Techno-economic design of a grid-tied Photovoltaic system for a residential building

  • Increasing cost of electricity due to rising price of fuel is one of the local community's main issues. In this research, switching of grid dependent system to the grid-tied Photovoltaic (PV) system with net metering for a residential building is proposed. The system is designed by considering the maximum energy demand of the building. The designed system is analyzed using RETScreen on technical, economic and environmental grounds. It is found that the system is able to produce 12,000 kWh/year. The system is capable to fulfill the electricity demand of the building during day time and is also capable to sell the energy to the local grid causing the electric meter to run in reverse direction. During night time, electricity will be purchased from grid, and electric meter will run in the forward direction. The system is economically justified with a payback period of only 3 years with net present value of PKR. 4,758,132. Also, the system is able to reduce 7.2 tons of CO2 not produced in the entire life of the project.

  • With today's global environmental and energy problems, high expectations exist for solar power generation to reduce carbon dioxide generated by the consumption of fossil fuels. On the other hand, power consumption in residential homes is increasing every year. Among the many household appliances, the power demand for air conditioners increases dramatically during the summer, particularly in the afternoons. As this pattern closely matches the output pattern of solar cells, it should be possible to combine a photovoltaic array with an air conditioner to decrease the energy consumption within the home. We have developed a residential solar-powered air conditioner that operates through a combination of photovoltaic array and commercial power. In this paper, the configuration and specification of the residential solar-powered system are described to a novel high efficiency inverter using a ZVCS boost converter. And the performance evaluations of the solar-powered air conditioner are examined by the analysis of a new tracking controller with a maximum power $P_{max}$ detection of solar cell.

  • This study was performed for make the plan of large residential zone considering reduction of the traffic noise and landscape, to meet the demand of resident who pursuit the amenity. For the first time, suitable traffic noise prediction model was selected and modified. Also, quantitative analysis of the traffic noise reductor was performed. These results are utilized plan of large residential zone efficiently.

대구시의 주택보급과 주거밀도변화에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Change of the Housing Supply and the Residential Density in Daegu)

  • The purpose of this study is for investigating characteristics of changing residential density and relations between housing supply and redistribution of population in Daegu. As a result, the following conclusions could be made. First, land development and housing supply have important effect on distribution of population and changing residential density in Daegu. Second, according to massive site development to meet the housing demand in suburban area, the suburbanization has begun and build-up-area grows faster, so centre of gravity of residential density increasing rate has moved to the suburban. Third, the inner district and the district near urban centre will need remodelling or redevelopment project in the near future.

  • Hoe beak village (Donggu manseokdong, Akasaki Village) is the oldest slums in Incheon. Recently, 'Mixed residential environment improvement project' is being promoted as Aboriginal entire resettlement goals in place of 'new building reconstruction and redevelopment projects' knock down everything this hoe beak village existed already. Resident representatives meeting configuration goes, but still do business magazine in the right direction. Therefore, in this study, the proposed architectural solutions to meet the demand of residents on the research problems, performed in a manner that the local improved hoe Buri village residential environment improvement projects and analyze the current situation and characteristics. In this study, the following improvements are presented. Prepare guidelines and maintain design guidelines for maintaining the identity of the village, Improve continuous landscape of the village, Construction of mixed-use sanitation facilities, Using a mini-lot and Vacant for Ssamzie Park Development, Units of housing types for Shared housing and co-operation are proposed.

공동주택 주거만족도의 체계적인 분류를 위한 이론적 연구 (A Study on Theoretical Approach for the Residential Satisfaction Index Based on the Apartment Housing)

  • The study aims to establish the systematic residential satisfaction index which reflected perception of high rise residents are demand on the Apartment housing. Apartment house is developed to reduce the housing shortage caused by urbanism after industrialization in Korea. It has increased constantly since the 1970s and has become the most common residential type of Korean city dwellers. It shows Korean dwelling pattern and culture. Furthermore, it can be an index of private wealth. The main purpose of the thesis is the highlight on systematic planning process for actual users' needs. In other words, city planners are eager to reflect each individual preference when he/she designs a house. More practical and accurate research in user's satisfaction of housing can be helpful to overcome limitations of city planner's personal preference which can't provide certain evidences. First, the study has carried out the survey of importance of design elements which were selected on the basis of the results of the POE, Residential Quality, Quality Of Life which were carried out for the same subject. Then, the data were analyzed by SPSS 12+ program package in terms of frequency, factor analysis and reliability analysis. The results reveals that the Residential Satisfaction Index of Apartment housing are consisted of 8 factors which had been sorted out in factor analysis which can be interpreted to be closely related to the Physical, Social psychological and General environment.

주거용 건물의 유형에 따른 환경조절요구에 대한 분석 (An Analysis of Demand for Environmental Controls on Different Residential Building Types)

  • One of the most important functions of a building is to provide thermally comfortable indoor environmental conditions for the occupants. Therefore, a great deal of energy is consumed for heating and cooling to satisfy those thermal requirements. In order to provide thermal comfort with minimum heating and cooling energy consumption, optimal design of building affecting indoor climate is required. This study used the TRNSYS for modeling and simulation of the energy flows of residential building types, and examined the energy efficient measures to reduce the thermal loads. The residential building types are classified into the detached house, apartment house and high-rise residential complex. The results of the simulation show that the heating energy consumption in the detached house is especially high, whereas the cooling load is an important determinant in the apartment house and high-rise residential complex. The measures examined are the insulation thickness, various types of glazing, infiltration, natural and controlled ventilation, solar shading, orientation and etc. Comparative evaluations and sensitivity analyses revealed the effects of these variables and identified their energy efficient building design strategies.

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze the water quantity of the rainwater detention system based on the Planning Simulation in Residential Areas. The contents of this research consists of two main parts. The first part is to calculate the supply water quantity of the rainwater detention system and the demand water quantity of the Wonheungs' ecological park. The second part is to analyze the difference between demand and supply of water quantity, based on the Planning Simulation, in the rainwater detention system. This research will contribute to the establishment of the environment-friendly site planning methods which increase the quality of residential environment in apartment housing.

부산시 지역구조변화와 교통수요의 상관성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Correlativity of the Regional Structure Change and Traffic Demand in Pusan)

  • The purpose of this study is to classify the regional structure of Pusan based on socio-economic phenomena in 1979 and 1991, and to analyze correlations between the regional structure change and traffic demend. To formalize the land-use by each zone, the Principal Component Analysis were performed by using 15 socio-sconomic variables. As a result of the analysis, five land-use factors(i.e., official, residential, commercial, manufactural, and other functions) in 1979 and four factors(i. e., residential, 3rd industrial, manufactural, and other functions) in 1991 were extracted as main regional structure components. It was proved that there is strong correlations between the regional structure change and traffic demand by using Quantification Theory II and also by testing correlation coefficient.

  • Various environmental problems due to rapid industrialization and urbanization have worsened to such an extent that they threaten the environmental restitution of the globe and become a critical international issue. Korean government has presented the concept of green growth as a new state vision for the next 60 years and is making efforts to solve these environmental problems. Daegu Metropolitan City has faced various environmental problems including overpopulation of the city, traffic pollution, household waste accumulation and the green zone problem because of the increase of urbanization over the last few decades. As such urbanization continues, the quality of residential environments is rapidly deteriorating and the intensive use of the land leads to an increase of building area, raising the temperatures of cities. There have therefore been demands for healthy, pleasant and satisfying residential environments and for the improvement of existing residential environments, and this demand has been fully recognized by society. Nevertheless, current residential complex developments concentrate only on raising the efficiency of land use. In related laws of the past (Daegu Metropolitan City, Urban Planning Municipal Ordinance as of October 10, 2003) an attempt was made to impose a standard to segmentalize the building-to-land ratio, floor area ratio and regulations of number of floors vertically. However, these laws have now been abolished and the regulations are being eased. The purpose of this study was to analyze the characteristics of the floating wind before and after the vertical segmentation of residential areas (Daegu Metropolitan City, Urban Planning Municipal Ordinance as of October 10, 2003) by using KLAM_21, a model that enables analysis and prediction of the flow and generation of cold wind. The purpose is also to present a plan to improve the quality of residential areas when developing a building lot and redeveloping housing areas.
