  • The monitoring of the uniconazole residual pesticide for agricultural products was conducted by multiclass pesticide multiresidue methods. Samples were collected from June to November, 2011. Uniconazole pesticide was detected in 49 samples from a total of 3,939 samples. The amount of uniconazole pesticide ranged from 0.09 to 17.89 mg/kg in 49 samples. This method was described for the simultaneous determination of uniconazole by gas chromatography with a nitrogen phosphorus detector (GC-NPD) and mass spectrometry (MS). The limit of detection and quantification were 0.006 and 0.018 mg/kg GC-NPD, respectively. For an evaluation of the GC-NPD method, uniconazole spiked into gyeojachae at a level of 0.5, 5 mg/kg was determined. The recoveries of uniconazole by the GC-NPD method ranged from 83.4 to 101.4%. The results indicate that the method of simultaneous analysis is applicable to uniconazole analysis.

  • For the equitable and objective evaluation of the performances of R & D (Research and Development) Projects, the quantitative evaluation of research products was performed. In this research, the AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) technique was used to calculate the relative importance(weight) of research products such as patents, thesis, conferences and man-power with make up individual questions. With calculated relative weight of research products, the model that gives the quantitative grades of research products was studied.

  • The aim of this study was designed to determine the induction of rat growth hormone(rGH) by extracts of a popular herb, Glycyrrhizae radix(GR), roots of Glycyrrhiza glabra $\sub$Linne/, and Glycyrrhiza uralensis $\sub$Fischer/. In vitro study was carried out using primary rat pituitary cell culture for 3 days and then was treated with methanol extract corresponding to 1 mg of dried weight of herb per 1 $m\ell$ of culture solution. • We examined methanol extracts prepared from the Korean plants for their inhibitory effects on rat lens aldose reductase (RLAR) activity in vitro. Among 41 plant extracts, the extracts of Lagerstroemia indica, Punica granatum, Eurya japonica, Liquidambar styraciflua, and Vitis coignetiae exhibited highest inhibitory potency, even more potent than tetramethylene glutaric acid (TMG), known as one of typical aldose reductase inhibitors $(IC_{50}\;value,\;0.51\;{\mu}g/ml)$. Especially, the extract of Lagerstroemia indica (Lythraceae), exhibited the most inhibitory potency $(IC_{50}\;value,\;0.069\;{\mu}/ml)$ on RLAR.

  • A novel and efficient tetrahydrofuranyl ring opening method was developed using the highly reactive TFAT reagent in the presence of an acid scavenger, 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylpyridine. Various acid sensitive groups are compatible with the reaction condition, making it generally applicable to many tetrahydrofuranyl steroids. Moreover, it is a synthetic equivalent of 'Marker degradation' affording an efficient synthesis of C17-OH rockogenin acetate.
