  • In this paper, a contort- and speaker-dependent cepstrum extraction method and a channel normalization method for minimizing the loss of speaker characteristics in the cepstrum were proposed for a robust speaker recognition system over the channel. The proposed extraction method creates a cepstrum based on the pitch synchronous analysis using the inherent pitch of the speaker. Therefore, the cepstrum called the 〃pitch synchronous cepstrum〃 (PSC) represents the impulse response of the vocal tract more accurately in voiced speech. And the PSC can compensate for channel distortion because the pitch is more robust in a channel environment than the spectrum of speech. And the proposed channel normalization method, the 〃formant-broadened pitch synchronous CMS〃 (FBPSCMS), applies the Formant-Broadened CMS to the PSC and improves the accuracy of the intraframe processing. We compared the text-independent closed-set speaker identification on 56 females and 112 males using TIMIT and NTIMIT database, respectively. The results show that pitch synchronous km improves the error reduction rate by up to 7.7% in comparison with conventional short-time cepstrum and the error rates of the FBPSCMS are more stable and lower than those of pole-filtered CMS.

  • In recent years, there has been increasing interest in the senior people in our aging society. This paper will give an account of the current cases of senior shift. The first section of this paper will examine a conceptual approach based on a literature review and analyze case studies of senior shifts by national fashion and beauty brands. It will be helpful for the 'New Senior' consumer group, which in emerging in an aging society. The research methods applied were a literature review and a case study, and a database search was conducted to determine the current situation of global brands. The results of the literature review showed that seniors can be classified into four types based on their physical aging condition and emotional tendency: Prime Senior, Smart Senior, Rational Senior, and Slump Senior. The first thing that needs to be said is that the Prime Senior type is found commonly in as a way to appoint a senior model in order to switch brand image. Cases of the Smart Senior type appeared only in the beauty field, which attempted multilateral approaches such as launching products exclusively for seniors and offering make-up services after improving the usability and functionality in response to senior consumers'needs. However, as no cases of senior shift were found for the Rational Senior and Slump Senior types in either the fashion or beauty field, future studies should explore the market approaches used in those categories.

  • Objectives: This study examined associations among social capital indicators (social participation and generalized trust) at the individual level and alcohol use, which was quantified using Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) scores. Methods: In total, there were 8800 participants in community health interviews, including 220 adults sampled systematically from a resident registration database of each of 40 sub-municipal administrative units of local (city or county) governments. Adjusted odds ratios (aORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated using polychotomous logistic regression. Results: The aORs for abstainers versus people with AUDIT scores of 0-7, based on 3 questions on generalized trust, in comparison to those with no positive responses, were 1.15 (95% CI, 0.99 to 1.34) for 1 positive response, 1.16 (95% CI, 0.98 to 1.37) for 2 positive responses; and 1.39 (95% CI, 1.20 to 1.61) for 3 positive responses. The aORs for abstainers versus people with AUDIT scores of 0-7, in comparison to participation in no organizations, were 0.61 (95% CI, 0.54 to 0.69) for participation only in informal organizations; 2.16 (95% CI, 1.57 to 2.99) for participation only in religious organizations; 2.41 (95% CI, 1.10 to 5.29) for participation only in volunteer organizations; and 0.65 (95% CI, 0.57 to 0.74) for participation in formal organizations. Participants in formal social organizations, regardless of their participation in informal organizations, were more likely to have AUDIT scores of 8-15 (aOR, 1.29; 95% CI, 1.04 to 1.60) or ≥16 (aOR, 1.65; 95% CI, 1.22 to 2.23) than to have scores of 0-7. Conclusions: Our findings may have implications for health policy to reduce alcohol problems.

  • The 9.12 earthquake (2016.9.12., ML=5.8) and Pohang (2017.11.15., ML=5.4) caused social and economic damage, resulting in a greater public interest in earthquakes than in the past. In the U.S., Japan and Chile, which have high frequency of earthquakes, infrastructure facilities are already managed based on probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA) and ground motion prediction equation (GMPE) to prepare for and respond to seismic disasters. In South Korea, the aforementioned PSHA and GMPE models have been developed independently through individual researchers. However, the limited disclosure of basic data, calculation methods, and final results created during the model development poses a problem of deploying new data without updating the earthquake that occurs every year. Therefore, this paper describes how to create flatfile, which is the basic data of GMPE, and how to process for seismic waves, and how to create intensity measures.

  • Research results have demonstrated that conventional client-server databases have scalability problem in the presence of many concurrent clients. The multi-tier architecture that exploits similarities in clients' object access behavior partitions clients into logical clusters according to their object request pattern. As a result, object requests that are served inside the clusters, server load and request response time can be optimized. Management of clustering by utilizing clients' access pattern-based is an important component for the system's goal. Off-line methods optimizes the quality of the global clustering, the necessary cost and clustering schedule needs to be considered and planned carefully in respect of stable system's performance. In this paper, we propose methods that detect changes in access behavior and optimize system configuration in real time. Finally this paper demonstrates the effectiveness of on-line change detection and results of experimental investigation concerning reconfiguration.

  • Toll-like receptors (TLRs) play an important role in the recognition of invading pathogens and the modulation of innate immune responses in mammals. The TLR4 and TLR7 are well known to recognize the bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and single stranded (ssRNA) ligands, respectively and play important role in host defense against Gram-negative bacteria and ssRNA viruses. In the present study, coding exon fragments of these two TLRs were identified, cloned, sequenced and analyzed in terms of insertion-deletion polymorphism, within bovine TLRs 4 and 7, thereby facilitating future TLR signaling and association studies relevant to bovine innate immunity. Comparative sequence analysis of TLR 4 exons revealed that this gene is more variable, particularly the coding frame (E3P1), while other parts showed percent identity of 95.7% to 100% at nucleotide and amino acid level, respectivley with other Bos indicus and Bos taurus breeds from different parts of the world. In comparison to TLR4, sequence analysis of TLR7 showed more conservation among different B. indicus and B. taurus breeds, except single point mutation at 324 nucleotide position (AAA to AAM) altering a single amino acid at 108 position (K to X). Percent identity of TLR7 sequences (all 3 exons) was between 99.2% to 100% at nucleotide and amino acid level, when compared with available sequence database of B. indicus and B. taurus. Simple Modular Architecture Research Tool (SMART) analysis showed variations in the exon fragments located in the Leucine Rich Repeat (LRR) region, which is responsible for binding with the microbial associated molecular patterns and further, downstream signaling to initiate anti-microbial response. Considering importance of TLR polymorphism in terms of innate immunity, further research is warranted.

  • This paper describes the second stage of the work aiming at proposing a reasonable risk management response system for construction safety. By means of questionnaires/interviews and two sample t-tests, significant risk factors are identified for three different conditions. Then a Case-Based Reasoning System is built for use at construction sites to simulate possible accidents. This Construction Management Reasoning System(CMRS) nay be used by safety managers at sites every day (or education and training of workers to prevent accidents. The case base built so far is limited to the construction of expressway bridges. There is much need for further research since the simulation of possible accidents is to be a good means to enhance safety awareness of construction workers.

  • A cDNA clone for a salicylic acid-induced gene in Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa subsp. pekinensis) was isolated and characterized. The cabbage gene, designated Br-sil1 (for $\underline{B}$rassica $\underline{r}$apa $\underline{s}$alicylate-$\underline{i}$nduced $\underline{l}$lipase-like 1 gene), encodes a putative lipase that has the family II lipase motif GDSxxDxG around the active site serine. A database search showed that plant genomes have a large number of genes that contain the family II lipase motif. The lipase-like proteins include a myrosinase-associated protein, an anther-specific proline-rich protein APG, a pollen coat protein EXL, and an early nodule-specific protein. The Br-sil1 gene is strongly induced by salicylic acid and a non-host pathogen, Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato, that elicits a hypersensitive response in Chinese cabbage. Treatment of the cabbage leaves with BTH, methyl jasmonate, or ethephon showed that the Br-sil1 gene expression is induced by BTH, but not by methyl jasmonate or ethylene. This indicates that the cabbage gene is activated via a salicylic acid-dependent signaling pathway. An examination of the tissue-specific expression revealed that the induction of the Br-sil1 gene expression by BTH occurs in leaves and stems, but not in roots and flowers. Without the BTH treatment, however, the Br-sil1 gene is not expressed in any of the tissues that were examined.

  • Salmonella gallinarum is a pathogen that is capable of causing disease in Korean native chicken. Although Salmonella gallinarum is important world-wide pathogens of poultry, little is understood of the mechanisms of pathogenesis of Salmonella gallinarum in the chicken. This study was to investigate chicken liver proteins affected by infection of Salmonella gallinarum in Korean native chicken. The differentially expressed proteins of chicken livers were identified by using 2-dimensional electro- phoresis (2D-E) and mass spectrometry (MS). We detected more than 300 protein spots on silver stained 2D gels using pH 3∼10 gradients. Three differentially expressed protein spots were analyzed by MALDI-TOF MS and MS/MS. The obtained MS and MS/MS data were searched against a protein database using the Mascot search engine. Further researches on the identified proteins can give valuable information of mechanism of pathogenesis in chicken.
