation System of Instream Flow Incremental Methodology. Accurate estimation on a water depth and a velocity distribution was acquired by applying a two dimensional hydrodynamic model for a simulation of a hydraulic parameter necessary for the habitat evaluation to be used in a physical habitat simulation system. The Habitat Suitability Criteria with the application of univariate curve on zacco platypus as a representative fish was able to be established by conducting a field investigation. The establishment of a hydrological materialistic balance between upper and lower streams was confirmed by conducting a simulation simultaneously together with a mainstream section, which was excluded from the considered sections for the inhabitation evaluation of fish.
