  • Measures in response rate used to measure the representativeness of the sample (the more high response rate) better explain the representativeness of the sample. However, we cannot often explain the representativeness of the sample because there is nonresponse even in the high response rate. Therefore, Schouten et al. (2009) presented a new R-indicator measure that can be described as a representative of the sample. We research the new estimator of the R-indicator in this paper because there are parameters that require estimations. We describe the meanings as representative of the R-indicator; consequently, the bias and efficiency of the proposed estimator for R-indicator are compared to the existing estimator under various simulations. The representativeness of the sample is also explained by applying the proposed estimators in the actual data.

  • This paper presents a systematic approach which determines the optimal period to minimize performance measure subject to the schedulability constraints of a real-time control system by formulating the scheduling problem as an optimal problem. The performance measure is derived from the summation of end-to-end response times of processed I/Os scheduled by the static cyclic method. The schedulability constraint is specified in terms of allowable resource utilization. At first, a uniprocessor case is considered and then it is extended to a distributed system connected through a communication link, local-inter network, UN. This approach is applied to the design of an automotive body control system in order to validate the feasibility through a real example. By using the approach, a set of optimal periods can easily be obtained without complex and advanced methods such as branch and bound (B&B) or simulated annealing.

  • This study examines the response of users' feelings from a gender perspective toward interactive video mobile learning (IVML). An IVML prototype was developed for the Android platform allowing users to install and make use of the app for m-learning purposes. This study aims to measure the level of feelings toward the IVML prototype and examine the differences in gender perspectives, identify the most responsive feelings between male, and female users as prominent feelings and measure the correlation between user-friendly feeling traits as an independent variable in accordance with gender attributes. The feelings response could then be extracted from the user experience, user interface, and human-computer interaction based on gender perspectives using the Kansei engineering approach as the measurement method. The statistical results demonstrated the different emotional reactions from a male and female perspective toward the IVML prototype may or may not have a correlation with the user-friendly trait, perhaps having a similar emotional response from one to another.

  • A method used for measuring the stiffness of hinging reinforced concrete frame structures is developed. The so called Stiffness Measure Method is used to evaluate the tangent stiffness of hinge regions while the structure is responding in nonlinear ranges. Eigenvector methods for nonlinear response have not been especially popular because of the need for regenerating eigenvectors as the time history proceeds. In the present work the eigenvectors sets and corresponding nonlinear state variables, i. e., the tangent stiffnesses of the hinge regions, are stored. There is an expectation that previously generated eigenvectors can be reused as the analysis proceeds. The stiffness measure is used to compare the current tangent stiffnesses of hinge regions with those of previously stored eigenvectors sets. Since eigenvector calculations are diminished the method is effective in reducing computational effort for reinforced concrete frame structures subjected to strong ground motions.

  • The objective or this paper is to measure the in-plane vibration intensity of a beam with a damped end that means the magnitude and direction of vibration power. Three experimental methods have been implemented to measure the in-plane vibration intensity over the beam. The first method is the accelerometer array method using two accelerometers. The second method is the frequency response function method using the only one accelerometer. The third method is the reference accelerometer method using a fixed reference accelerometer and another moving accelerometer. Those methods have been used to measure the spatial distribution of in-plane vibration intensity over the beam. The results obtained with those methods have been compared with each other. The results have been compared with an input power. It showed that the frequency response function method and the reference accelerometer method as well as the accelerometer array method can be effectively used to measure the in-plane vibration intensity in beams.

  • A fast response $CO_2$ ($fCO_2$) analyzer for real-time measurement of carbon dioxide concentration during transient states of internal combustion engines has been developed. This analyzer uses non-dispersive infrared absorption (NDIR) technique for measuring $CO_2$ concentration and Kalman filter for removing noise components from output signals. The analyzer has good linearity, repeatability and drift with a response time of 11 ms; it is sufficiently fast to detect $CO_2$ concentration during transient states of internal combustion engines. The $fCO_2$ analyzer was used to measure transient $CO_2$ concentration of exhaust gas of the SI engine with a standard gas analyzer, and the signal of the $fCO_2$ analyzer was compared to that of the standard gas analyzer. The two concentrations were well matched during the steady state, and the $fCO_2$ analyzer could measure the variations of $CO_2$ concentration during the transient state.

  • This study investigates the characteristics of evaluation measures for classification models on a binary response variable in order to evaluate their suitability for use. Six measures are considered: Accuracy, Sensitivity, Specificity, Precision, F-measure, and the Heidke's skill score (HSS). Evaluation measures are reformulated using x(ratio of actually 1), y(ratio predicted by 1), z(ratio of both actual and predicted by 1) from the confusion matrix. We suggest two necessary conditions to assess the suitability of the evaluation measures. The first condition is that the measure function is constant for x and y in the case of a random model. The second condition is that the measure function is increasing for z and decreasing for x and y. Since only HSS satisfies the two conditions, that is always appropriate as an evaluation measure for the classification model on the binary response variable, and the other measures should be used within a limited range.

  • The combustion instability of a rocket motor can be predicted by the linear stability analysis. The most important input data in this analysis is the combustion response function of the solid propellant. In many cases, it is very difficult to measure the function. But, in that case, the combustion response function can be theoretically evaluated by properties of the propellant. In this study, the theoretical values were compared with measured values by T-burner. Data are relatively so well agreed that theoretical values are enough to be used in linear stability analysis of the rocket motor using a newly developed propellant.

  • In this paper, the properties of autocorrelation function of binary sequences are investigated. From these properties, the binary sequences which can be used for measurement of impulse response on fading channel are found by computer search. A receiver which can measure impulse response by use of these binary sequences is devised. This devised measurement system produces zero values of autocorrelation function for the all delays except zero sight.

  • in this paper, each methodology, e.g. normal single PID controller, direct synthesis method and inverse response compensator, will be compared to determine the best inverse response plant control method, by based on the appearance of the control performance and robustness from the simulation results. The flexibility of being able to maintain the system stability during the presence of plant model mismatch is one of the criteria to measure the robustness of overall control system. Once, plant has changed the condition, the model will need to be updated. Hence, the designed controller will not work properly. The caused of plant model mismatch is stayed by definition unknown but the most possib...
