The First stars (Pop.III stars) in the universe are expected to be formed between the recombination era at z - 1100 and the most distant quasar (z - 8). They have never been directly detected due to its faintness so far, but can be observed as a background radiation at around 1${\mu}m$ which is called the Cosmic Near-Infrared Background (CNB). Main part of the CNB is thought to be redshifted Lyman-alpha from gas clouds surrounding the Pop.III stars. Until now, the COBE (COsmic Background Explorer) and the IRTS (Infrared Telescope in Space) observed excess emission over the background due to galaxies. To confirm the COBE and the IRTS results and pursue more observational evidences, we carried out the sounding rocket experiment named the Cosmic Infrared Background ExpeRiment (CIBER). The CIBER is successfully launched on July 10, 2010 at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, USA. It consists of three kinds of instruments. We report the results obtained by LRS (Low Resolution Spectrometer) which is developed to fill the uncovered spectrum around 1${\mu}m$. LRS is a refractive telescope of 5.5 cm aperture with spectral resolution of 20 - 30 and wavelength coverage of 0.7 to 2.0${\mu}m$. After subtracting foreground components (zodiacal light, integrated star light and diffuse galactic light) from the sky brightness of observed five fields, there remained significant residual emission (even for the lower limit case) consistent with the IRTS and the COBE results. In addition, there exists a clear gap at 0.7 - 0.8${\mu}m$ in the CNB spectrum over the background due to galaxies according to recent results (Matsuoka et al. 2011; Mattila et al. 2011). The origin of the excess emission could be ascribed to the Pop.III stars with its active era of z = 7 - 10.

In this study, the effect of the C/SiC composition ratio on the impact damage of a reaction sintered SiC (RS-SiC) plates was evaluated. An impact test was conducted by using an air gun. The impacter used was a steel ball with a diameter of 2 mm, and the impact velocities were 113, 122, and 180 m/s. The RS-SiC plates were $20\times20\times3$ mm with different C/SiC composition ratios. The ring crack diameters damaged by a steel ball were determined using SEM images. It was observed that the maximum diameter increased with increasing impact velocity, and it rapidly changed with increasing C/SiC composition ratio because of the effect of residual Si and the variation flexural strength. Cone cracks were formed in the case of C/SiC composition ratios of 0.4~0.5, this indicated that the impact damage changed from a ring crack to a cone crack in this critical range of C/SiC composition ratios. The C/SiC composition ratio of 0.3 was determined to be the optimal ratio for the RS-SiC manufacturing process.
We evaluated the effect of adding mechanically deboned chicken meat (MDCM) (0, 10, 20, 30 or 50%) on quality characteristics of chicken sausage. Adding MDCM decreased the protein content of chicken sausage, but ash content increased significantly. Adding MDCM had no effect on pH and water holding capacity of sausage. Adding MDCM increased cooking loss, but did not affect the shear force value of the sausage. Adding MDCM decreased the L- (lightness) and b- (yellowness) values but increased the a- (redness) value of sausage. Adding MDCM decreased the hardness and cohesiveness values, but did not affect the springiness value of chicken sausage. Adding MDCM decreased the juiciness and hardness but increased the flavor and chewiness scores of chicken sausage. Regardless of the MDCM addition level, all chicken sausage contained low residual nitrite ion (<4 ppm). During the 10 d of storage at $4^{\circ}C$, adding MDCM did not affect total microbial count or TBA values of chicken sausage, but the VBN value of the sausage increased slightly. However, all storage characteristic values in the sausage were within the safety range. Adding MDCM (0, 10 or 20%) to chicken sausage resulted in a finely structured protein matrix under scanning electron microscopy (SEM), which indicated a good meat emulsion, but adding MDCM at more than 20% resulted in a very coarse protein matrix structure.

The southern tidal flat of Kanghwa Island is one of the biggest flats on the west coast of Korea. Tide is typically a semidiurnal with maximum range of about 10m. The tidal flat receives large amount of sediments from Han River system. Surface sediments for sedimentary analyses were sampled at 83 stations in the study area in August 2003. The surface sediments consisted of five sedimentary facies. Generally, sandy mud sediments dominated in the southern tidal flat of Kanghwa Island, whereas sand sediments dominated in channel and subtidal zones of the western part of Kanghwa Island. The area of sandy mud sediment extended to eastward tidal flat compared to sedimentary facies in August 1997. Sedimentary facies analysis of three core sediments from the tidal flat to the south of the Kangwha Island revealed three sedimentary facies: trough-cross-bedded sand, laminated silt, and bioturbated silt. Distribution of the facies in the cores suggested that sedimentation rates has been generally high in the margin of main tidal channel, especially in the east of the Donggeum Island. Twelve-and-half-hour anchoring survey was carried out for measurements of hydrodynamic parameters at Yeomha channel near Choji Bridge(K1) and channel near Donggeum Island(K2) in June 2003. Residual flows indicated strong ebb-dominated tidal currents. Depth-integrated net suspended sediment loads for one tidal cycle were seaward movement with 309,217.9kg/m and 128,123.1kg/m at station K1 and K2, respectively. The higher value of net suspended sediment loads at station K1 suggested that lots of suspended sediments from Han River deposited in the eastern part of tidal flat.

Dielectric properties and shape memory characteristics of SBS composites filled with carbon black as conductive filler and (Ba,Ca)$(Sn,Ti)O_3$ or $SrTiO_3$ as dielectrics were investigated for the development of phantom model. SBS/carbon black composite showed an increment of complex dielectric constant with increasing the content of carbon black and the frequency dependence that the dielectric constant decreases with the frequency. The complex dielectric constant and the conductivity of SBS/carbon black/dielectrics composites increased with the increase of dielectrics and the characteristics of the frequency dependence also occurred by the effect of carbon black. Phantom materials with the dielectric properties and the conductivity corresponding to human tissues for the measurement of specific absorption rate(SAR) within the frequency range of current mobile phones(775MHz~2GHz) could be developed by adjusting the composition ratios of carbon black, dielectrics and SBS and by controlling the characteristic of frequency dependence of composite. From thermomechanical cycling test good shape recoverability could be obtained in SBS composite even though the residual strain was increased by the effect of filler.

ZnO films were produced on the Si(100) and sapphire(0001) wafers by RF magnetron sputtering in terms of processing variables such as substrate temperature and RF power. The stress in films was obtained from the Stoney's formula using a laser scanning device. The stress levels in the films showed the range from $\~40$ MPa to $\~-1100$MPa depending on processing variables. The specimens were thermally cycled from R.T. to $250^{\circ}C$ to investigate the stress variation as a function of temperature. SEM was employed to characterize the microstructure of te films. As the substrate temperature increased, the film surface became rougher and the films showed coarser grains. The optical property o the films was studied by PL measurements. At the highest substrate temperature $800^{\circ}C$ the film exhibited sharper UV peaks unlike other conditions.

In this study, we developed a relational formula for observing high - resolution rainfall using vehicle rain sensor. The vehicle rain sensor consists of eight channels. Each channel generates a sensor signal by detecting the amount of rainfall on the windshield of the vehicle when rainfall occurs. The higher the rainfall, the lower the sensor signal is. Using these characteristics of the sensor signal generated by the rain sensor, we developed a relational expression. In order to generate specific rainfall, an artificial rainfall generator was constructed and the change of the sensor signal according to the variation of the rainfall amount in the artificial rainfall generator was analyzed. Among them, the optimal sensor channel which reflects various rainfall amounts through the sensitivity analysis was selected. The sensor signal was generated in 5 minutes using the selected channel and the representative values of the generated 5 - minute sensor signals were set as the average, 25th, 50th, and 75th quartiles. The calculated rainfall values were applied to the actual rainfall data using the constructed relational equation and the calculated rainfall amount was compared with the rainfall values observed at the rainfall station. Although the reliability of the relational expression was somewhat lower than that of the data of the verification result data, it was judged that the experimental data of the residual range was insufficient. The rainfall value was calculated by applying the developed relation to the actual rainfall, and compared with the rainfall value generated by the ground rainfall observation instrument observed at the same time to verify the reliability. As a result, the rain sensor showed a fine rainfall of less than 0.5 mm And the average observation error was 0.36mm.

Adsorption and desorption characteristics of methyl iodide at high temperature conditions up to 25$0^{\circ}C$ by TEDA-impregnated activated carbon and silver-ion exchanged zeolite(AgX-10), which are used for radioiodine retention in nuclear facility, were experimentally evaluated. In the range of temperature from 3$0^{\circ}C$ to 25$0^{\circ}C$, the adsorption capacity of base activated carbon decreased sharply with increasing temperature but that of TEDA-impregnated activated carbon showed higher value even at high temperature ranges. Especially, the residual amount of methyl iodide after desorption on TEDA-AC represented 30% lower value than that on AgX-10. However, it can be used as an adsorbent for the removal of methyl iodide up to 15$0^{\circ}C$ if it is preventing explosion by Ignition. The breakthrough curves of methyl iodide in the fixed bed packed with AgX-10 uP to 40$0^{\circ}C$ were compared upon the effects of bed temperatures, bed depth and input concentration of methyl iodide. Removal mechanism of methyl iodide on AgX-10 was proposed, based on the analysis of by-product gas generated from adsorption reaction.
The protease from Halomonas sp. ES 10 was purified by methanol precipitation, gel filtration on Sephadex G-150 and G-200, and ion exchange chromatography on DEAE-Sephadex A-50. The purified enzyme was found to be homogeneous by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The specific activity of purified enzyme was 1,014 units/mg protein, and the yield of the total activity from the culture filtrate was 7%. The optimal temperature and pH for the enzyme activity were $35^{\circ}C$, and pH 11.0, respectively. And the enzyme was stable in the range of $pH\;7.5{\sim}11.0$. The residual activity of the enzyme was 70%, when the enzyme was incubated at $50^{\circ}C$ for 40 min. The Km value of the enzyme was 7.4 mg/ml to milk casein. $Li^+$, $Ca^{2+}$, SDS and Tween 80 were appeared to activators, whereas $Hg^{2+}$ and EDTA to inhibitors. The addition of DFP and PMSF showed the relative enzyme activities of 63% and 107%, respectively, suggesting that the enzyme may not belong to serine type protease. When the alkaline protease was treated with 0.5 M and 1 M NaCl, the relative enzyme activities were 95% and 65%, respectively. This enzyme showed 20% and 15% higher enzyme activity than that of Aspergillus oryzae (Sigma Chemical Company product, P4755) in the presence of 0.5 M and 1 M NaCl.
The analytical method was established for simultaneous determination of fungicide prochloraz and its metabolites in several animal commodities using gas chromatography (GC) coupled with electron capture detector (ECD). Samples including beef meat, pork meat, chicken meat, milk, and egg were hydrolyzed with pyridine hydrochloride which converts prochloraz and its metabolites to 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (2,4,6-TCP) because residue definition for prochloraz was 'sum of prochloraz and its metabolites containing the 2,4,6-trichlorophenol moiety, expressed as prochloraz', for compliance with MRLs from animal commodities. Therefore, residual prochloraz was extracted with acetone, decomposed to 2,4,6-TCP, partitioned with dichloromethane, purified with aminopropyl SPE and quantified as 2,4,6-TCP with GC-ECD. The instrumental limit of quantitation and method LOQ (MLOQ) was 0.01 ㎍/mL and 0.02 mg/kg for prochloraz and 0.005 ㎍/mL and 0.01 mg/kg for 2,4,6-TCP, respectively. The linearity of the calibration curve was good with R2 >0.995 in the range of 0.005-0.2 ㎍/mL. Fortification levels of prochloraz were 0.02 mg/kg (MLOQ) and 0.2 mg/kg (10MLOQ) for recovery tests. Overall recoveries of prochloraz were >90% with <10% of coefficient variation (C.V.). This established analytical method was fully validated and could be useful for quantification of prochloraz and its metabolites in animal commodities as official analytical method.
