Recently, the demand for high-resolution satellite images increases in many fields such as land monitoring and terrain analysis. Therefore, the need for geometric correction is increasing. As an automatic precision geometric correction method, there is a method of automatically extracting the GCP by matching between the GCP Chip and the satellite image. For automatic precision geometric correction, the success rate of matching GCP Chip and satellite image is important. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the matching performance of the manufactured GCP Chip. In order to evaluate the matching performance of GCP Chips, a total of 3,812 GCP Chips in South Korea were used as experimental data. The GCP Chip matching results of KOMPSAT-3A and Google Map showed similar matching results. Therefore, we determined that Google Map satellite imagery could replace high-resolution satellite imagery. Also, presented a method using center point and error radius of Google Map to reduce the time required to verify matching performance. As a result, it is best to set the optimum error radius to 8.5m. Evaluated the matching performance of GCP Chips in South Korea using Google Maps. And verified matching result using presented method. As a result, the GCP Chip s in South Korea had a matching success rate of about 94%. Also, the main matching failure factors were analyzed by matching failure GCP Chips. As a result, Except for GCP Chips that need to be remanufactured, the remaining GCP Chips can be used for the automatic geometric correction of satellite images.
In this paper we applied Ground-Based Synthetic Aperture Radar(GB-SAR) interferometry to detect artificial displacement of a reflector and performed an atmospheric humidity correction to improve the accuracy. A series of GB-SAR images were obtained using a center frequency of 5.3 GHz with a range resolution of 25 cm and a azimuth resolution of $0.324^{\circ}$, all in full-polarization (HH, VV, VH, HV) modes. A triangular trihedral corner reflector was located 160 m away from the system, and the artificial displacements of 0-40 mm was implemented during the GB-SAR image acquisition. The result showed that the RMS error between the actual and measured displacements, averaged in all polarization data, was 1.22 mm, while the maximum error in case of the 40 mm displacement was 2.72 mm at HH-polarization. After the atmospheric correction with respect to the humidity, the RMS error was reduced to 0.52 mm. We conclude that a GB-SAR system can be used to monitor the possible displacement of artificial/natural scatterers and the stability assessment with sub-millimeter accuracy.
Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) is utilized as an indicator to represent the vegetation condition on the land surface in various applications such as land cover, crop yield, agricultural drought, soil moisture, and forest disaster. However, satellite optical sensors for visible and infrared rays cannot see through the clouds, so the NDVI of the cloud pixel is not a valid value for the land surface. This study proposed a real-time correction of the underestimation noise for GEO-KOMPSAT-2A (GK2A) daily NDVI and made sure its feasibility through the quantitative comparisons with Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) NDVI and the qualitative interpretation of time-series changes. The underestimation noise was effectively corrected by the procedures such as the time-series correction considering vegetation phenology, the outlier removal using long-term climatology, and the gap filling using rigorous statistical methods. The correlation with MODIS NDVI was higher, and the difference was lower, showing a 32.7% improvement compared to the original NDVI product. The proposed method has an extensibility for use in other satellite products with some modification.

This study evaluates the impact of Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aerosol optical depth (AOD) expected error (EE) on the accuracy of surface reflectance (SR) derived from the KOMPSAT-3A satellite, utilizing the Second Simulation of the Satellite Signal in the Solar Spectrum Vector radiative transfer model. By considering a range of ground-based AOD and the resultant MODIS AOD EE, the research identifies significant influences on SR accuracy, particularly under high solar zenith angles(SZA) and shorter wavelengths. The study's simulations reveal that SR errors increase with shorter wavelengths and higher SZAs, highlighting the necessity for further research to improve atmospheric correction algorithms by incorporating wavelength and SZA considerations. Additionally, the study provides foundational data for better understanding the use of AOD data from other satellites in atmospheric correction processes and contributes to advancing atmospheric correction technologies.

The purpose of this study is to examine the image-based atmospheric correction models using the data from Landsat Enhanced Thermal Mapper Plus (ETM+) that have quite similar spectral characteristics to the forthcoming KOrea Multi-Purpose SATellite (KOMPSAT)-2 Multi-Spectral Camera (MSC), and the in-situ measured surface reflectance data during satellite overflight. The main advantage of this type of correction is that it does not require in-situ measurements during each satellite overflight. While substantial differences are present between Top-Of-the Atmosphere (TOA) reflectance and in-situmeasurements, the results showed that Case 1 based on COST model gives most accurate results among three cases. The accuracy of Case 2_1 is very close to Case 1 and its values are smaller than in-situ data. No notable features appear between some bands in the Case 3_1 and in-situ data. It is expected from this study that if the current methods are applied to the IKONOS high resolution data, we will be able to develop the suitable atmospheric correction methods for MSC data.
The parallel beam SPECT acquires projection data by using parallel hole collimators in conjunction with photon detectors. Those projection data of the parallel beam SPECT are, however, contaminated by the distance dependent blurring because of the inaccuracy of the point response function of the collimator that is used to define the range of directions where photons can be detected. Thus an efficient aperture correction is required. In this paper we propose a distance dependent backprojection method to overcome the time limitation of iterative aperture correction methods and the performance limitation of Fourier-Distance Relation based method. The proposed method achieves aperture correction and fast image reconstruction by replacing the distance independent backprojection of the direct image reconstruction with the distance dependent one. We conducted several simulations to compare the performance of the proposed method with that of the conventional Fourier-Distance Relation based method. The simulation result shows that the proposed method outperforms the Fourier-Distance Relation based method in spatial resolution and robustness against noise.
This paper is related to the correction of radiometric distortions induced by topographic relief. RADARSAT SAR image data were obtained over the mountainous area near southern part of Seoul. Initially, the SAR data was geometrically corrected and registered to plane rectangular coordinates so that each pixel of the SAR image has known topographic parameters. The topographic parameters (slope and aspect) at each pixel position were calculated from the digital elevation model (DEM) data having a comparable spatial resolution with the SAR data. Local incidence angle between the incoming microwave and the surface normal to terrain slope was selected as a primary geometric factor to analyze and to correct the radiometric distortions. Using digital maps of forest stands, several fields of rather homogeneous forest stands were delineated over the SAR image. Once the effects of local incidence angle on the radar backscatter were defined, the radiometric correction was performed by an empirical fuction that was derived from the relationship between the geometric parameters and mean radar backscatter. The correction effects were examined by ground truth data.
In spatio-temporal fusion aiming at predicting images with both high spatial and temporal resolutionsfrom multi-sensor images, the radiometric inconsistency between input multi-sensor images may affect prediction performance. This study investigates the effect of radiometric correction, which compensate different spectral responses of multi-sensor satellite images, on the spatio-temporal fusion results. The effect of relative radiometric correction of input images was quantitatively analyzed through the case studies using Sentinel-2, PlanetScope, and RapidEye images obtained from two croplands. Prediction performance was improved when radiometrically corrected multi-sensor images were used asinput. In particular, the improvement in prediction performance wassubstantial when the correlation between input images was relatively low. Prediction performance could be improved by transforming multi-sensor images with different spectral responses into images with similar spectral responses and high correlation. These results indicate that radiometric correction is required to improve prediction performance in spatio-temporal fusion of multi-sensor satellite images with low correlation.
Purpose: Soft tissue attenuation and scattering are major methodological limitations of myocardial perfusion SPECT. To overcome these limitations, algorithms for attenuation, scatter correction and resolution recovery (ASCRR) is being developed, while quantitative myocardial SPECT has also become available. In this study, we investigated the efficacy of an ASCRR-corrected quantitative myocardial SPECT method for the diagnosis of coronary artery disease (CAD). Materials and Methods: Seventy-five patients (M:F=51:24, $61.0{\pm}8.9$ years old) suspected of CAD who underwent coronary angiography (CAG) within $7{\pm}12$ days of SPECT(Group-I) and 20 subjects (M:F=10:10, age $40.6{\pm}9.4$) with a low likelihood of coronary artery disease (Group-II) were enrolled. Tl-201 rest/ dipyridamole-stress Tc-99m-MIBI gated myocardial SPECT was performed. ASCRR correction was peformed using a Gd-153 line source and automatic software (Vantage-Pro; ADAC Labs, USA). Using a 20-segment model, segmental perfusion was automatically quantified on both the ASCRR-corrected and uncorrected images using an automatic quantifying software (AutoQUANT; ADAC Labs.). Using these quantified values, CAD was diagnosed in each of the 3 coronary arterial territories. The diagnostic performance of ASCRR-corrected SPECT was compared with that of non-corrected SPECT. Results: Among the 75 patients of Group-I, 9 patients had normal CAG while the remaining 66 patients had 155 arterial lesions; 61 left anterior descending (LAD), 48 left circumflex (LCX) and 46 right coronary (RCA) arterial lesions. For the LAD and LCX lesions, there was no significant difference in diagnostic performance. In Group-II patients, the overall normalcy rate improved but this improvement was not statistically significant (p=0.07). However, for RCA lesions, specificity improved significantly but sensitivity worsened significantly with ASCRR correction (both p<0.05). Overall accuracy was the same. Conclusion: The ASCRR correction did not improve diagnostic performance significantly although the diagnostic specificity for RCA lesions improved on quantitative myocardial SPECT. The clinical application of the ASC-RR correction requires more discretion regarding cost and efficacy.
