Wetland conservation plan has been established to protect ecologically important wetlands based on vegetation integrity, spatial distribution of endangered species, but recently more demands are concentrated on the landscape ecological approaches such as topological relationship, neighboring area, spatial arrangements between wetlands at the broad scale. Landscape ecological analysis and graph theory are conducted to identify spatial characteristics related to core nodes and weak links of wetland networks in Nakdong basin. Regular planar model, which is selected for wetland networks, is applied in the Nakdong basin. The analysis indicates that 5 regional groups and 4 core wetlands are extracted with 15km threshold distance. The IIC and PC values based on the binary and probability models suggest that the wetland group C composed of main stream of Nakdong river and Geumho river is the most important area for wetland network. Wetland conservation plan, restoration projected of damaged and weak links between wetlands should be proposed through evaluating the node, links, and networks from wetlands at the local to the regional scale in Nakdong basin.
In this study, we characterized the seasonal variation of rainrate fields in the Han river basin using the WGR multi-dimensional precipitation model (Waymire, Gupta, and Rodriguez-Iturbe, 1984) by estimating and comparing the parameters derived for each month and for the plain area, the mountain area and overall basin, respectively. The first-and second-order statistics derived from observed point gauge data were used to estimate the model parameters based on the Davidon-Fletcher-Powell algorithm of optimization. As a result of the study, we can find that the higher rainfall amount during summer is mainly due to the arrival rate of rain bands, mean number of cells per cluster potential center, and raincell intensity. However, other parameters controlling the mean number of rain cells per cluster, the cellular birth rate, and the mean cell age are found invariant to the rainfall amounts. In the application to the downstream plain area and upstream mountain area of the Han river basin, we found that the number of storms in the mountain area was estimated a little higher than that in the plain area, but the cell intensity in the mountain area a little lower than that in the plain area. Thus, in the mountain area more frequent but less intense storms can be expected due to the orographic effect, but the total amount of rainfall in a given period seems to remain the same.

A recent unusual change in the weather is formed as a localized heavy rain in a short time. This phenomenon has caused a flash flood, and flash floods extensively have damaged human lives many times. In large river's case, the extent of loss of lives and properties has been decreased through the flood warning system by flood control stations of each stream. However, the extent of damage in other small rivers has increased reversely. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a new flood warning system against flash floods instead of the existing flood warning system. It is a specific character that the damage from flash floods in mountain streams brings much more loss of lives than large river's flood. The purpose of this study is calculating the characteristic of flash floods in streams, analyzing topographical characteristics of water basin through applying GIS techniques with the calculation as mentioned above and researching what topographical conditions have influence on hydrological flash floods in water basin. The flash flood prediction model we used is made by GIUH (geomorphoclimatic instantaneous unit hydrograph) with hydrologic-topographical technology. As applying the flash flood prediction model, this is a procedure for calculating topographical information in basin: we made a topological data up out of database with utilizing GIS, and we also produced a DEM (digital elevation model) and used it as a topographical data for determining amount of flash floods.
This study proposes a new methodology to derive the areal reduction factor (ARF) using mixed probability density functions. Estimation of ARFs requires using the simultaneous rainfall data over the basin, which is rarely available in general. The new methodology Proposed in this study uses more available daily rainfall data during a given period, so the mixed probability density functions should be introduced to explain both the rainfall intermittency and variability. This study applied the mixed gamma distribution for the derivation of ARFs for the Keum river basin, and found that the new method is easier for application as well as it provides very comparable results.
This study is runoff analysis of the recently urbanized San Bon basin. The relationships between peak discharge and total discharge were examined by applying the ILLUDAS runoff analysis model to the measured data. In urbanized streams, it is found that channel adjustment had the most significant effect on the increase of peak discharge. Significant increases in the peak discharge occurred as rainfall duration or return period increases 10% and 7~16% increases in peak discharge were observed when the roughness coefficient were 0.04 and 0.015, respectively. When the natural river channel with n=0.04 was converted into a sewerage system of n=0.015 the peak discharge was greatly increased by 51~158%, Generally, flood peak discharge was increased during heavy rain, but in the case of urbanized basin, river stage was reduced owing to an increase of flow velocity by the adjustment of drainage system.

Recently, the research that analyze topography parameters that need in hydrology analysis using GIS techniques is achieved. DEM that is used in topography analysis can be constructed effectively using contour data of digital map. Therefore, DEM's applicability is increasing gradually in several fields. In this study, DEM of 20∼l00m grid size was applied PYONGCHANG river and JUBANG river basin to analyze what effect DEM grid size causes about slope and drainage watershed at topography parameter extraction. This study drew a regression equation about slope change by DEM grid size. As a result, according as DEM grid size increases, slope decreases, and basin area could know that is not change almost.

The study will quantify the total uncertainties in streamflow and precipitation projections for Upper Awash River Basin located in central Ethiopia. Three hydrological models (GR4J, CAT, and HBV) will be used to simulate the streamflow considering two emission scenarios, six high-resolution GCMs, and two downscaling methods. The readily available hydrometeorological data will be applied as an input to the three hydrological models and the potential evapotranspiration will be estimated using the Penman-Monteith Method. The SCE-UA algorithm implemented in PEST will be used to calibrate the three hydrological models. The total uncertainty including the incremental uncertainty at each stage (emission scenarios and model) will be presented after assessing a total of 24 (=$2{\times}6{\times}2$) high-resolution precipitation projections and 72 (=$2{\times}6{\times}2{\times}3$) streamflow projections for the study basin. Finally, the primary causes that generate uncertainties in future climate change impact assessments will be identified and a conclusion will be made based on the finding of the study.
The variation of streamflow is regarded as one of the most influential factors on the fluctuation of water quality in the stream. The characteristics of the variation should be taken into account in the plans for the management of Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs). This study analysed and characterized spatial distribution and temporal variation of streamflow at each unit watershed in Guem-river basin. For the analysis of the distribution of streamflow, the type and the extent of the distribution were investigated for the unit watershed. For the analysis of the variation, short and long term changes of streamflow were examined. The result showed that most of the distributions were not log-normalized and the extent of variation tends to be greater at the unit watershed placed on the tributaries in the basin. A kind of margin could be granted to the unit watershed involving high variations so as to establish the water quality goal and load allotment more reasonably and effectively in view of whole waterbody.
This paper presents a hydrologic method of probabilistic design flood calculation for ungauged small river basins. It is based on the study and analysis of the physiographic characteristics of the river basin for which stream flow records may not be available. Rainfall data is used at nearby station which has the rainfall intensity-duration-frequency relations. Musim cheon, second tributary of the Guem river, is selected for the sample study. Design floods for the stream reaches are computed by the Rational formula, the runoff coefficients being determined with the physiographic data such as soil type, land use and vepetal covers. Derived unit hydrograph at conneted main river basin is used to compute the peak flood discharge. Kajiyama formula and modified Kajiyama formula are used to calculated the most probable maximum flood discharge. The result of this study shows that synthesized unit hydrograph method is more accurate and applicable way to com pute design flood for ungauged small river basins.
This study has performed flood routing computations considering the upstream and intermediate dams in Han River using DAMBRK. Hypothetical reservoirs with variable dimensions are used to compare the validity of the reservoir routing methods, that are storage routing and dynamic routing. The flood events in September, 1990 and August, 1995 are used to verify the applicability of the model. The model performs the flood analysis more accurately considering multiple dam effects in Han River. The methodologies presented in this study will give a good contribution for basin-wide flood forecasting in Han River basin.
