Nuclear-related facilities can be detrimentally affected by ground vibrations due to the collapse of adjacent cooling towers in nuclear power plants. To reduce this hazard risk, a design-oriented acceleration response spectrum (ARS) was proposed to predict the dynamic responses of nuclear-related facilities subjected to ground vibrations. For this purpose, 20 computational cases were performed based on cooling tower-soil numerical models developed in previous studies. This resulted in about 2664 ground vibration records to build a basic database and five complementary databases with consideration of primary factors that influence ground vibrations. Afterwards, these databases were applied to generate the design-oriented ARS using a response spectrum analysis approach. The proposed design-oriented ARS covers a wide range of natural periods up to 6 s and consists of an ascending portion, a plateau, and two connected descending portions. Spectral parameters were formulated based on statistical analysis. The spectrum was verified by comparing the representative acceleration magnitudes obtained from the design-oriented ARS with those from computational cases using cooling tower-soil numerical models with reasonable consistency.

The formal data used in the business is managed in a table form without normalization due to lack of understanding and application of data modeling. If the balance of the database design is destroyed, it affects the speed of response to the data query, and the data obesity becomes high. In this paper, it is investigated how data obesity improved through database design through optimized data modeling. The data query path was clearly visualized by square design through data modeling based on the relationship between object (data) and object, from the radial and task - oriented isolation design where data obesity is excessive. In terms of data obesity, the obesity degree of the current research support database was 57.2%, but it was 16.2% in the new research support database, and the data obesity degree was reducd by 40.5%. In addition, by minimizing redundancy of data, the database has been improved to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the data.

In this study we collected various substance codes, physical and chemical properties, and hazard level of the 545 HNS which was determined earlier, and constructed the Korean HNS database including International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) codes,, informations of explosive and corrosive characteristics of HNS after reviewing of US, Japan and European Database. And also problems of present HNS Database which focused mainly on land-based environment and an absence of information for chemical and physical properties of mixed substance HNS are reported. For the efficient implementation of comprehensive HNS management system, we constructed the basic model for the HNS database in marine environment and made suggestions for improvement for the future development of HNS Database to be prepared for the marine spill accidents.
Understanding complex relationships among heterogeneous biological data is one of the fundamental goals in biology. In most cases, diverse biological data are stored in relational databases, such as MySQL and Oracle, which store data in multiple tables and then infer relationships by multiple-join statements. Recently, a new type of database, called the graph-based database, was developed to natively represent various kinds of complex relationships, and it is widely used among computer science communities and IT industries. Here, we demonstrate the feasibility of using a graph-based database for complex biological relationships by comparing the performance between MySQL and Neo4j, one of the most widely used graph databases. We collected various biological data (protein-protein interaction, drug-target, gene-disease, etc.) from several existing sources, removed duplicate and redundant data, and finally constructed a graph database containing 114,550 nodes and 82,674,321 relationships. When we tested the query execution performance of MySQL versus Neo4j, we found that Neo4j outperformed MySQL in all cases. While Neo4j exhibited a very fast response for various queries, MySQL exhibited latent or unfinished responses for complex queries with multiple-join statements. These results show that using graph-based databases, such as Neo4j, is an efficient way to store complex biological relationships. Moreover, querying a graph database in diverse ways has the potential to reveal novel relationships among heterogeneous biological data.

In this paper, SQL statements are analyzed to improve database performance in the current course registration system. The performance of the current database was measured through the execution plan of the SQL statements used in the transactions related to the course registration. Through the SQL analysis, the complemented SQL statements confirmed the improved performance. Overall, the performance of the course registration database system was improved through the analysis of the execution plan, and some improvement methods of the course registration SQL were shown as test results. The improved method is to reorganize the tables and index tables related to the course registration through database tuning, and utilize the SQL function to implement an optimized system that has evolved into a course database system with improved performance. The enrollment system re-adjusted by the proposed method showed excellent results in terms of performance compared to the previous enrollment system, and the integrated performance test result reduced the response time by 1.8 to 18 times.

Extensive computer simulations to account for the randomness in the process of seismic demand estimation have been a serious obstacle to the adoption of probabilistic performance assessments for the decision of applying seismic intervention schemes. In this study, a method for rapid fragility assessments based on a response database and the fragility contour method are presented. By the comparison of response contours in different formats, it is shown that representing maximum responses in ductility demand is better for the investigation of the effect of structural parameter changes on seismic demands than representations in absolute values. The presented fragility contour enables designers to practically investigate the probabilistic performance level of every possible retrofit option in a convenient manner using visualized data sets. This example demonstrates the extreme efficiency of the proposed approach in performing fragility assessments and successful application to the seismic retrofit strategies based on limit state probabilities.

Recently the frequency of coastal disasters caused by global warming is increasing and the damage is becoming greater. Therefore, the Korean government is establishing various policies and measures to minimize damage. For disaster prevention, this study will evaluate the disaster response capacity of each local resident(Eup/Myeun/Dong) in coastal areas through the survey. The purpose of this study is to quantitatively understand the disaster response capacity and analyze spatial autocorrelation between hot spots(vulnerable area) and cold spots. Thus this study was conducted a survey of 311 towns(Eup/Myeun/Dong) about the disaster response capacity of coastal residents. As a result, Namhae has the highest average score(4.9). On the contrary, Hampyeong has the lowest(1.6). Coastal residents in Namhae seem to have better understanding of first aid and preventive maintenance. But coastal residents in Hampyeong seem to not have these characteristics. Afterwards, this study builds a database of disaster response capacity, and analyzes it using the spatial autocorrelation method. Finally, the area of hot spots and cold spots for disaster response capacity was quantitatively detected.
This paper describes the design and implementation of a two-tier DBMS for handling massive data and providing faster response time. In the present day, the main requirements of DBMS are figured out using two aspects. The first is handling large amounts of data. And the second is providing fast response time. But in fact, Traditional DBMS cannot fulfill both the requirements. The disk-oriented DBMS can handle massive data but the response time is relatively slower than the memory-resident DBMS. On the other hand, the memory-resident DBMS can provide fast response time but they have original restrictions of database size. In this paper, to meet the requirements of handling large volumes of data and providing fast response time, a two-tier DBMS is proposed. The cold-data which does not require fast response times are managed by disk storage manager, and the hot-data which require fast response time among the large volumes of data are handled by memory storage manager as snapshots. As a result, the proposed system performs significantly better than disk-oriented DBMS with an added advantage to manage massive data at the same time.
In recent years, interest is growing in the engineering community on the experimental assessment and the theoretical prediction of the out-of-plane (OOP) seismic response of unreinforced masonry (URM) infills, which are widespread in Reinforced Concrete (RC) buildings in Europe and in the Mediterranean area. In the literature, some mechanical-based models for the prediction of the entire OOP force-displacement response have been formulated and proposed. However, the small number of experimental tests currently available has not allowed, up to current times, a robust and reliable evaluation of the predictive capacity of such response models. To enrich the currently available experimental database, six pure OOP tests on URM infills in RC frames were carried out at the Department of Structures for Engineering and Architecture of the University of Naples Federico II. Test specimens were built with the same materials and were different only for the thickness of the infill walls and for the number of their edges mortared to the confining elements of the RC frames. In this paper, the results of these experimental tests are briefly recalled. The main aim of this study is comparing the experimental response of test specimens with the prediction of mechanical models presented in the literature, in order to assess their effectiveness and contribute to the definition of a robust and reliable model for the evaluation of the OOP seismic response of URM infill walls.

In this paper, we propose the automatic demand response systems which reduce the electric power consumption for the period automatically distinct from the existing passive demand response that a subscriber directly controls the energy consumption. The proposed systems are based on SEP 2.0 and consist of the demand response management program, the demand response server, and the demand response client. The demand response program shows the current status of the electric power use to a subscriber and supports the function which the administrator enables to creates or cancels a demand response event. The demand response server transmits the demand response event received from the demand response management program to the demand response client through SEP 2.0 protocol, and it stores the metering data from the demand response client in a database. After extracting the data, such as the demand response the start time, the duration, the reduction level, the demand response client reduces the electric power consumption for the period.
