  • Learners and users of a second language have to resort to a variety of conversational strategies or structures to enable them to communicate effectively and competently. Factors affecting effective communication among English as a second or English as foreign language (ESL/EFL) learners are diverse in nature because of different socio-cultural backgrounds. Gambits as a conversational strategy are used to a large extent and teachers must be made aware of such conversational strategies used by English as second or foreign language learners. Thus, studies focusing on conversational strategies among ESL/EFL learners in the English language classroom are important in order to identify the types of conversational strategies used and to help teachers to understand the appropriate conversational strategies and structures. Such understanding can be used to guide learners to use correct conversational strategies when communicating in English. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the use of gambits as a communication strategy in conversation among non-native speakers of English in an English as a second language(ESL) context based on Kellers conversational strategy signals. • This study is intended to look into the effects of depression and stress on college life adjustment of ophthalmic optics students. To achieve this, a survey was empirically carried out to 142 male and female students majoring in ophthalmic optics at colleges in Gangwon-do. The findings are as follows: Depression had a significant effect on academic adjustment and social adjustment, but no significant effect on emotional adjustment and college satisfaction. Stress also had a significant effect on academic adjustment, but no significant effect on social adjustment, emotional adjustment and college satisfaction. The above results showed that depression and stress were major factors affecting academic and social adjustments, and academic adjustment, respectively. Which means that depression restricted the activities of academic adjustment and social adjustment, and did not have a close relationship with psychological mechanisms - emotional adjustment and college life satisfaction. Stress also had a significant effect on academic adjustment, but did not have a direct relationship with social adjustment, emotional adjustment and college satisfaction.

  • The two-state or mutual M-integral which is derived from tile M-integral and is applicable for two elastic states, is applied for computing all intensity of a singular near-tip field around the vertex of a class of wedge, encountered in adhesive lap joints under mechanical loading. Numerically we verify that a simple auxiliary field associated with every eigenfunction for the composite wedge under consideration exists in the form of the conjugate solution in the sense of tile M-integral. The auxiliary field is then employed for superposition with the elastic field under consideration, and the associated two-state M-integral is computed via the domain integral technique. This enables us to extract the intensity for a singular field information for a singular elastic boundary layer is extracted form the domain integral representation without resort to singular finite element for the wedge vertex.

  • A great number of different pile-driving formulas are widely used to determine the load-carr-ying capacity during driving. However, engineers have been unable to agree on any particular pile.driving formula because the mechanisms of pile driving action which involves many complications such as hammer-pile-soil interaction could not be solved completely in any practical manner. This paper is presented for the purpose of giving field engineers a reliable analytical procedures for the prediction of pile.driving resistance without resort to electronic computers based on the theory of longitudinal wave transmission in conjunction with the wave equation and on the consideration of the effect of residual stresses induced by reversed friction in pile.

  • So in terms of the changing of marketing strategies, it is widely required to resort to SNS or other newly invented marketing methods capable of make up for the lack of communication with clients or the duplicity of information which could be found in the existing internet-based marketing method. Like any other businesses, real estate market has to respond to the change of conditions with marketing-oriented management.

  • In this paper, I made a comparative study of design process of Kuryong-Ri, Keumsong-Myun, Chechon City, Chungbuk Province which is one of rural communities in Korea and framing process of master plan for Hama street at Sirahama town on Wakayama Ken, famous hot-bath resort in Japan. Both processes have common points to adopt identical design philosophy and method called 'Pattern Language'. The aim of this study to provide valuable reference for applying at community design by the people in the future, though analyzing common and unlike points, laying stress on the process of user-participation rather than its final results. It is possible confirm Pattern Language is effective tool for carrying out community design by the people.

  • This study area, Sanbang mountain located in southern part of Jeju island, is famous for its scenic with increasing foreigners and visitors. However, rockfall frequently occurred because of the meteorological characteristic and geological features with trachyte, a sort of volcanic rock, is distributed through Sanbang mountain area and also additional rockfalls are being existed all the time. Therefore this research is to see reasonable countermeasure against rockfall with the subject of a roundabout way of Sanbang mountain, through field investigation and following analysis.

  • Relationships between accumulations of endocrine disruptors and abnormalities in the reproductive organs in the adult male striped field mice, Apodemus agrarius, were reviewed. High levels of phenolic compounds were detected in the mice collected at an agricultural village in Gaduck island and at a place having a sewage problem in Samdong-myeon, Namhae. High levels of organo tin compounds were found in the mice collected at Jiri Mt. a tourist resort. Considerably high levels of phenolic or organo tin compounds were detected in mice with shrunken reproductive organs accounting for 14∼42% of the mice examined in each area, which suggests that the abnormality of reproductive organs may be induced by the endocrine disruptors. This hypothesis is strongly supported by histological observations of shrunken reproductive organs, such as necrosis of testicular germ and epithelial cells. This was found not only in the mice with shrunken reproductive organs but also in the mice with enlarged reproductive organs, both had accumulated high levels of endocrine disruptors in general.

  • This tudy is to survey and analysis the water quality phase of Agricultural reservoirs through the case study of 18 reservoirs in Kyungpook Province in preparation for prevention disasters from the environmental hazards such as water pollutions. In these cases, the most hazardous pollution acts were Domestic animals excrements firstly, Human living wastge water secondly, Tourist resort sewage and Fertilize waste etc. in regular sequences. In the analysed results, pH, EC, BOD, DO, Cu, Ph, Cd were less than standard values recommended by the Environmental Authority and so they were estimated in scope of the safety value respectively. But few of factors being gradually closed with the hazardous point in the few places. At present, the hazardous environmental acts originated from the Domestic animals ex-crements, Human living waste water and Fertilize waste etc. in case the agricultural reservoirs, have to strongly be improved much better than before and prepared safety conditions for the rural living and agricultural life sciences.
