  • Purpose : This study was tried to evaluate the effect of the partial body fractionated irradiation on the frequency of chromosomal aberration. Materials and Methods : In three patients with uterine cervix carcinoma, chromosomal aberrations were analyzed during fractionated external beam radiotherapy Radiation field included whole pelvis and total dose was 5040 cGy in 28 fractions. Results : The values of the frequency of dicentrics and rings (Ydr) in pre-irradiated peripheral lymphocytes in three patients were 0.0060, 0.0000, and 0.0029, respectively. The frequency of dicentrics and rings, estimated during the course of radiotherapy, increased with radiation dose and best fitted to the linear equation, $Ydr=7.31{\times}10^{-5}D(cGy)+1.45{\times}10^{-2}$. The frequency of dicentrics and rings among the cells with dicentric and/or ring(Qdr) also showed increasing tendency and best fitted to the linear equation, $Qdr=1.01{\times}10^{-4}D(cGy)+1.04$. Conclusion : Ydr increased linearly with radiation dose in the dose range of our study, and Qdr showed increasing tendency with dose.

  • Since the first underground LNG tank was constructed in Incheon, continuously many LNG tanks were constructed in Tongyoung and Pyongtaek. The storage capacity of LNG tank increased by 200,000kl and the structure size and the concrete mixing design has changed. The crack of concrete induced by the heat of hydration is a serious problem, particularly in massive concrete structures. In order to control the thermal crack of massive concrete, the low heat portland cement(type Ⅳ) is applied to bottom annular part, bottom central part, lower walls and ring beam. In this study, in order to thermal crack control about the LNG tank wall(lot 8 of #16 Pyongtaek LNG tank) in winter, analysed the concrete temperature, the extention of term, the curing condition and the concrete mixing design. When the concrete mixing design is changed from OPC+FA25% to LHC+FA25%, the thermal crack index is 1.33 and satisfied with construction specifications(over 1.2).

  • In this paper, a high-power and low-loss stripline 10-way power divider is designed and fabricated fur the feed network of an S-band linear array antenna with Chebyshev current distribution which has a narrow beam width and low side lobe level(SLL) of 35 dB or more. The unit cell of the power divider is based on a T-junction power divider and the whole divider is comprised of the cascaded unit cells. The multi-stage impedance transformer and modified ring hybrid are used in designing the power divider for performance improvement. And the reflection loss and insertion loss are improved by modifying a connector structure for a coaxial-to-stripline transition.

  • A inclined slot-excited plasma source is newly designed and constructed for higher flux HNB(Hyperthermal Neutral Beam) generation. The present source is different from the vertical SLAN(SLot ANtenna) sources [1] in two aspects. One is that the slots are inclined, and the other is that the magnetic field is configured to a cusp type. These modifications are intended to make the source plasma operated in sub-milli-torr pressure regime and as thin as possible, both of which is to get higher HNB flux by decreasing the re-ionization rate of the reflected atoms from the neutralizer [2]. The plasma is generated in a quartz tube of internal diameter 170 mm enclosed in a aluminum application chamber of larger diameter 250 mm. The microwave power is fed to the plasma chamber by 8 inclined slots cut into the application chamber wall. The slots are coupled the chamber to a WR280 waveguide wound around it to form a ring resonator. In order to make two slots $\lambda_g/2$ apart in phase, the adjacent slots are rotated in opposite directions. The rotation angle of the slots are set to $60^{\circ}$ from the chamber axis. Between the quartz chamber and the aluminum cylindrical chamber 8 NdFeB magnets are equally spaced and fixed to form the cusp magnetic field confinement and ECR (Electron Cyclotron Resonance) field. In this presentation, the magnetic and electromagnetic simulations, and the measured plasma parameters are given for both the inclined and the vertical slot-excited plasma sources. We also discuss how the sources can be tailored to suit better-performing HNB sources.

  • In this paper, an active antenna module operating in the 60 GHz band is designed and fabricated by combining a commercial transmitter chip and patch array antenna. The designed module is composed of an antenna PCB and a PCB with a transmitter chip. The frequency-control and bias-control signals are applied to the transmitter chip, using an Arduino kit. A baseband I/Q signal is also applied to the chip. A ring hybrid balun converts the output of the transmitter module to a single output, which is the output of the transmitter chip that outputs a differential output. The output is delivered to the $2{\times}4$ microstrip patch array antenna PCB as a micro-computer connector. The radiation pattern of the millimeter-wave signal of the final output is compared with the simulation results. The measured radiation patterns of the fabricated active antenna module confirm that the positions of the 3 dB beam width and null point agree well with the simulation results.

  • Purpose: We have performed SRS (stereotactic radiosurgery) for avm (arterry vein malformation) and brain cancer. In order to verify dose and localization of SRS, dose distributions from TPS ($X-Knife^{(R)}$ 3.0, Radionics, USA) and GafChromic $EBT^{(R)}$ film in a head phantom were compared. Materials and Methods: In this study, head and neck region of conventional humanoid phantom was modified by substituting one of 2.5 cm slap with five 0.5 cm acrylic plates to stack the GafChromic $EBT^{(R)}$ film slice by slice with 5 mm intervals. Four films and five acrylic plates were cut along the contour of head phantom in axial plane. The head phantom was fixed with SRS head ring and adapted SRS localizer as same as real SRS procedure. CT images of the head phantom were acquired in 5 mm slice intervals as film interval. Five arc 6 MV photon beams using the SRS cone with 2 cm diameter were delivered 300 cGy to the target in the phantom. Ten small pieces of the film were exposed to 0, 50, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900 cGy, respectively to calibrate the GafChromic $EBT^{(R)}$ film. The films in the phantom were digitized after 24 hours and its linearity was calibrated. The pixel values of the film were converted to the dose and compared with the dose distribution from the TPS calculation. Results: Calibration curve for the GafChromic $EBT^{(R)}$ film was linear up to 900 cGy. The R2 value was better than 0.992. Discrepancy between calculated from $X-Knife^{(R)}$ 3.0 and measured dose distributions with the film was less than 5% through all slices. Conclusion: It was possible to evaluate every slice of humanoid phantom by stacking the GafChromic EBT film which is suitable for 2 dimensional dosimetry, It was found that film dosimetry using the GafChromic $EBT^{(R)}$ film is feasible for routine dosimetric QA of stereotactic radiosurgery.

  • Considering that decision in conservation treatment for damaged objects should consider not only various options of methodology of intervention but also possible consequences of different types of intervention, it is a difficult task to decide and propose clear and safest solution of preserving an object. In addition, it should be constantly challenged by conservators even if it is proved technique or methodology in a past treatment. Therefore, there is no absolute solution which can be applied to all practice but each decision can be different case by case. It is not possible to estimate the way how the present condition of material and environmental aspects would affect to the condition of an object in future. However if conservators keep trying to set out various ways of analysing pro and against effect of past treatments, it would be able to provide useful logics of proving efficiency and appropriateness of a certain treatment. Understanding that the advantage of laser technique is to adopt a way of cleaning an object without making a direct contact, which is different from other techniques, this paper aims at securing stability of laser techniques, although it remains a limitation in the compatibility to all other materials. This study has examined reacting process on the painted pigments against laser beam by using CLSM in order for it to display both the problems from such reacting process and the efficiency of it as a cleaning methodology. It has intended to estimate the result of laser techniques and propose the range of applicability.
