  • For a good crashworthy design of train vehicles, it is essential to develop some design and analysis techniques for energy absorbing structures. This paper analyzes the front structure of TGV-K and suggests crashworthy design of Korea high speed tram(KHST) using the accident scenario of SNCF(collision with a stationary rigid mass in motion of 15 ton at 110km/h). Specifically this research is concentrated on developing a well-designed protective headstocks using mullticell structures wi th cutouts to improve crashworthiness of KHST

  • Injection-compression molding parts are many cases with complicated boundary condition which is difficult to analysis of mold characteristics precisely. In this study, the effects of various process parameters such as multi-point gate location, initial charge volume, injection time and pressure have been investigated using finite element method to fomulate the melt front advancement during the mold filling process. A general governing equation for tracking the filling process during injection-compression molding is applied to volume of fluid method. To verify the results of present analysis, they are compared with those of the other paper. The results show a strong effect of processing conditions as a result of variations in the three-dimensional complex geometry model.

  • Discontinuous solutions or interfaces are common in nature, for examples, shock waves or material interfaces. However, their numerical computation is difficult by the feature of discontinuities. In this paper, we summarize the numerical approaches for discontinuities and interfaces appearing mostly in the system of hyperbolic conservation laws, and explain various numerical methods for them. We explain two numerical approaches to handle discontinuities in the solution: shock capturing and shock tracking, and illustrate their underlying algorithms and mathematical problems. The front tracking method is explained in details and the level set method is outlined briefly. The several applications of front tracking are illustrated, and the research issues in this field are discussed.

  • In this research, we investigated the acoustical characteristics of the front yard of Injeongjeon hall at Changdeokgung Palace, a Korean traditional building which is on record as the world curtural inheritance of UNESCO. Acoustical measurements and computer simulation were fitted in order to judge the appropriateness of musical performances in the space. The front part of the stage area, where musicians will perform, is made of a stone platform. The eaves of Injeongjeon hall is located behind the platform.

  • In the automobile development, press tool design and manufacturing are very difficult and need high cost experienced workers. Therefore, we concerned ourselves in the cost down and easy manufacturing. In this research, we have developed a tool for LH/RH of the front fender, which had difficulty in forming. We have carried out the drawing analysis by Pam-stamp and CATIA modeling. Finally, we get the optimal design parameter. As a result of try out, we found out the optimal width and margin at the center line for tool design. Also, in order to get good results we have to intaglio margin in the part of the wheel house and utilize double bead on every side except corner.

  • The knowledge of air flow in an engine room has become more and more important in recent car design. The fluid flow in the engine compartment was investigated by numerical analysis. Due to the complex geometry of the engine compartment, mesh generation is a time-consuming job. In this research, the "ICEM" code was used to generate meshes by the Cartesian mesh model. The Reynolds-averaged Navier Stokes equations, together with the porous flow model for radiator and condenser, were solved. Computation was performed for the steady, incompressible, and high speed viscous flow, adopting the standard K-ε turbulence model. The "STAR-CD" code was used as a solver. The effect of car front openning area on the flow in engine room was also investigated.

  • Potential vorticity is useful to illustrate mechanism and distribution pattern of current circulation the upper layer in the East Sea is divided into three part following like surface layer, Tsushima Warm Current(TWC) layer. Potential vorticity shows well the meandering of the TWC and polar front and circulation cell ill the northern part of polar front.

  • Frontal regions in midlatitude storms exhibit a wide range of behavior, which can be observed by remote sensors. These include decay, strengthening, rotating, and sometimes spawning of new cyclones. Here we refine and apply recent theories of front and frontal wave development to a case of a front clearly observed and analyzed in remote sensing data. By applying innovative analysis techniques to the data we assess the respective roles of ageostrophy, background deformation, and Boundary Layer processes in determining the evolution of the surface front. Our analysis comprises of diagnosis of the terms appearing in the vorticity and divergence equations using remotely sensed observations.

  • The purpose of this study is to research the proportion of plans and elevations in traditional architecture for period of Joseon. The collected data of traditional buildings are analyzed for the basic design methods; horizontal factors and vertical factors for floor plans and front elevations. The results of the analysis on this study are as follows. Proportion data of floor plans in traditional architecture is from 1 : 3.8 to 1 : 1.21. Proportion data of front elevations in traditional architecture is from 1 : 8.1 to 1 : 1.03. Average proportion of floor plans in traditional architecture is 1.87. Average proportion of front elevations in traditional architecture is 2.59.
