This study was conducted to investigate the influences of the rope and the tipping chute restraints on body temperature (BT) and heart rate (HR) as acute response for stress caused by restraining for diagnasis and treatment in cattle. Both parameters were recorded by active biotelemetry. In addition cortisol concentration in blood was analyzed as a indicator for stress response. Twelve cattle were divided into two groups based on hydraulic power, the rope restraint group and the tipping chute restraint group. BT and HR were measured at -30 (base), 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 90, 120, and 180 minutes, including restraint period from 0 to 30 minutes during the experiment. The results obtained in this study was summarized as follows: 1. BT of the rope restraint group was increased ($39.8{\pm}0.3^{\circ}C$) until 20 min after restraint stress for 30 min, and then maintained with high values to the end of experiment. In the tipping chute restraint group, the BT was increased ($39.6{\pm}0.3^{\circ}C$) until the end of the restraint period, but then showed decrese until the end of experiment. 2. HR of both groups was maximized at the beginning of the restraint stress (P<0.05), and then it was decreased gradually but in the tipping chute restraint group showed increase again at the end of the reatraint stress (P<0.05). 3. The cortisol level of the rope restraint group was increased significantly ($9.72{\pm}5.09{\mu}g/d{\ell}$) until 30 min after the end of the restraint stress (P<0.05) and then decreased, but in the tipping chute restraint group showed great increase ($4.68{\pm}1.56{\mu}g/d{\ell}$) at the end of the restraint stress (P<0.05) and then decreased while the tipping chute restraint group was significantly lower than the rope restraint group 30 min after the restraint stress (P<0.05). In conclusion, this study suggests that the tipping chute restraint produces less response to physical stress than the rope restraint but the time for diagnasis and treatment should be shortened when using the tipping chute restraint.
We measured change of peripheral skin temperature and mean skin temperature when the upper arm and thigh pressured in order to know the effect of skin pressure applied by clothing on blood circulation. After release from pressure, we observed also recovery condition. At the same time, we examined relation between pressure and a feeling of tightness. Three physiques of healthy females, namely slender, standard and plump, served as subjects. We used intermittent method with skin pressure applied by experimental fabric at l-minute intervals. Besides we made a comparative study with results according to different restraint method (continuous method and intermittent method). As a result of this experiment, we obtained following findings. 1. The significant difference was marked at the pressure, measuring time, physique and measuring region with change of skin temperature under upper arm and thigh restraint by intermittent method. The peripheral skin temperature decreased with the lapse of restraint time. A remarkable tendency observed according to the. increase of restraint pressure. Recovery condition after release from pressure not yet recovered to original state, for all after a lapse of 10 min. The mean skin temperature decreased with the lapse of restraint time in case of upper arm restraint, it was not an obvious tendency except 60mmHg under thigh restraint. 2. Main factor affecting the evaluation of a feeling of tightness was restraint pressure, when the upper arm and thigh restraint by intermittent method. The respondence rate of 'very tight' grew larger according to the increase of restraint pressure. The value of pressure sensation declined after restraint ten times as compared with one time, but there was difference according to restraint pressure. 3. We reexamined change of skin temperature and feeling of tightness by different restraint method(continuous method and intermittent method). The results were as follows. 1) The skin temperature decreased more greatly during skin pressure by continuous method than intermittent method, especially in the peripheral. Without different restraint method, the skin temperature of slender plysique decreased more greatly than that of plump physique. 2) The value of pressure sensation by intermittent method was highly on both sites of upper arm and thigh.
Purpose: This paper was to develop an elbow restraint which can reduce the side effects of the wrist restraint which was frequently used in an intensive care unit and to evaluate its application. Methods: A nonequivalent control group non-synchronized design was used. Subjects were 38 patients (elbow restraint group: 18, wrist restraint group: 20) and 20 nurses who used both restraints in medical intensive care unit at G National University Hospital. Restraints were applied to subjects for 72 hours. Data were collected from December 1, 2009 through March 31, 2010. The data collected were analyzed using $x^2-test$, Fisher's exact test, t-test, and ANCOVA using SPSS 12.0 program. Results: Elbow restraint significantly decreased range of wrist motion reduction, swelling and significantly increased the convenience of wearing restraint compared to wrist restraint. Conclusion: The new elbow restraint are more efficient than the old wrist restraint, which have been used in an intensive care unit, in terms of convenience of restraint application, range of joint motion and prevention of swelling.
120 mice of both sexes weighing from 18 to 22 g. were used. These mice were divided nito 12 groups : control (non-restraint and restraint) , acclinmation (non-restraint and restraint , acclimation for 5 and 10 days) , adrenalectomized (non-restraint and restraint0 and acclimation-adrenalectomized (non-restraint and restraint, acclimation for 5 and 10 days) groups. The rectal temperature of each group were measured at 10, 30 and 50 min under environment of $0^{\circ}C$.Measurements were done with a microphrometer of B.T.-32 thermocorpules. The results obtained may be summarized as follows : 1) The rectal temperature in normal mice without restraint was higher than that of normal mice with restraint under environment of $0^{\circ}C$. 2) The rectal temperature in normal mice was higher than that of adrenalectomized mice at 20$^{\circ}$ C. But the rectal temperature in adrenalectomized mice without restraint was higher than that of adrenalectomized mice with restraint under cold-stress. This difference was in the order of 1.65$^{\circ}$ under environment of 20$^{\circ}$ and 10 $^{\circ}$ at 50 min under environment of 0$^{\circ}$. 3) The rectal temperature of normal mice with restraint was less than that of adrenalectomized mice (non-restraint) under cold-stress. 4) The rectal temperature of normal and adrenalectomized mice that acclimated under cold stress ($0^{\circ}C$) for 5 and 10 days was usually higher than that of normal and adrenalectomized mice of non-acclimation under environment of $0^{\circ}C$. 5) The tolerance in mice under cold-stress was increased on the acclimtion of cold.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe restraint use in care of patients with psychiatric disorders in an attempt to avoid unnecessary restraint use and provide information for developing standards regarding restraint use as a therapeutic maneuver. Methods: For this descriptive study, discharge records from N National Mental Hospital in the year 2009 were reviewed by trained nurses during Dec. 24, 2010 and Mar. 31, 2011. There were 596 restrains applied on 232 of 1,322 discharges. Data collected include general characteristic of patients, the frequency of restraint use, time since admission when restraint was applied, time of the day when restraint was applied, duration of restraint application, place of occurrence, reasons for restraint use, and degree of damage to the patent. Work experience of nurses who applied restraints, number of workforce at the time of restraint, and season of the year was also identified. Descriptive statistics, Chi-square test, t-test, ANOVA, $Scheff{\grave{e}}$ and Jonckheere-Terpstra were applied using SPSS 14.0 to analyze the data. Results: There were 596 restraint uses among 232 patients. Restraints were applied most frequently on males in their 40s, patients diagnosed with schizophrenia, and patients repeating admissions more than 6 times. Restraints were frequently applied within first week following admission, between 16:00 and 20:00, and the average duration of restraint was 5 hours. There were significant differences according to diagnoses of patients in the season restraint occured, time, place of occurrence, reason for restraint, and duration of restraint. Patients with alcoholism received longer restraint application. Conclusion: In order to avoid unnecessary restraint use in patients with psychiatric disorders, nurses and other health care team members need to acknowledge a group of patients such as patients with schizophrenia and alcoholism who relatively frequently restrained or receiving longer restraint. Reasonable and careful decision need to be made when applying restraint in the care of patients with alcohol problem.
Objective: The study was designed to investigate the effects of restraint method, restraint duration, and body weight on stress-linked hormones (corticosterone, adrenaline, and noradrenaline), blood biochemical (namely glucose and lactate), and the meat quality in broiler chickens. Methods: A total of 120 male broiler chickens (Cobb 500) were assigned to a $2{\times}3{\times}2$ factorial arrangement in a completely randomized design using two restraint methods (shackle and cone), three durations of restraint (10, 30, and 60 s), and two categories of live body weight ($1.8{\pm}0.1kg$ as lightweight and $2.8{\pm}0.1kg$ as heavyweight). Results: Irrespective of the duration of restraint and body weight, the coned chickens were found to have lower plasma corticosterone (p<0.01), lactate (p<0.001), lower meat drip loss (p<0.01), cooking loss (p<0.05), and higher blood loss (p<0.05) compared with their shackled counterparts. The duration of restraint had significant effects on the meat initial pH (p<0.05), ultimate pH (p<0.05), and yellowness (p<0.01). The lightweight broilers exhibited higher (p<0.001) blood loss and lower (p<0.05) cooking loss compared to the heavyweight broilers, regardless of the restraint method used and the duration of restraint. However, the interaction between the restraint method, duration of restraint, and body weight contributed to differences in pre-slaughter stress and meat quality. Therefore, the interaction between the restraint method and the duration of restraint affected the meat shear force, lightness ($L^*$) and redness ($a^*$). Conclusion: The duration of restraint and body weight undoubtedly affect stress responses and meat quality of broiler chickens. Regardless of the duration of restraint and body weight, the cone restraint resulted in notably lower stress, lower meat water loss, and higher blood loss compared to shackling. Overall, the findings of this study showed that restraint method, duration of restraint, and body weight may affect the stress response and meat quality parameters in broilers and should be considered independently or interactively in future studies.

In this study, a practical method of shrinkage stress analysis on concrete slab in multi-story building is proposed, which considers both internal restraint and external restraint variation resulting from construction sequence. The shrinkage stress due to external restraint is obtained by multiplying relaxation coefficient to elastic shrinkage stress. The additional shrinkage stress due to internal restraint is obtained by residual strain of the elastic analysis. A verification example was analyzed and compared by the proposed method and commercial analysis program that is capable of time-dependent analysis of concrete. The results of 10-story example building show that the internal restraint of reinforcement increases the shrinkage stress considerably at the slabs under loose external restraint.
This study evaluated the effect of restraint of pressure induced bending(PIB) on crack mouth opening displacement(CMOD) for circumferential through-wall crack in pipe by using both elastic and elastic-plastic finite element analyses. The analyses results showed the restraint of PIB was decreased crack opening for a given crack length and tensile stress, and the effect was considerable for large crack and short restraint length. Also, the restraint effect on CMOD was independent on the variation in pipe diameter and decreased with increasing pipe thickness, and it depended on not total restraint length but short restraint length for non-symmetrically restrained. Additionally, the effect of restraint of PIB was more significant in the elastic-plastic analysis results compared with in the elastic analysis results.
Purpose: The use of proper safety restraint systems by children is vital for the reduction of traffic accident-related injury and death. This study evaluated the rates of use of safety restraint systems and front seats by Korean children. Methods: Based on data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2008 to 2015, I investigated the frequencies of safety restraint systems and front seat use by children under six and 12 years of age, respectively. Results: The percentage of respondents who said they always use safety restraint systems increased from 17.7% in 2008 to 45.0% in 2015. The rate of children who did not use the front seats at all was 47.3 % in 2008 compared to 33.4% in 2015. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed a decrease in safety-restraint-system use as age increased (odds ratio, 0.63; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.51-0.77). The use rate of front-passenger seat belts by the mother is significantly correlated with the safety-restraint-system use rate by children (odds ratio, 2.14; 95% CI, 1.12-4.06). Conclusion: Although the rate of safety-restraint-system use for children is increasing annually, it remains low. Additionally, the use rate of front passenger seats for children is high. To reduce the rates of injury and death of children from traffic accidents, it is necessary to educate on the appropriate use of safety restraint systems according to age and body size and to develop stronger regulations.
The solidification crack susceptifility of aluminum alloy weld metal have been evaluated by means of the slef restraint and external restraint cracking test. It has been observed expermently as follows : (1) The manganese is beneficial to decrease the solidification cracking susceptibility. (2) Weld metal containing zirconium is less sensitive to the solidification cracking than the weld metal containing chromium does. (3) The self restraint test method shows the same tendency in results as the external restraint test does.
