스토리형 그림책 속의 삽화 디자인의 시간적 표현 연구 (Research on the Spatial Expression Characteristics of illustration in Picture Books)

  • 본 논문은 그림책 속의 삽화가 시간적 표현에 어떻게 작용하는지에 대해 연구 및 분석을 진행하였고, 스토리형 그림책을 주된 연구 범위로 두었다. 그림책 속의 시간을 포인트 타임, 타임라인 및 타임 리듬으로 분류하였고 시간적 표현 요소, 그림 구성, 그림 시퀀스 등의 사례를 통해 분석 결과를 얻어냈다. 우선 시간적 상징 요소는 포인트 타임과 타임 리듬을 상징하는 데 이용된다. 실물 시간 상징 요소는 시간과 시간의 연상을 불러일으키는 사물을 직접 표현할 수 있다는 점이다. 색채의 상징 요소는 시간의 범위 내에서 객관적인 세계의 색채 변화에 대응하고 빛과 그림자의 대비현상은 하루 중의 시간적 변화에 대응한다. 빠르게 이동하는 물체는 점선이나 모호한 선으로 표현하고 정지되어 있거나, 안정적이거나, 느리게 움직이는 물체는 실선으로 묘사한다. 다음으로 그림책 속 삽화의 화면 구성은 타임라인의 내용을 표현하는데 매우 적합하며 스토리 전개의 선후 순서 혹은 인과적 관계를 표현한다. 화면 구성의 기술은 시각적 인도, 스플릿 필드(spilt field), 독서 습관에 부합성 이 세 가지로 요약할 수 있다. 마지막으로 그림 시퀀스는 타임 라인, 타임 리듬과 공시성(synchronicity)을 표현한다. 타임라인을 표현할 때에는 시각적 논리를 이용하여 독자들에게 화면의 시간이 시간적 정보를 정확하게 전달한다는 점을 느끼게 하며 독서 습관에 부합한다는 전제하에 시점 연결을 진행한다. 시간의 공시성 및 빠른 리듬과 느린 리듬을 표현할 때 디자인 기술은 독자의 독서 습관에 부합하는 동시에 화면의 페이지 수를 컨트롤해야 하는데 내용을 전달하는 데 있어 펼침 페이지(spread page)의 상하 및 좌우의 공간을 충분히 활용하여 디자인 해야 한다. 시간을 표현한 그림책 삽화의 본질은 공간을 시간으로 표현하는 것이며 공간 속 요소의 서로 다른 조합과 시각적 인도를 통해 시간적 정보를 전달하는 것이다.

IPTV 서비스에서 패킷손실에 의한 비디오품질 열화 모니터링 방법 (A Nobel Video Quality Degradation Monitoring Schemes Over an IPTV Service with Packet Loss)

  • 본 논문에서는 네트워크 전송 중에 패킷손실에 의해 열화되는 IPTV 셋탑박스(STB: Set-Top Box) 재생영상의 화질을 모니터링하는 방법인 VR-VQMS(Visual Rhythm based Video Quality Monitoring Scheme)를 제안한다. 제안된 방법은 인코딩된 영상의 비쥬얼리듬(VR) 정보와 STB 재생영상의 비쥬얼리듬 정보를 특징정보로 사용하는 감소기준법 기반의 영상품질 측정 방법이며, 특히 영상품질관리 측면에서 패킷손실에 의한 화질열화를 정량화한 것이다. 화면열화 정도를 측정하기 위해 기존의 PSNR(peak-to-peak signal-to-noise ratio)을 수정한 NPSNR(Networked PSNR)이라는 새로운 품질척도를 정의하고 이를 기반으로 객관적 및 주관적 열화 척도를 정의하였으며, 온라인 VR-VQMS와 오프라인 VR-VQMS 두 가지의 화질열화 모니터링 방식을 제안하였다. 제안된 방법을 사용하면 화질열화가 발생된 시간과 지속시간, 발생횟수, 평균열화량 등에 대한 통계정보를 얻을 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 시청자의 주관적 체감화질까지 측정할 수 있으며, VR 정보를 사용하기 때문에 눈으로도 직접 이들을 확인할 수 있다는 장점이 있다. 모의실험 결과를 통하여 VR 정보로 추정한 NPSNR 을 이용하여 계산한 화질열화 척도값이 2D 재생영상에 대해 계산한 화질열화 척도값을 매우 근사적으로 추정하고, 시청자의 주관적 화질까지도 상당히 정확하게 추정함을 확인할 수 있었다. 제안된 방법은 IPTV 사업에서 개별 고객들의 시청품질을 평가하는 품질관리 솔루션의 일부로 적용가능하며, 복잡한 연산은 품질관리서버가 수행하고, STB는 작고 가벼운 에이전트 프로그램만 탑재하면 되기 때문에 실용성이 뛰어난 장점이 있다.

Diversification of the molecular clockwork for tissue-specific function: insight from a novel Drosophila Clock mutant homologous to a mouse Clock allele

  • The circadian clock system enables organisms to anticipate the rhythmic environmental changes and to manifest behavior and physiology at advantageous times of the day. Transcriptional/translational feedback loop (TTFL) is the basic feature of the eukaryotic circadian clock and is based on the rhythmic association of circadian transcriptional activator and repressor. In Drosophila, repression of dCLOCK/CYCLE (dCLK/CYC) mediated transcription by PERIOD (PER) is critical for inducing circadian rhythms of gene expression. Pacemaker neurons in the brain control specific circadian behaviors upon environmental timing cues such as light and temperature cycle. We show that amino acids 657-707 of dCLK are important for the transcriptional activation and the association with PER both in vitro and in vivo. Flies expressing dCLK lacking AA657-707 in $Clk^{out}$ genetic background, homologous to the mouse Clock allele where exon 19 region is deleted, display pacemaker-neuron-dependent perturbation of the molecular clockwork. The molecular rhythms in light-cycle-sensitive pacemaker neurons such as ventral lateral neurons ($LN_vs$) were significantly disrupted, but those in temperature-cycle-sensitive pacemaker neurons such as dorsal neurons (DNs) were robust. Our results suggest that the dCLK-controlled TTFL diversify in a pacemaker-neuron-dependent manner which may contribute to specific functions such as different sensitivities to entraining cues.

시각 장애인을 위한 정원-투시, 위요, 음양, 형태 및 환경 (The garden for the blind-perspective, enclosure, light/shade, form and environment)

  • The idea I set my thesis upon was to develop a methodology for the visually impaired to perceive an environment through their other senses. Since the Blind perceive spatial relationships by combined association of their other senses, it was essential to create a setting where their senses can be amplified. Thus this garden was designed to accommodate two or more of blind person's senses at once to provide more of '3-D' spatial relationship. The main goals of this thesis are, first, to create a place where the Blind can enjoy and nurture their own specific interests. Second, to reveal the nature in its allowing individual analysis and interpretation of a garden. Third, to move away from the prejudice of gardens for the Blind being made of only touching and smelling. To achieve these goals, the most important task was to establish a sense of space. In order to do so, five principles were used; Perspective, Enclosure, Light/Shade, Form, and Environment. After all, the garden for the Blind does not proclaim its purpose in loud terms nor in obvious manner. It should attempt to provide joy, serenity, and activity; a freedom to choose, recognize and analyze nuances of garden, the rhythm of enclosure and openness to experience variety, also to delight in subtle changes and to just imagine.

Observations on Normal Body Temperatures in Differently Climate Conditions

  • In order to know the characteristics of circadian rhythms in core temperature in tropical inhabitants, we measured rectal temperatures every 10 min for 24 hrs in 6 Vietnamese, 20 - 22 yrs (5 males and I females) under natural conditions. Average light intensity was 16000 lx. Ambient temperatures ranged from 33 to 36 oC. These data obtained were compared with those in Japanese setters and the Polish inhabitants. The participants were sitting mostly during wakefulness and lying in bed during sleep. The results obtained are summarized as follows: I) The average maximum value was 37.7 oC, which was significantly higher than in the Japanese and Polish as well. 2) The average minimum value was 36.4 oC, which was also lower. 3) A range of oscillation was 1.3 oC, which was clearly greater than in the people living in the temperate areas. The higher maximum value of core temperature, which was actively regulated under warm temperature, seemed of adaptive significance in order to reduce water consumption. A greater rage of oscillation in tropical Vietnamese people might have ecological significance for efficient acclimatization in the environment with strong light intensity and high ambient temperature, suggesting that the setpoint of core temperature could show a greater range of oscillation.

영어 억양의 리듬효과 (A Rhythmic Effect of Tone in English)

  • This paper attempts to investigate the tonal implementations of English stress clash, arguing that a preceding stress shifts leftward when two lexical stresses conflict across word boundaries or that H* and L* pitch accents are alternatively manifested on the stressed syllables, establishing intonational peak and valley contours. We claim that the H*/L* alternation might be a tonal strategy to avoid stress clash, and that pitch could be solely manipulated to display a rhythmic effect with maintaining lexical stress. In the experiment, we examined two-word combinations whose boundaries involve stress clash, and divided them into two categories. One has the preceding words involving a heavy syllable ahead of stress to guarantee the place for a shifting stress and the other, a light syllable, in which case stress shift is completely prevented. We analyzed the distribution of pitch accents in the word combinations, focusing on the pitch configurations in the cases where stress should not be shifted. Results show that approximately 50% of the stimuli show stress shift in the heavy syllable combinations of the preceding words; the preceding stress is moved leftward within the word. The other 50% and the light syllable combinations show various pitch accents patterns; H* and L* alternation, deaccentuation of either stressed syllable, or L-insertion between two H* pitch accents, etc. We interpret this as a rhythmic effect of tone to avoid stress clash and suggest that a true stress clash would be confined into cases without H*/L* contours.

해양풍력발전단지 표지등광의 등질선정에 관한 연구 (Selection of Light Character for Marking with Lights on Offshore Wind Farms)

  • 정부는 2010년 신재생에너지발전전략을 수립 시행함에 따라 2011년 11월 "서남해안 2.5GW 해상풍력개발 종합추진계획"을 발표하였다. 이와 같이 친환경에너지 정책에 따라 해상에 설치되는 풍력발전단지는 계속 증가할 것이다. 해양풍력발전단지의 개발은 풍력뿐만 아니라 해상교통환경도 고려해야 한다. 특히 풍력발전단지의 항로표지는 인근지역을 항해하는 선박과 구조물의 충돌을 방지하는 중요한 역할을 한다. 국제항로표지협회에서는 풍력단지의 식별을 위해 해양풍력단지의 가장자리 구조물(SPS)과 외각 선의 중간 구조물(IPS)에 등광을 설치하도록 규정하고 있다. 그러나 이들 등광을 식별함에 있어 중요한 역할을 하는 등질에 관해서는 언급하지 않고 있고 적합한 등질 선택에 관한 연구도 부족한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 해양풍력발전단지를 표지하는 SPS와 IPS의 등광설치에 관한 국내외 규정을 검토하고 다른 항로표지 등광과 혼동되지 않으면서 식별이 용이한 등질의 패턴과 리듬을 제안한다. 제안된 등질은 시뮬레이션 검증을 수행하였으며, 그 결과 SPS의 등질 "Fl Y(4) 12s"와 IPS의 등질 "Fl Y 6s"의 조합 동기점멸이 유용한 것으로 분석되었다.

플래퍼 패션이 현대(現代) 패션에 미친 영향(影響) (The Influences of Flapper Fashion on Modern Fashion)

  • The purpose of this study is for consideration of the flapper fashion (1924-1928) in Jazz Age (1919-1929) of America and the influences of it on modern fashion. This study is started from the latest fashion trend which is pursuing it's inspiration into the Jazz Age, the 20s. The etimology of 'flapper' was based on mines is 'flap' such as 'flutter of skirt hemline', 'hands', 'arms', 'wings' and a slang which was applied to young women from 1830. In 20th century it has meant not only new American women but also their fashion and attitude. The designs of flapper fashion were expressed by simplicity, functionality, nudity and rhythm. Simplicity was the best value of this time and the simple image was considered the smartest. Functionality was represented by straight boyish style and loose baggy silhouette that was related to free dome. Nudity was expressed by revealing of legs, arms, backs in shapes and see-through by materials. It was related to sexual attraction and point to youth. Rhythm of flapper fashion expressed optical effect of movement. Using of light material was deep related to freedom of flappers, speed, rhythmical Jazz and dancing. The influences of flapper fashion were giving an opportunity that changed fashion leader from high class to young popular group and simple design of flapper fashion effected to modernization and popularization of American apparel business. And it influenced American casual fashion which was known as brightness, youth and openhearted mood. So flapper fashion can be reganded as the starting point of the street fashion of the 20th century.

넙치(Pralichthys olivaceus)의 혈액건강지표의 활동일주기와 단기절식에 따른 생리적 반응 (Daily Rhythms and Effect of Short-term Starvation on the of Health Parameters in Olive Flounder Paralichthys olivaceus)

  • This study was conducted to determine the circadian rhythm and the effect of starvation for the health assessment of olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus, reared under 12:12 LD (light:dark) cycle and fed 1% of their body weight once a day. The blood collection was implemented from 10 fish every 3 hours for a day, and analyzed to serval health parameters of the experimental fish. Plasma cortisol, glucose and total protein concentration reflected diel rhythms with high level of photophase and low level of scotophse despites of glutamic oxalacetic transaminase (GOT) and glutamic pyruvate transaminase (GPT) showing no rhythmicity, while electrolyte (sodium, potassium and chloride ion) concentrations arrived at the peak 18 hour and then slowly down. In the experiment of starvation, the result showed that there were no significant differences of the health parameters between the starved group and the fed. In short, our findings described the existence of circadian cortisol with glucose in flat fish, and indicated that the starvation does not almost affect the health of fish.

연령분류에 따른 성인 수면의 질에 영향을 미치는 요인 (Factors Influencing the Quality of Sleep in Korean Adults by Age Groups)

  • Purpose: This study investigated the factors influencing sleep quality in adults according to age groups. The escriptive study was conducted in metropolitan areas of South Korea to control for possible sleep differences between adults living in rural areas and those living in cities. Participants were 450 adults between 19 and 65 years old. Methods: Self-administered questionnaires consisting of including the Korean Modified Sleep Leeds Evaluation Questionnaire, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire and the Perceived Stress Scale were used to assess the quality of adults' sleep. Results: Sleep quality was poor across the all age groups Stress and subjective health status were influencing factors of sleep quality among participants in their 20s; subjective health status and circadian rhythm (evening-type) were influencing factors of those in their 30s; subjective health status, alcohol consumption, and work days of less than 8 hours were influencing factors among participants in their 40s; and stress, circadian rhythm (evening-type), subjective health status, work days of over 11 hours, past smoking habit, and light physical activity were influencing factors of those aged 50 years and over. Conclusion: The quality of sleep was low across the all adult age groups in South Korea. Although the factors influencing quality of sleep differed by age groups, they in general indicate the need to focus on maintaining and controlling health status in sleep interventions.
