  • Recently the change of social environment has influence on the living of human for the complexity and the variety. And so the relation of architecture and function required the complex space. The government tried to complex the service for healthcare and social welfare by the exhibition model for health and welfare center. In this sence, this study aims to explore the basic data for the planning of location to the community welfare center and the healthcare facility in a district by grasping the difference of level at facility among region. In sum, the useful data were collected, analyzed, and synthesized through this study and could be used in the relevant research in the future as reference informations.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this research is to find out week and strong aspects in LEED categories based on achieved scores earned by LEED-HC(Healthcare) v.2009. Methods: The LEED-HC scorecards of 88 healthcare projects are analyzed. The analysis are focused on relationship between achieved scores, LEED categories and achieved levels. This relationship was presented by graphs and charts. Results: 1) Compare to LEED-NC, in LEED-HC, sub-categories related to public health are added. The scores are added in Energy Atmosphere and Indoor Environmental Quality. 2) Achieve scores in Sustainable Site are high and one in Energy Atmosphere and Indoor Environmental Quality are low at all levels. 3) Scores which was lost in Energy Atmosphere are recovered in Material Resource and Sustainable Site in order to keep its level. 4) Since most of scores in Energy Atmosphere are under EAc1 Optimize energy performance sub-categories, it is important to achieve more score in Optimize Energy Performance Sub-Categories to gain a higher level. Even if LEED-HC has more score in Energy Atmosphere, this is a hard to achieve scores in that categories. It is important to review Energy Atmosphere categories and its points for improvement. Implications: This study will provide basic database in order to establish Korean green building rating system for hospital.

  • Purpose: The analysis of space configuration of dentistry through examining Korean dental history and comparison are necessary for the development of planning of the dental healthcare system. This study has been started in order to provide basic information for the planning of hospital architecture in dentistry. Methods: Literature review of space configuration and historical background in dentistry have been conducted. The changes of site plan and space configuration of Seoul National University, Yonsei University and Kyunghee University, School of Dentistry and Dental Hospital have been analyzed in dental history of Korea and corresponding spaces. Results: The result of this study can be summarized in three points. The first one is that space configuration of dentistry in Korea is different from that of West. The clinical treatment space had been started first and the education and research space was followed after a short interval. The second one is that the space configuration in School of Dentistry and Dental Hospital shows that dental space had differentiated and specialized to dental education and clinical space in a building. It had spatially divided and separated to the education and research complex and the dental hospital and it had a branch building. The third one is that the dental public health in Korea has not been actively applied until recently and it should be developed in a near future. Implications: It is necessary to analyze space configuration of other dental schools and their hospitals to develop the relationship between space and program in healthcare system.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the role of the physical environment in task interruptions in the healthcare settings. Many dangerous events such as airplane crash and medical errors are the result of human errors and, these errors are often the result of interruptions during a critical task of professional workers. In fact, the physical environment that determines accessibility and visibility among people affects interruptions significantly, but architectural studies have given little attention to the management of interruptions. Methods: Therefore, the researcher reviewed research literature in other fields to find out how the physical environment affected interruptions. Many studies were from management, human factors, and health care, but few from architecture. First the author examined the impact of interruptions, second described the social context of interruptions and the role of the physical environment. Results: Findings included that description of the physical environment was not very clear in studies from management and human factors, while little work had been done on interruptions in architecture. The author proposed study design that compensated shortcomings of each field by combining approaches from management, human factors, and architecture. Implications: Unit design strategies such as distributed nurse stations can affect interruptions and layout analysis such as space syntax analysis can evaluate visibility and accessibility of floor plans in the preliminary design phase.

  • Recently considerations of the location and sizes of hospitals and healthcare facilities in a region have increased in Korea. So, this study aims to explore the physical conditions of hospitals and healthcare facilities in a large scale as well as a middle scale medical service boundary. Through the analysis of existing data of the facilities, it was revealed that most of the facilities tend to concentrate in large cities. In sum, the useful data were collected, analyzed, and synthesized through this study and could be used in the relevant research in the future as reference informations.

  • Purpose: The purpose of the research is to find difficulty levels of LEED credits in each LEED level based on credits achievement in order to find important of LEED-HC credits to gain LEED-HC. Methods: The individual credits of LEED-HC v.2009 scorecards from USGBC website are analyzed. With achieved scores rate of LEED credits per each Level, all credits are reassembled in 4 different ranges (A~D); easy (A), easy-moderate (B), moderate-hard (C) and hard (D) to achieve scores. Results: 1) Achieved point rate in LEED-HC specific credits are low. These credits need to be reviewed carefully. 2) In 88 projects, 37 projects are gained Silver level which is more than projects in certification level. In order to encourage to gain LEED-HC level, Average Achieved rate to earn Certificate level needs to be risen. 3) Credits in range D rarely affect to gain platinum level. EAc1 (24 points) are critical to gain Silver and Gold level. However, EAc1 points are not effective to achieve Certificate level. Implications: This research will provide a fundamental back data to set up Korean Green building rating system for Healthcare.

  • The importance of big data analytics has become apparent with the increasing volume of data on the Internet. The amount of data will increase even more with the widespread use of Internet of Things (IoT). One of the most important application areas of the IoT is healthcare. This study introduces new real-time data analytics architecture for an IoT-based smart healthcare system, which consists of a wireless sensor network and a radio-frequency identification technology in a vertical domain. The proposed platform also includes high-performance data analytics tools, such as Kafka, Spark, MongoDB, and NodeJS, in a horizontal domain. To investigate the performance of the system developed, a diagnosis of Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome by logistic regression is discussed. The results show that the proposed IoT data analytics system can successfully process health data in real-time with an accuracy rate of 95% and it can handle large volumes of data. The developed system also communicates with a riverbed modeler using Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) to model any IoT-enabling technology. Therefore, the proposed architecture can be used as a time-saving experimental environment for any IoT-based system.

  • Space program is not only meaning of area distribution on the planning of hospital architecture. The environment of health care such as medical examination, the level of service and construction on hospital. And also space program implies the composition of space and plan of size in which are activity, required manpower and rooms, and mutual relation between spaces in hospital by quantitative analysis of the requered rooms and unit area. Accordingly space program is the data at the beginning of plan which can understand the pursuing direction of hospital at the beginning of plan. This study analyze how to express the role and function of hospital in space program by research of it in korean general hospital. Through those research, the purpose of this study is to sight the position of present hospital and produce the basic data for precise space program.

  • This study aims to examine the outdoor environment of a geriatric hospital and explore its stress-relief impact upon those who utilize it. Post Occupancy Evaluation is employed to assess the effectiveness of a healthcare setting. This study is based on survey questionnaire including the users' perception of outdoor environment, their perceived restorativeness, and quality of life. A total of one hundred and sixty individuals including patients, families and visitors, and healthcare staffs. As a result, it turns out that the therapeutic outdoor environment and its users' health outcomes, such as reststroativeness and quality of life are significantly correlated. In conclusion, the finding of this research seems to demonstrate the potential that the therapeutic outdoor environment has for the improvement of its users' health by enhancing.
