  • From the direct outflow of Chungju Dam to the junction of water body and watershed in Paldang lake is the scope of this research. This study performed to investigate the main cause of water quality deterioration and the influenced region in the middle field range of the Namhan river Basin with the onsite measurement of water quality and flow rate simultaneously during spring dry season. The purpose of this study is to find out the time-spatial variation characteristics of water quality and flow rate. Following the flow direction $BOD_5$ and $COD_{Mn}$ concentration increased to the highest value of 3.7 mg/L, 5.9 mg/L at Wolgesa respectively. Chl.a concentration increased to $50mg/m^3$ or so at Kangsang, after that it decreased to $37mg/m^3$ at the junction of Paldang lake. Organic matter concentration variation trend showed similar than that of Chl.a. Also $BOD_5$ concentration tendency was similar to Chl.a in every measuring sites except Paldang lake mixing zone. The major factors of water quality deterioration in Namhan river and Paldang lake during dry season were algal bloom and followed internal production. High phosphorus load from Dalcheon and Seom river caused dry season algal bloom and internal production in transitional zone which was stagnant area in downstream of Namhan river.

  • This study aimed at the introduction of desktop method for assessment of environmental flows developed by International Water Management Institute (IWMI) recently and its application to Geum river basin. This scheme simulated the influence on aquatic ecosystem caused by watershed development and in turn the decrease of water quantity keeping the river's own flow regime. It was found to be as very effective method although it had simple structure. Flow duration curves for different environmental classes at Sutong and Gongjoo sites were estimated according to the natural conditional scenario of Geum river basin and the results were relatively compared well with the previous studies. The behaviors of monthly average runoff time series of both sites showed the level of A class. The results of this study would provide the fundamental data to establish the future plans of monitoring or management for aquatic ecosystem of Geum river basin.

  • This study focuses on whether a physical habitat model, River2D, is useful to assess and design stream restoration. To achieve the aim, the habitat suitability for Zacco Platypus was analyzed using River2D at midstream of the Anyang-Cheon through modifying the low flow channel and changing the flow discharge. The River2D simulation results show that the inhabited environment for Zacco Platypus is improved by increasing the sinuosity of the low flow channel, and vice versa. Also the inhabited environment for Zacco Platypus gets worse when there is no additional flow for maintenance water supply at the stream flowing through cities. In this respect, the physical habitat simulation study based on the River2D model is useful because it provides a practical guidance in designing stream restoration.

  • This study aims at investigating the failure cases of the pre-cast block system in river environments which widely used nowadays and reviewing the effect and flow resistance for grass concrete structure through the physical experiments by hydraulic model test and developing application method in river slope or levee which has rigid flood resistance. Grass concrete structure has been independently tested under high velocity flow under the super critical condition, it survived the 8 m/sec maximum flow velocity. This results shows grass concrete system is also suited to use in aggressive river environments such as repairing a flood damaged embankment that had placed at risk the adjacent drainage channel with vegetation.

  • This study aims at the calculation of a variation of flow characteristics of main channel for tributary inflow in river junction. So this study was analyzed the variation of flow depth and velocity in main channel for a change of inflow degree. For this purpose, FLDWAV model are carried out for variations of $30^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$ tributary inflow at junction. Results show that velocity ratio(V1/V3) increases and flow depth ratio(H1/H3) decreases for discharge ratio(Q1/Q3) of upstream and downstream when degree increases in junction. And FLDWAV model was applied at a real river junctions. Selected area is a junction of Gumho river and Sin stream. Results show that pattern is similar to a virtual channel.

  • The Yellow River began ceasing affected by natural factors and the unreasonable human activities. The flow broke in the Yellow River and water and sediment flowing into the sea decreased, which lowered the speed of newly formed wetland extending to the sea. The water environment deteriorated; Its composing structure tended to be unsteady; The biologic diversity decreased and wetland function reduced. To ensure that the Yellow River delta and its ecosystem develops sustainablly, it is significant to reduce times and days of the ceasing, keep certain runoff and sediments in the river to the sea and make its watercourse stable.

  • The enlargement and reduction of river channels can not only change the flow of water but also alter sedimentation patterns, thus hindering smooth flood conveyance. Accordingly, this study aims to analyze the effects of the sudden enlargement of river channels on changes in the riverbed and river flow. For this purpose, as part of the "Hometown River" Construction Project, this study examined the local river Kyungpo-cheon, which a section of the river channel was widened by at least two- to three-fold, using RMA-2 and SED-2D models to simulate the changes in flow characteristics and riverbed variation due to the widening of the channel. The results of the study indicated that widening the Kyungpo -cheon river channel secured its dimensional stability in comparison to before widening. however, due to a flood frequency of more than once per year, future maintenance and management will be costly and time-consuming.

  • Natural hydrology systems, including high flow and low flow events, are important for aquatic ecosystem health and are essential for controlling the structure and function of ecological processes in river ecosystems. Ecosystem responses to flow changes have been studied in a variety of ways, but little attention has been given to how episodic typhoons and atmospheric circulation patterns can change these hydrologic regime-ecological response relationships. In this diagnostic study, we use an empirical approach to investigate the salient features of interactions between atmospheric circulation, climate, and runoff in the five major Korean river basins.

  • The river cross section in the input/output data which are needed in the area of river flow analysis is very important factor. The bottom elevation of actual river cross section has to be correctly reflected to obtain correct results when two dimensional flow analysis is conducted for natural river. But to reflect virtually the bottom elevation of river cross section is impossible. The objective of this study is to suggest a method for creating equi-distance river cross section by using both HEC section and ArcView and constructing the finite element mesh. The main channels of Han and Nakdong river were selected and equi-distance river cross sections constructed in this study have shown good agreement with the observed river cross sections. In addition, high quality finite element meshes can be applied to many areas of study such as finite element analysis for water quality and two dimensional flow analysis using the suggested method for equi-distance river cross sections in this study.

  • Recently, Water quiality of urban river largely have gotten better by virtue of sewer pipe laying and sewage treatment plants construction. or the various contaminants which is flowed in into river have generated underwater ecosystem disturbance and red tide by lack of sewage and waste water disposal facilities. With tidal river, taehwa river of ulsan metropolitan city has large river width and gradual stream bed gradient at the dry and storage period. Moreover, the flow is paralyzed due to the bridge pier protection work, consist of the mat foundation which is about 1.2km from two bridge and the contaminant is accumulated. it is caused by of the red tide generated from the several years or it activates. In this study, When flow area is largest by changing independent footing of bridge pier of two bridges and using RMA2 model, we hydraulically analyzed a variable breadth of velocity and discharge. Consequently, flow rate increased the maximum 103%, discharge was exposed to increase the maximum 61%. Directly this cannot extinguish the red tide but suppresses the red tide occurrence or can reduce. And it is determined to prevent the depositioning of the contaminant and can control fundamentally the red tide occurrence cause.
