This study analyzed whether the patients' visits to oriental medicine hospitals were influenced by the Euclidean distance from patients' residence to oriental medicine hospitals. Patient who visited two oriental medicine hospitals in a metropolitan area were selected for study sample. The number of patient from each Dong (which is the smallest administrative district) to two hospitals was calculated based on claims data in 2008. ArcGIS was used to calculate the distance. Distance variable was not statistically significant in regression analysis after controlling the difference of socio-economic status of people in each Dong. It seems that distance factor did not play an important role in deciding whether to use the services of oriental medicine hospitals in a metropolitan area.
Chlorine is widely used as a disinfectant in drinking-water systems throughout the world. Chlorine residual was used as an indicator for prediction of water quality in water distribution systems. The variation of chlorine residual in drinking water distribution systems of Suwon city was simulated using EPANET. EPANET is a computerized simulation model which predicts the dynamic hydraulic and water quality behavior within a water distribution system operating over an extended time period. Sampling and analysis were performed to calibrated the computer model in 1999 (Aug. Summer). Water quality variables used in simulations are temperature, roughness coefficient, pipe diameter, pipe length, water demand, velocity and so on. Extended water residence time affected water quality due to the extended reaction time in some areas. All area showed the higher concentration of chlorine residual than 0.2mg/l(standard). So it can be concluded that any area in Suwon city is not in biological regrowth problem. Rechlorination turned out to be an useful method for uniform concentration of free chlorine residual in distribution system. The cost of disinfectant could be saved remarkably by cutting down the initial chlorine concentration to the level which guarantees minimum concentration (0.2mg/l) throughout the distribution system.
Background: This study used receiver operating characteristic curve to analyze Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) adenosquamous carcinoma data to identify predictive models and potential disparities in outcome. Materials and Methods: This study analyzed socio-economic, staging and treatment factors available in the SEER database for adenosquamous carcinoma. For the risk modeling, each factor was fitted by a generalized linear model to predict the cause specific survival. An area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was computed. Similar strata were combined to construct the most parsimonious models. Results: A total of 20,712 patients diagnosed from 1973 to 2009 were included in this study. The mean follow up time (S.D.) was 54.2 (78.4) months. Some 2/3 of the patients were female. The mean (S.D.) age was 63 (13.8) years. SEER stage was the most predictive factor of outcome (ROC area of 0.71). 13.9% of the patients were un-staged and had risk of cause specific death of 61.3% that was higher than the 45.3% risk for the regional disease and lower than the 70.3% for metastatic disease. Sex, site, radiotherapy, and surgery had ROC areas of about 0.55-0.65. Rural residence and race contributed to socioeconomic disparity for treatment outcome. Radiotherapy was underused even with localized and regional stages when the intent was curative. This under use was most pronounced in older patients. Conclusions: Anatomic stage was predictive and useful in treatment selection. Under-staging may have contributed to poor outcome.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate and to analyze the spatial composition by block plan of the free elderly facility and to provide basic information for building up the detail architectural guidelines. The results of the study were as follows: Elderly welfare law needed to control the poor physical environments of the free elderly facility such as the residential space for more than 4 individuals. The facility of single building type should strengthen the informal support networks through the dispersion of public spaces or should encourage moving of the residents through the outdoor space, especially in rural area. On the other hand, the linking type needed to focus on the administrative spaces on the first floor for the managerial convenience, and to group and disperse the public/recreational spaces to decrease the unnecessary moving of the residents and staffs. The passageway linking building to building should directly connect each administrative space or public space so that elderly used them without any inconvenience. In the dispersion type, which is suited to rural area, the lounge, dining hall, and the place for the staff on duty should be located in the same as the residence building for the convenience and the safety of the elderly residents.
Accidents are the leading cause of death in children worldwide. The purpose of this study is to use basic data of safety education, counseling, and information available regarding accident prevention to examine the degree of mothers' accident prevention practices for their children. Data were collected from June to October, 1998 from 587 mothers including 2 University hospitals located in Seoul and Kyoungki-Do. By using the 30 item questionnaire, which was created by researchers through literature review, the degree of mothers' accident prevention practices for their children was measured. The degree of accident prevention practices of mothers shown ranged 70-118 and averaged 3.19. Compared to the composit area average score, drug keeping had the highest score of 3.57 The next highest scores and traffic safety(3.41), and supervision of child(3.30). Prevention against burning was the lowest point at 2.58. With the respect to the demographic characteristics, there were stastically significant differences in the mothers' education(F=4.291, p=.014), type of residence(F=3.979, p=.008), and child developmental age (F=5.275, p=.001). The degree of accident prevention practices of mothers were relatively high. But the area which showed the low degree of accident prevention practices, required nurses' active education, counseling, social interest and support, and mass media participation.

The aim of this study is to find out the pattern of Ger form, inner spatial composition of Mongolian Ger house, and to take a dig at the structural or symbolic elements of nomadic architecture of Ger. To the point of view of corresponding to living and space of housing, remarkable characteristics of Ger Architecture is able to pull down and recombine the structures of nomadic house. Even though urbanization of Mongolia has spreading rapidly in a whole nation, most of people preserves traditional housing pattern within Ger. The ways of survey are to study of traditional home of Mongolia, and then field work at residence or mountain area in Ulan Bator and Gorkhi Terelj National Park area. This survey contains the form, size, structure, spatial composition of living space, structure, and materials. There are three results as follows: First, the form of Ger house is like a pyramidal or crown roof style to approximate to the round shape of it. Usually they had lived in nomadic way of life, so the Ger had a movable and flexible structure. Second, the Ger is easy to build up and deconstruct to move or find a new pasture. Third, the Mongolian Ger structure is composed by mainly five elements that are Khana, Khaalga, Toono, Bagana, and Uni. It has a hierarchy of internal spaces which are classified to gender, orientation, and property.
The purpose of this study was to investigate eating habits and dormitory foodservices' satisfaction in university students using dormitory foodservice in the Jeollabuk-do Iksan area. Self-administered questionnaires were completed by 195 students (86 male, 109 female). Many students (58.5%) ate less than two meals per day and spent around 30 min eating meals. The results show that snack and midnight meals were the main reasons (37.9%) for unhealthy eating habits. Main source of nutritional knowledge and information were TV and the Internet (58.5%), followed by friends and people (25.1%), nutrition books (10.3%), elective courses (4.6%), and newspapers and magazines (1.5%). Men had significantly higher satisfaction scores for nutrition, taste, diversity of menu, as well as hygiene of dormitory food court compared to women (p<0.05). Salty taste was the most important factor in evaluation of taste satisfaction, whereas sour taste was opposite. The reason for taste dissatisfaction in the dormitory food court was not salty enough, and it may be related with their eating habits. The results show that students need education for adequate knowledge and information about the relationship between health and nutrition.
This study investigated the factors that influence child care expenses and the type of child care services used by preschool children. Data for this study was obtained from a questionnaire completed by mothers of preschool children during the spring of 2009. The data was analyzed by the following methods: $X^2$, ANOVA, multinominal logit analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study showed the significant factors that affected the types of child care services used by preschool children. These factors were the child's age, child's sex, mother's age, mother's educational level, mother's employment status, family income, type of residence, residential area, and family type. Monthly child care expenses for one child was an average of 374,000 won and it accounted for about 9 percent of their family income. The significant factors that affect child care expenses were the mother's educational level, the mother's employment status, the number of preschool children, family income, residential area, family type and the type of child care services.
Purpose: This study investigated the health literacy level of, the hypertension knowledge of, the self-management behaviors of, and the factors influencing self-management behaviors of the hypertensive elderly population residing in the urban and rural areas. Central heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) is one of the largest consumers of energy in the residential sector. This project explores the use of multiple HVAC units and/or Zoning in a single residence to reduce energy loads. The energy consumption data of a detached single-family home using two HVAC units, one primary for the main house and a secondary HVAC for a casita, was collected for the same month for two consecutive years, along with details related to the outdoor temperature and the square footage being air-conditioned by each HVAC. A regression algorithm was trained using the above details to find the relation between the parameters. Next, based on the occupancy and usage patterns, the HVAC was redesigned assuming more area under the secondary HVAC unit. The trained algorithm was then used to make energy usage predictions for the revised primary HVAC area, with the assumption that the secondary HVAC unit was turned off. The results were compared with existing energy usage data. It was determined that there were significant energy savings in the second scenario. It is expected that this study and its findings will help future research projects explore more ideas as alternatives to central HVAC, in improving the economic viability of existing options, and in developing a savings calculation tool that will help consumers make informed decisions on their best alternatives to central HVAC.
