A new mungbean cultivar "Sohyeon" (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek) was bred from the cross between "Suwon28" and "KM94004" at the Jeollanamdo Agricultural Research & Extension Services (JARES) in 2006. "Sohyeon" has erect type, heart shape leaflet, green hypocotyl, black and straight pod when matured, and dull green seed surface. This new cultivar shows 42 g per a thousand seed weight. And sprout yield was up to 9% more than that of comparison cultivar "Owool". It contains 12.0, 12.4 mg/g of vitexin and isovitexin, respectively, which was shown about 38, 31% more than comparison cultivar. It shows resistance to mungbean mottle virus, cercospora leaf spot, and powdery mildew in the normal cultivate condition. The average yield of this cultivar shows 1.62 ton/ha, which was 7% more than comparison cultivar.

Effector-triggered immunity (ETI) is an effective layer of plant defense initiated upon recognition of avirulence (Avr) effectors from pathogens by cognate plant disease resistance (R) proteins. In rice, a large number of R genes have been characterized from various cultivars and have greatly contributed to breeding programs to improve resistance against the rice blast pathogen Magnaporthe oryzae. The extreme diversity of R gene repertoires is thought to be a result of co-evolutionary history between rice and its pathogens including M. oryzae. Here we show that Pii is an allele of Pi5 by DNA sequence characterization and complementation analysis. Pii-1 and Pii-2 cDNAs were cloned by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction from the Pii-carrying cultivar Fujisaka5. The complementation test in susceptible rice cultivar Dongjin demonstrated that the rice blast resistance mediated by Pii, similar to Pi5, requires the presence of two nucleotide-binding leucine-rich repeat genes, Pii-1 and Pii-2. Consistent with our hypothesis that Pi5 and Pii are functionally indistinguishable, the replacement of Pii-1 by Pi5-1 and Pii-2 by Pi5-2, respectively, does not change the level of disease resistance to M. oryzae carrying AVR-Pii. Surprisingly, Exo70F3, required for Pii-mediated resistance, is dispensable for Pi5-mediated resistance. Based on our results, despite similarities observed between Pi5 and Pii, we hypothesize that Pi5 and Pii pairs require partially distinct mechanisms to function.
This study was conducted to develop a japonica-type rice cultivar with brown planthopper (BPH) resistance using DNA markers. A doubled haploid (DH) population consisting of 120 pure-lines was established by anther culture of $F_1$ hybrids between 'Samgang', a Tongil type BPH resistance cultivar, and 'Nagdong', a japonica cultivar. To determine the map position of genes responsible for BPH resistance in rice, a genetic map was constructed based on 120 DH lines. A total of 162 molecular markers were classified into 12 linkage groups, covering 1,884 Kosami centimorgan (cM) with an average of 11.6 cM. Five QTLs (qBPR3, qBPR6, qBPR7, qBPR8, and qBPR12) associated with BPH resistance were identified and mapped on chromosomes 3, 6, 7, 8, and 12, respectively, using the genetic map constructed in this study. To analyze the relationship between BPH resistance and agronomic traits, a total of eight QTLs related to the agronomic traits were detected on 12 rice chromosomes. In an analysis of relationships, three QTLs (qBPR3, qBPR7, and qBPR8) showed a linkage with tested agronomic traits. A QTL (qBPR3) located on chromosome 3 (RM282-3023) was closely linked to culm length (qCL3). The QTL (qBPR8) for BPH resistance on the short arm of chromosome 8 also overlapped the region detected in culm length (qCL8).

A new spray rose cultivar 'Glory Purple' was bred from the cross between a pink spray cultivar 'Macarena' and a pink spray cultivar 'Million Pink' at the National Institute of Horticulture & Herbal Science. The cross was made in 2004 and a candidate genotype which named as 'Glory Purple' was selected in 2009 after three years investigation for agronomical characters from 2007 to 2009. 'Glory Purple', a purple colored spray cultivar, has vigorous growth and has powdery mildew resistance. The major characteristics of this cultivar are high yield and long stem with relatively large flower size with $157stems/m^2/year$ in yield, 63.5 cm in mean length of cut flower, 6.8 cm in mean flower diameter, 25.78 in mean petal number, and 10.2 days in mean vase life. This cultivar is suitable for propagation by both cutting and grafting methods. The consumer's preference of this cultivar is relatively higher than that of the control cultivars, 'Pinky and Charming'.
A rose cultivar "Haedoji" developed at the Jeollanamdo Agricultural Research and Extention Services (JARES) is a standard type with deep Red flower. From 2000, two cultivars 'Vital' and 'Cardinal' were examined for horticultural characteristics and were included in cross-combination in 2003. Cultivar 'Vital', a vigorous standard type, first preference with red flower, was used as a mother plant and cultivar 'Cardinal', a red flower standard type with light color, was used as a pollen-donor plant. seventeen six breeding lines were selected in 2004 based on flower shape, flower color and abundance of petal numbers on the first selection. two breeding lines were selected in 2004 based on powderly mildew and vigor on the second selection. For three years, from 2005 till 2007, one breeding lines were selected and examined for their productivity, and then cultivar "Haedoji" was developed because of distinctive characters such as light red color flower, upright stem, long vase-life and Resistance to the Powderly Mildew. A standard type with intermediate sized flower, cultivar "Haedoji" shows in average 9.2 cm flower diameter, 62.0 cm flower stem length, and 9.5 days vase-life. The average productivity for three years was $167.3stems{\cdot}m^{-2}$ per year and increased 2% compare to cultivar 'Tiamo' with $163.9stems{\cdot}m^{-2}$ per year.
Starch contents in healthy and powdery mildew-infected spring barley leaves at first and fifth leaf stages were measured at different intervals after inoculation. Different patterns of starch accumulation in the susceptible cultivar Peruvian and the adult plant resistant cultivar Asse were found in infected first and fifth leaves. At the early phase of infection, the amount of starch in infected first leaves was slightly changed in both cultivars. During colony development and sporulation, the decrease in starch content was .more marked in the susceptible Peruvian, whereas the amounts of starch in the adult plant resistant Asse increased during colony development and then decreased sharply before and after sporulation. In heavily infected first leaves, the susceptible cultivar Peruvian showed a drastic decrease in starch content. In the adult plant resistant cultivar Asse, the higher amount of starch retained in these infected leaves, regardless of infection intensity. The regulation of starch accumulation in mildewed barley plants at different leaf stages was discussed in relation to adult plant resistance of spring barley.
In this study, resistance responses were investigated during the interaction of Botrytis fabae with two faba bean cultivars expressing different levels of resistance against this pathogen, Nubaria (resistant) and Giza 40 (susceptible). Disease severity was assessed on leaves using a rating scale from 1 to 9. Accumulation levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), lipid peroxidation and antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase, catalase and ascorbate peroxidase) were measured in leaf tissues at different times of infection. The expression profiles of two pathogenesis-related proteins (PRPs) encoded by the genes PR-1 and ${\beta}$-1,3-glucanase were also investigated using reverse transcription RT-PCR analysis. The accumulation of these defense responses was induced significantly in both cultivars upon infection with B. fabae compared with un-inoculated controls. The resistant cultivar showed weaker necrotic symptom expression, less ROS accumulation, a lower rate of lipid peroxidation and higher activity of the enzymatic ROS scavenging system compared with susceptible cultivar. Interestingly, ROS accumulated rapidly in the resistant leaf tissues and peaked during the early stages of infection, whereas accumulation was stronger and more intense in the susceptible tissues in later stages. Moreover, the response of the resistant cultivar to infection was earlier and stronger, exhibiting high transcript accumulation of the PR genes. These results indicated that the induction of oxidant/antioxidant responses and the accumulation of PRPs are part of the faba bean defense mechanism against the necrotrophic fungus B. fabae with a different intensity and timing of induction, depending on the resistance levels.

Gomchwi using stuffed leaves is many cultivated for 'Gondalbi(Ligularia stenocephala)' among Gomchwi species. 'Gondalbi' species like to be cultivation on farm because of low the incense and the bitter taste, and high yield. But 'Gondalbi' caused to curtail yield that susceptibility of powdery mildew disease and shriveling and death of plant on summer season. To solve this problems, we crossed a Gomchwi and 'Handeari-gomchwi' to have resistance of powdery mildew disease and high yield. A new Gomchwi cultivar 'Jinmani' was bred by crossing between Gomchwi (Ligularia fischeri (Ledeb.) Turcz.) and Handaeri-gomchwi (Ligularia fischeri var. spiciformis Nakai). The selection and investigation of growth and yield characteristics were conducted from 2007 to 2020 in field and greenhouse of Highland Agriculture Research Institute, NICS, Rural Development Administration. The color of petiole ear was purple. trichome of petiole and leaf back non-existed, and luster of leaf back existed. Density of leaf vein was 4 degree among 1-5 degree in a newly developed cultivar 'Jinmani'. Plant height, leaf length, leaf width and petiole length were 55.7, 21.8, 22.2, and 33.9 cm, respectively in the 2nd year of growth characteristics. Plant size was similar with that of 'Gommany'. Bolting and flowering time were Aug. 5 and Sept. 5, respectively, and Bolting and flowering time of 'Gommany' showed similar to Aug. 8 and Sept. 1, respectively. 'Jinmani' showed higher number of leaves (202 ea.) per plant compared to 'Gommany' (159 ea.). Furthermore, yield was 67.9% higher in 'Jinmani' (2,569 g/plant) than in 'Gommany' (1,530 g/plant). 'Jinmani' showed lower leaf thickness (0.66mm) than 'Gommany' (0.69 mm), and consequently showed more hardness in leaf characteristics (25.1 kg/2) compared to 'Gommany' (24.3kg/cm2). 'Jinmani' showed similar strong resistance compared to 'Gommany' in the susceptibility of powdery mildew disease.
A mungbean cultivar 'Juhyeon' (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek) was derived from the cross between Keumseong and VC1834-4-B-2-B-3B-B at Jeollanamdo Agricultural Research & Extension Services (JARES) in 2009. 'Juhyeon' has an erect growth habit, heart leaflet, green hypocotyl, black and straight pod when matured, and dull green seed surface. The pod number per plant was 26, which was 8 more than check cultivar 'Owool'. The plant height and thousand seed weight were 66 cm and 47 g, respectively. This cultivar has field resistance to mungbean mottle virus, cercospora leaf spot, powdery mildew, and lodging. The sprout yield was up to 18% more than that of the check cultivar. The average yield was 1.84 MT/ha, which was 6% more than the check cultivar.
