  • The concepy of positive aging describles the adverse effects of age on the lifetime of units. Various aspects of this concepts are described in terms of conditional probability distribution of residual life times, failure rates, equilibrium distributions, etc. In this paper we will consider some partial ordering relations of life distribution under residual life functions and equilibrium distributions.

자긴가공된 이중후육실린더의 피로수명에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Fatigue Life of Autofrettaged Compound Cylinder)

  • Thick-walled cylinder with high pressure have had wide application in the armament industry. In the thick-walled cylinder, fatigue crack is generated at inner radius and developed toward the outer radius. To prevent generation of fatigue crack, the autofrettage process had been used. The compressive residual stress induced by the autofrettage process extends loading pressure and fatigue life of the thick-walled cylinder. In this study, the residual stress of single and compound cylinder by the autofrettage process was evaluated. The analytical compressive residual stress of single cylinder was good agreement with experimental result at inner radius. The analysis on the residual stress of compound cylinder was conducted. The compressive residual stress at inner radius was increased with the overstrain level. And fatigue life of the compound cylinder with initial crack was evaluated. The considered initial crack shape was straight and semi-elliptical. The fatigue life was extended with the overstrain level. The fatigue life of the compound cylinder with semi-elliptical crack was longer than straight crack. The suitable way to extend fatigue life of the compound cylinder was proposed.

컨테이너 크레인 붐 구조물의 잔존수명 예측을 위한 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션 (Computer Simulation for Residual Life Expectancy of a Container Crane Boom Structure)

  • The residual life expectancy of the container crane which has been operated more or less 39 years is examined carefully, especially on the boom structure. The basic load and load combination need to be considered for to analyse the boom structure. Various parts of container crane are modeled for to analyse stress, the deflection and the fatigue. Analysis results show that the boom is stable in the stress and deflection but the boom vertical member is over the fatigue life. The rail support beam and boom bottom chord are approximately near the fatigue life. Analysis results show that the residual life of rail support beam and the boom bottom chord would be 2.2 years and 6.8 years, respectively.

  • Fatigue life a box weldment was predicted with the stress concentration and residual stress using the equation reported. In order to change the stress concentration and residual stress of the box weldment, Post treatments such as smooth grinding of weld bead, weld toe grinding and hammer peening were applied. The fatigue life of the weldment after post treatment clearly increased, which is attributed to the reduction of stress concentration and/or introduction of compressive residual stress at the weld toe. The predicted fatigue life was a relatively good agreement with the experiment for a long fatigue life, while it was underestimated for a short fatigue life.

  • The increasing amount of structures presenting distress due to reinforcement corrosion is urging the establishment of more accurate calculation methods for the service life of concrete structures. In the present paper, a summary of the different approaches is presented that are able to calculate the expected life of new structures, in certain aggressive environments or the residual life of already corroding structures. The methods for the initiation period are based on the proper calculation of the carbonation front or chloride penetration and on the steel corrosion rate. The methods for the residual load-bearing capacity calculations are based in the use of ' indicators ' or in the evaluation of the reduced section and a structural recalculation.

쇼트피이닝한 부재의 피로수명 예측 및 피로강도 평가 (Fatigue Life Prediction and Strength Evaluation of Shot Peened Parts)

  • A review was performed on fatigue life prediction and strength evaluation of shot peened parts. Fatigue strength of machine parts can be improved by shot peening due to compressive residual stresses on such parts. Compressive residual stress cannot be uniquely define by peening intensity. Several measuring methods of residual stress and the principle of hole drilling method are presented. Exploratory measurement of residual stress was performed on the shot peened SM35C plate with the hole drilling method. Fatigue life and failure location of shot peened parts under bending load can be predicted by a damage parameter which is incorporated with material properties, residual stress, and applied stress conditions. Some method are presented to predict the fatigue strength of shot peened parts at any given life. Shot peening gives its full benefit to the notched machine parts of high strength steels.

  • 본 연구에서는 피로 잔류강도저하(fatigue residual strength degradation) 개념을 이용하여 복합재료의 잔류강도와 피로수명을 예측하고 실험을 통하여 비교 평 가하였으며, 설계시 고려되어야 할 인자를 파악하여 파손방지를 위한 유한 수명설계 및 손상허용설계의 기본자료를 집적함으로서 새로운 소재인 탄소섬유 강화 복합재료의 신뢰성 향상을 위한 개발과 고강도 경량화를 위한 이용설계에 활용할 수 있도록 하는 데 그 목적이 있다.

  • Damage often occurs on the surface of railway wheels due to wheel-rail contact fatigue. It should be removed before reaching wheel failure, because wheel failure can cause derailment with loss of life and property. The increase or decrease of the contact fatigue lift by the metal removal of the contact surface were investigated by many researchers, but they have not considered initial residual stress and traction force. The railway wheel has the initial residual stress formed during the manufacturing process, and the residual stress is changed by thermal stress induced by braking. The traction force and residual stress are operated on wheels of locomotive and electric motor vehicle. In this study, the effect of metal removal depth on the contact fatigue life for a railway wheel has been evaluated by applying lolling contact fatigue test. The effect of the traction force and metal removal on the contact fatigue life has been estimated by finite element analysis. It has been found that the initial residual stress determines the amount of metal removal depth if the traction coefficient is less than 0.15. If the traction coefficient is greater than 0.2, however, the amount of metal removal depth is independent on the intial residual stress.

  • This paper reports in the investigation results about residual life cycle evaluation of the bogie frames. The investigations consist of following two items. The residual life cycle evaluation and wholesome state developed in the bogie frames. The statistical data of analysis about crack occurrences checked at each part of the bogie frames in preliminary and precision inspections. These results support the possibility of extending the life cycle by 5 years.

차량용 스프링강의 피로균열진전에 미치는 압축잔류응력의 영향 (The Effect of Compressive Residual Stress on The Fatigue life in Spring Steel for vehicles)

  • Nowadays, many components used in machinery industry is required lightness and high strength. The shot-peening method is used in order to improve the fatigue life of spring steel(JIS G SUP-9) which is used in suspension of automobile. The compressive residual is induced in this shot-peening process. This paper investigated the effect of the residual compressive stress on the fatigue crack growth characteristics. Main results are summarized as follows. 1. The fatigue crack growth rate on stage II is conspicuous with the level of compressive residual stress and is dependent on Paris equation. 2. Although the maximum compressive residual stress is deeply and widely formed from surface, it does not improve the fatigue life comparing when maximum compressive residual stress is formed in surface. 3. The threshold stress intensity factor range is increased with increasing compressive residual stress. 4. In fracture surface of fatigue crack growth it is investigated that compressive residual stress remarkably retards fatigue crack growth.
