  • Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have attracted much interest for their high energy density (>150 mAh/g), high capacity, low self-discharge rate, and high coulombic efficiency. However, with the successful commercialization of LIBs, fire and explosion incidents are likely to increase. The thermal runaway is known as the major factor in battery-related accidents that can lead to a series of critical conditions. Considering this, recent studies have shown an increased interest in countering the safety issues associated with LIBs. Although safety standards for LIB use have recently been formulated, little attention has been paid to the safety around the manufacturing process for battery products. The present study introduces a risk assessment method suitable for assessing the safety of the LIB-manufacturing process. In the assessment method, a compensation parameter (Z-factor) is employed to correctly evaluate the process's safety on the basis of the type of material (e.g., metal anode, liquid electrolyte, solid-state electrolytes) utilized in a cell. The proposed method has been applied to an 18650 cell-manufacturing process, and three sub-processes have been identified as possibly vulnerable parts (risk index: >4). This study offers some crucial insights into the establishment of safety standards for battery-manufacturing processes.

  • The purpose of this article was to examine the influence of physical environment on customer's buying-risk perception at franchise Korean restaurants. In this research factor analysis and multi regression analysis were used. Physical environment were divided to 3 factors and risk perception to 5 factors. Internal environment affected negatively financial risk (p<0.001), time risk (p<0.001) and psychological risk (p<0.001). External environment had negative influence on time risk (p<0.05) and psychological risk (p<0.05). And the other environment negatively affected financial risk (p<0.001), time risk (p<0.001) and psychological risk (p<0.05). According to these results, we confirmed that various physical environments influenced on the risk perception of customers. As a result, food service corporations need to deal with physical environment efficiently. And the findings of this research would help their business management to build effective service marketing strategies and to satisfy the needs of customers at franchise Korean restaurants.

  • Identifying validated risk factors in software risk management is imperative for project managers. Although validated risk lists were provided by previous researchers, risk list associated with software project performance areas was not provided as yet. This paper represents a first step toward understanding risk lists by various project performance areas (time, cost, and quality) to help project managers alleviating the possibility of software project failure. Four simultaneous exploratory surveys were conducted with 29 experienced software project managers. Three different risk factor ranking sets for each project performance area were compared with, the risk ranking, which was provided without clarifying specific project performance areas. The risk lists and their corresponding perceived importance were different from previous research results. This implies that identifying risk factors for specific project performance areas can provide additional information for project managers. We concluded by discussing implications of our finds for both research and improving risk management practice.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders and ergonomic risk factors for workers of printing business. A self-reporting survey and task analysis using video camera were performed to identify ergonomic risk factors associated with musculoskeletal disorders. We used the OWAS, RULA, and REBA methods to quantify the risk factors, and the results show that the printing business have high risk of work-related musculoskeletal disorders.

  • Since cooperatives consist of many distinct members in the management environment and characteristics, it is necessary to make similar cooperatives into a few groups for the effective risk management of cooperatives' mutuality bank. This paper is a priori research for suggesting a guidance for effective risk management of cooperatives with different management strategy. For such purpose, we propose a way to group the members of cooperative's mutuality bank. The 30 continuous variables which is relative to cooperatives' management status are considered and six factors are extracted from those variables through factor analysis with empirical consideration to avoid wrong grouping and to enhance the practical interpretation. Based on extracted six factors and additional 3 categorical variables, six representative groups are derived by the two step clustering analysis. These findings are useful to execute a discriminatory risk management and other management strategy for a mutuality bank and others.

  • Today we are observing a lot of injuries, casualties, and property losses that are mainly caused by the defects of products. In order to derive safety designs, which minimize the possibility of such product liability-related accidents, we need to take into account the user-product interaction as an important part of the danger factor analysis. Existing risk analysis techniques, however, have some limitations in detecting comprehensive danger factors that are peculiarly involved in human errors and the functional defects of products. Researches on danger factor analysis regarding the user-product interaction have been carried out actively in ergonomics. In this paper, we suggest a novel product risk analysis technique, which is more objective and systematic compared to the previous ones, by combining a modified TAFEI (Task Analysis For Error Identification) technique with SASA (Systematic Approach to Accident Scenario Analysis) technique. By applying this technique to the product design practice in industry, corporations will be able to improve the product safety, consequently strengthening the competitiveness.

  • This study aimed to investigate protective factors and risk factors in elementary students' life satisfaction. Participants were 2844 (1524 boys, 1320 girls) children who grades were 4th, 5th, 6th in KYPS (Korea Youth Panel Survey). Data mining decision tree model was performed with sex, appearance, delinquency, family income, attachment to parents, parental monitoring, attachment to teachers, academic achievement, peer delinquency, and attachments to peer. The results revealed that : (1) For 4th graders, academic achievement, attachment to parents, and appearance were significant predictors for life satisfaction. (2) For 5th graders, attachment to parents, academic achievement, parental monitoring and appearance were significant predictors for life satisfaction. (3) For 6th graders, attachment to parents, appearance, parental monitoring and delinquency were significant predictors for life satisfaction. Protective factors and risk factors were changed according to interactions between significant independent variables. These results suggest that children's diverse conditions should be considered individually in programs for children's life satisfaction.

  • The data mining is a new approach to extract useful information through effective analysis of huge data in numerous fields. We utilized this data mining technique to analyze medical record of 35,671 people. Whole data were assorted by BMI score and divided into two groups. We tried to find out BMI risk factor from overweight group by analyzing the raw data with data mining approach. The result extracted by C5.0 decision tree method showed that important risk factors for BMI score are triglyceride, gender, age and HDL cholesterol. Odds ratio of major risk factors were calculated to show individual effect of each factors.
